  1. Pitchfork will rate it 6.1. Slightly better than SBS but still not enough YHF & too much dad rock to deserve higher ratings. :(

Oh who cares what Pitchfork thinks. Half of the records on their best new music section sound like they were recorded on a my first Sony. They have become nothing more then an aging website obsessed with trying to sound relevant to the younger generation. They much more concerned with the scene that an album is geared too then the music itself. Is calling something Dad rock an insult if you are old enough to be a dad? Do Pitchfork writers not age, or do they kicked out the door the minute they grow pubic hair?

Sky Blue Sky (5.0?) and Ghost is Born (6.0?) are still some of the best records of the decade regardelss if PM says they are "relevant" or not.

  2. That's only so we know which extras to pre-order, and how long we can listen to the album before we actually receive our pre-ordered order.

Seriously, there are only two bands that I will blind buy these days. Wilco and Radiohead. Still, it is so wrong to want to hear the album as soon as possible? There is a good chance I will still buy the LP/CD/Tote bag even if I dislike the album LOL.

  3. I can't think of anything I was hoping for less from this album. :lol

Folks who heard this at our basement show were much in agreement on the George Harrison vibe. And for some of the folks there, there could be no greater compliment. :yes

:wub I wanted to hear this album again, immediately! I can't wait for a chance to leave it on repeat for a few days.

So...it seems like a slightly more experimental Sky BLue Sky? Excellent sign me up...!!

  4. This is one of my most highly anticipated releases of my life.

I am so suprised that we have heard not 1 second of a clip and no indication of the art concept of the album or anything.

    I need something.

great expectations only lead to bigger disappointments my friend. Im sure the album will be good, but don't expect it to heal your wounds.

  5. "I dreamed about suing Jeff again last night..."

"and it felt alright to me"

No Money in The Bank for my hip replacement

and My Dreadlocks smell like pee

I realize that this is all a media display

but I need to get paid.

I'll sue the band for very little

    and hope that we settle

  6. Umm, are you looking at different comments than I am?

I dont' think so. Calling him a pretentious asshole, and then mentioning that the ONLY reason YHF is good was becasue of Bennett, and that he is the reason Summerteeth is their best record..doesn't come off as kind in my eyes.

  7. Jeff's response is on Paste.

"I know exactly as much as everyone else does. I've read the news and I honestly have no idea what these claims are based on. It was such a long time ago. Aside from everything else, I'm being sued for not paying someone for appearing in a movie I didn't produce. Go figure. I am truly sad it has come to this. I am equally convinced, however, that I have done nothing wrong and that this will be handled fairly and swiftly."

  8. Thanks for answering my questions.

Opinions and speculation generally should be based on something (besides liking one guy better than another).

I didn't call your opinions irrelevant, I only suggested that the facts that Jeff did not personally write the DVD contract, and that Jeff is not stealing checks intended for Jay, are irrelevant to both Jay's lawsuit and this discussion.

OK, now I know you are a lunatic. Thanks for proving it once again.

My opinions and speculation are based on pretty simple business contract law. If you are making a work that will be bringing in money then you usually sign some sort of contract. Jeff does not pay the band, his management company arranges that. I don't see how anything I said was irrelevant to the lawsuit or the discussion when it's directly related to the speculation on both the lawsuit and the discussion. Get off the high horse. Im not one of the posters making fun of Jay's hair or hip replacement.

I will re state my opinions in moron speak for you...

    1. 50,000 is not a lot of money for a band as big as Wilco

    2. If anyone is getting money from the film/record album a contract of some sort must have been signed. Unless they are complete idiots (but I am willing to bet they are not).

    3. This will probably be settled for a lower sum due to the cost of a trial.

    OMG SO IRRELEVANT!!

I forgot to mention Jay's hair smells and he has a bad hip..OMG he sucks SO much.

    retards...

  9. Actually, I think he let about four sentences go. But his on-base percentage is good.

I was just spouting opinion, just like the rest of you. No reason to attack my opinion and call it "irrelevant"

If that were the case then the entire thread should be closed with the heading.."No Speculation Allowed"

I don't think any of us know what EXACTLY happened, so arguing over someone's thoughts on it seems "irrelevant"

  10. How do you know this?

    Probably true, but irrelevant.

Also true, but how do you know that Jay did sign off somewhere?

Maybe he thinks he farts cotton candy.

    How do you know this?

    Also probably true, but irrelevant.

Thanks for attacking every sentence of my post. It doesn't make you look like a lunatic or anything.

  11. This.

$50,000? Wilco probably makes that within a show or two. I can't imagine this is really going to hurt the band financially. If anything it will just further burn the bridge between Jay and the band. Still I don't see how any of this is Jeff's fault. I am positive he didn't personally write the contract on the DVD sales. Im also pretty positive that Jay would have had to sign off somewhere to appear in the film. Maybe he thinks the new Blu-Ray release entitles him to a new deal? Jeff's name shouldn't even be on the suit. I doubt Jeff is stealing Jay's checks and stuffing them under his mattress.

It will probably be more expensive to go to court over this then to spend the $50,000. Pretty good chance they will settle for something lower. It's messed up, but that's how are system works. It's always cheaper to give up then to fight.

  12. I never thought I'd say this about a Wilco song, but I really do not like this one :(

Well its not like Wilco wrote this. A lot of Guthries songs were simple folk fables, they aren't meant to overwhlem you musically. They are meant to repeat a message, and in this case I believe it succeeds.

  13. In Chinatown, Go to Phoenix for some Dim Sum. There maybe lines, so early lunch or brunch is recommended.

Ive read a lot of mixed reviews of Phoenix. The Reader recommended another place, that seems to be a little less traditional (no carts) but has better service/food. Although Phoenix was the "readers choice"

I do definitely want Dim Sum though, as the last(first) time I had it was visiting in New York, and it was one of the most memorable things we experienced.

    Any other suggestions?

Is there a Wilco tour like Athens has a REM tour?

    Just curious.

PS - sorry this is in the wrong forum..

  14. Hi, going to visit Chicago April 23-27th.

Got a few things planned already. Going to visit the Art Institute, Contemp. Art, Hancock Tower, China Town

Wanted to know of some good friendly bars. Will probably want to hit a few blues bars, and jazz clubs as well.

Any suggestions on places to eat, drink, or see live muisc.

Also going to see M.Ward at the Vic Theatre (didn't Tweedy play a bunch of solo gigs here?) on Sunday.

Really looking forward to it, never been to Chicago

BONUS: I unkowningly booked a hotel (The Amalfi on West Kinzie) that overlooks the Marina Buildings AKA Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Cover..how cool is that? Must have been fate.

  15. man, didn't realize there was so much hate for K/T.

I think its a fantastic live album. wish there was a bit more banter, but the sound is spot on and the performances are great. i think jeff's nervousness or whatever you feel it is, maybe that was just his demeanor at the time.

it sounds alright, but the actual performances seem to missing something to me. After seeing them live I was extremely disappointed that KT didn't remind me of any of their live performances. There is almost no excitement.

  16. The audio is nowhere near as good as K/T though...

seems like Jeff's voice and acoustic guitar are up WAY too high in some of the songs, to me at least.

The Kicking Television CD sounded impersonal and nervous. Ive seen Wilco live multiple times, and their shows are nothing like that.

It's almost like Jeff knew the show was going to be used for the album, and tires too hard to make the band sound perfect. It results in a soulless group of songs. It my least favorite thing the band has ever done. I can see why they decided NOT to release it on DVD.
