  1. I was there that night, and it's still one of my favorite shows too.

I met up with a couple of boardies before that show but I have no idea if they are still around. One was local and a taper here in AZ and the other came with his lady from Texas. We had pre show drinks at a place called Rula Bula on Mill Ave. It was really cool. The show absolutley blew me away. Amazing energy and Jeff was in a playful mood that night, I think new to sobriety at that point?

  2. I would assume there is a similar thred somewhere but for the life of me I couldn't find it. I hope this post doesn't annoy anyone. I would love to hear what others think who have been following the band for some time. How many shows, favorite set lists and stuff like that. Here's what I got.

This will be a long and fun post.

With SolidSound Festival just a week away, I decided to get geeky with Wilco and count up how many times I have seen them as well as Jeff Tweedy solo. I was going to rank all the shows but i'll spare you that and just post 2 setlists from my 2 favorite Wilco shows. First, the shows. I have seen Wilco exactly 10 times and Jeff Tweedy solo twice.

Here are the set lists from my two favorite Wilco shows. These two were both incredible experiences. The first show had Calexico as an opener and I wasn't a big fan of Calexico yet but loved Feast of Wire, what a perfect opener they were and later they joined Wilco on stage for encores with their horn section and they complimented the songs beautifully. The other show was night one of their 5 night winter residency where they played every single song they have ever recorded and then a bunch of b-sides, rarities, uncle tupelo songs etc. Here's the set lists.

  3. I would expect closer to 4 or 5K attendees. Good post Wilco Me. This is going to be intimate and a lot of fun. I agree that they were expecting a whole lot more as well. I'm excited I was able to pull this off and started listening to Wilco again this week. (I take long breaks because between listening so I ensure longetivity in my rotation lol).

Here's hoping they open with Misunderstood and finish with something like Outtasite with some Candy Floss tossed in for fun.

I just added it up. I've seen Wilco 10 times, the first being in 2003 and the last at Red Rocks last year unless we count Tweedy solo who I saw in December and at Lollapalooza as well which would make the grand total 12. I did not see the band at all in 2006 or 2007.

  4. I just started listening to The Books - The Way out. This is the band from N. Adams and man this album is quite good. It's experimental and they use many sound bytes and the music backs it and sounds avant guarde and that can be a turn off but i'm really enjoying it. I suggest you all give it a listen if you get a chance. I'm looking forward to their performance.

  5. Since I started this poll, I thought I'd mention that I'm coming from Norfolk, Virginia. I'll be rooming with someone I met on this board who lives in Ohio (she's already responded to the poll) and we'll be staying at the Willows Motel in Williamstown. We're flying in to Boston early Friday morning, renting a car for the weekend and returning to Boston early Monday morning. In case it's not already wildly apparent, I am WAY excited about this--less than 3 weeks away!

We're up to 38 responses now, which probably translates to 60-70 actual people. Anybody got any bright ideas about how VCers can be on the lookout for each other? I know some of you know each other already, so maybe this will all happen naturally. But most of us don't know each other in real life, so I was thinking we could come up with some VC identity "badge" that we could print out and wear. Is that too corny? :rolleyes Or barf-worthy? :throwup Or maybe a decent idea??:blush (Yes, I'm having fun with emoticons today--looking for an opportunity to use this one. :jerkit

    Thoughts, anybody?

I'm the last person to care about corny. Name tag stickers with board names always seem to work. Simple too, you just need a sharpie and a package of stickers. Maybe some sort of meeting place as well on Saturday by some exhibit?

  6. I am beyond ready. It's what I'm living for! I just hope my friends, family and co-workers can put up with me for the next month. I do kinda wonder what new obsession will overtake me once the festival is over, though.

    I recommend The National. :)

  7. I can't believe people are bitching about this. Wilco and the other members bands are playing, Mavis Staples and a whole bunch of other cools stuff. This isn't a residency, it ia a fest that Wilco is helping to curate. How cool is that??

It's beyond cool, in fact it's effing awesome! That doesn't change the fact that they announced 2 headlining performances by the band and then put tickets on sale only to later announce it was only 1 full band performance and 1 Tweedy performance. I get it, things change but what kind of fan wants to settle for less Wilco that was originally promised? Especially when this isn't a huge Lollapalooza type festival with 130 + bands to make up for the glaring omission. What if Radiohead announced they would be headlining a 2 day Red Rocks music festival with a handful of other bands and art and then decided well after tickets had gone on sale that night two was no longer going to be Radiohead, but Thom Yorke solo. Some people are going to be a bit disappointed. That's all we are saying.

  8. I am not dissatisfied but I am disappointed just a tiny bit that the "feature" of the festival (their words, not mine) has been reduced to one performance. It was a bad idea to say two headline performances, then sell tickets for a month or so and follow it up with a final schedule that only has one performance by the band. I'm super excited about seeing Jeff solo again though and there is plenty of other stuff to do so it's almost silly to even use the word disappointed. I'm still excited about the set but come on who wouldn't rather have 2 performances? We all would and they advertised it as such.

  9. I'm really excited for this festival again despite the change from the original announcement in the first post of this thread.

With a vibrant roster of musical performances, sound sculpture, comedy, demonstrations and more curated by Chicago-based band Wilco, the Solid Sound Festival will unfold over three days at MASS MoCA's factory campus in the Berkshires on August 13-15, 2010. This festival will feature two headline performances by Wilco, plus individual performances by all the Wilco members' side projects including: Glenn Kotche's On Fillmore, The Nels Cline Singers, The Autumn Defense featuring John Stirratt and Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen's Pronto. Festival is outdoors, rain or shine.

I mean, it's kinda hard not to be disappointed by this. Tweedy solo kinda makes up for it but still...you know.

  10. Faxman, I know you were trying to sell your ticket due to some problems. Hope you didn't do it yet, because as cool as that Lollapalooza set might've been, I suspect that a grownup solo set will be even better. And for their very own festival, with everyone there "superfans"? Holy shit, just imagine being able to feed off all that crowd love.

I didn't sell my ticket yet :) and I was lucky enough to live in the same state as Jeff's sister so he played a solo acoustic show in Phoenix last December that I was able to attend. It was fantastic. I'm really excited about SolidSound. Now I just have to pull off airfare.

  11. I hate to do this as well. I was planning and meeting up with another board member but this all fell apart on me a few days ago. $80 each or $155 for the pair. They are hard tickets and I have them in hand already so they are ready to ship.

My loss is your gain apparently as this is going to be one hell of an intimate and unique weekend.

  12. Well, my world has sort of collapsed. I had a major car issue and i will no longer be able to attend this wonderful event. It kills me. I do however have 2 tickets to this festival for sale. I will sell them for $80 each which should save people service fees plus a few dollars off of face value. If anyone is interested PM me. These are obviously hard tickets and in hand. We can do paypal or whatever you are comfortable with. I'm really disapointed i'm going to have to miss this show. :(

  13. Love this band to death. I'm in Phoenix and i'll be driving to L.A. for night two of their weekend at The Wiltern. I saw them there last year as well. I'm also looking forward to their Sasquatch set as their Sasquatch 2008 set was one of the most incredible performances I have seen them give. I definitely have an obsession with them at this point.

This Saturday night they are streaming a benefit from NY live on youtube though maybe someone has already mentioned it in this thread. Favorites from the new album.

Brilliant album. I'm gay for all of Matt's writing.

  14. i have never seen anything but a Saturday night Wilco show announced. Most of their shows are two sets anyway. The opening set and the encores. When you play three hours, thats two sets. Even if you only break for a short time.

I can't believe anyone will NOT get their fix of wilco over that weekend.

No, not sets, two headline peformances! I remember where I read it now.. very first post of this thread lol.

So I guess we need to find out if we are still getting two!

  15. I think the "cheezy" remarks are kind of funny, considering ITMWLY sounds way cheesier in my opinion - not to mention "Reservations," (who didn't hear that the first time and finish the line before hearing it?) "I've got reservations about so many things / but not about you" is easily the cheesiest phrase on the album to me. Consequently, "Reservations" is also my least favorite track. HMD is about being a kid, doing things that kids do, and missing that innocence. I can dig that. The self-pitying vibe of "Reservations"? Jeff has done self-pitying much, much better in other songs.

I absolutley love Reservations. I was so happy to hear it get played in Tucson last year. I'll take Heavy Metal Drummer as well, great rock song. Kamera is probably my least favorite.

It's interesting that these two songs were both mentioned. Reservations and HMD are the only two tracks on the album that Jay Bennett didn't help write.

  16. FYI I talked to someone at Windsor Lake campground yesterday to make sure they recieved my deposit and had the right dates. She informed they still had spots open! This is the campground closest to the venue. She expects a sell out soon but they do still have spaces available. It's $26 a night and walking distance to the venue. A steep walk on the way back but still doable.

  17. Offical from Wilco HQ. I'm a bit concerned as now it states only one Wilco set? Should we still expect two?

Today we're announcing the first of several lineup additions to Wilco's Solid Sound Festival at Mass MoCA (in North Adams, MA) August 13-15. The full announcement is here, but the gist is we've added the following artists to the bill:

    Avi Buffalo (Long Beach, CA)

    Sir Richard Bishop (Seattle, WA)

    Vetiver (San Francisco, CA)

    Mountain Man (Bennington, VT)

    Brenda (Portland, ME)

    The Books (North Adams, MA)

Deep Blue Organ Trio (Chicago, IL)

We've also scheduled the Bread and Puppet Theater (Glover, VT) and Story Pirates (NYC). This on top of the previously announced Wilco headline set (Saturday evening) and sets by The Nels Cline Singers, On Fillmore, The Autumn Defense, and Pronto. Expect more announcements in the coming weeks. But as you can see, the festival is beginning to take shape. Tickets are on sale now. You should note that capacity for this event will be limited to 8,000 for the entire weekend and that this is one of only 3 North American performances by Wilco this summer. So act soon. Remember, early bird pricing is available only through May 31. Having just returned from a visit to the museum... we here at HQ couldn't be more psyched about both the programming and the location. The spaces and the exhibits are stunning and August in the Berkshires is really about as good as it gets. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for confirmation of more bands, comedy, films, etc. as things "solidify" at Solid Sound.

    Peace & warm breezes,

    the HQ staff
