  1. I got the Ashes movie audio downloads, but not the full DC concert. I was able to log back in and select the concert specifically, but I can't get it to download. Anyone else having any luck?

The first time i tried to download the DC show it stopped short and gave me an error. The second time worked though.

The DC show is 28 tracks..and it sounds great. The show has a great mix of all their albums. Its worth the price of the DVD alone. It's a shame it will only be up for a week (April 28th). Wilco fans..act quickly.

This totally makes up for the crappy Kicking Television set..

  2. So... I'm sure this may have been discussed, but I'm really curious and couldn't find anything. What was the deal with the scene at the very end with Jeff and his dad? I am a relative newcomer to the Wilco scene, so maybe I don't know about their relationship. I first saw Wilco on Austin City Limits when they were pimping AGIB in 2004.

Anyhow, the scene seamed like Jeff and his dad have a very interesting relationship. I thought it was odd that they threw that in there at the end and their interactions were so awkward. Any thoughts or insights?

watched it last night. Fantastic. The sound mix is incredible.

not sure the point of having his father there, but it's easy to see how awkward their relationship is. Jeff might be a brilliant musician, but he is socially inept.

  3. Okay.

You've followed me over into another thread to continue something which was finished yesterday. We don't need to have this discussion in two separate threads in which people genuinely want to discuss the new album. It's distracting and unnecessary. If you have something more to say to me, send me a PM.

no thanks, I'm fine with agreeing to disagree.

    Really?

hmm I thought your post would be worst.record.ever

or maybe the f word three times. I'm glad you haven't given up on it. I think it's one the best Wilco records yet. It's like the anti-being there. I've played it for several people and everyone I know seems to love it just as much as I do.

  5. From this discussion it's clear to me that people who don't like the album just haven't listened to it enough or are too cynical. Furthermore, people who like the album are simply fooling themselves into liking anything Wilco puts out, no matter how bad it is.

hmm... so now we can't like it or hate it? I'll admit that I was instantly in love with the album the minute I heard it. Something I can't say for Ghost is Born, which took me a few listens to fully appreciate. Of course, this isn't nearly as complex as that record. So I find it much easier to like/dislike.

  6. Ha.

I'm done with the shenanigans. I'm sincerely happy for you that you love the album, and that it moves you. It doesn't move me much at this point, and may not ever. AND THAT'S OKAY.

    I like you.

agreed, thank you for actually responding like an adult.

  7. I once walked 15 miles in the snow to see Jeff Tweedy play in a hammock. But the show got cancelled because Jeff couldn't stop getting tangled in the hammock and he fell out. It was rough on everyone.

LIAR!! it doesn't snow in S.Florida. I should know, I live in Boca.

There is a big difference between saying you dislike something and saying "it sucks, and fuck all those who disagree with me"

No need to scream so much. The negativity on this board is tremendous.

  8. Exactly.

    I think this record sucks.

I'm entitled to this opinion, and it's kind of irritating that the Church of Tweedy doesn't want any dissenting opinions.

I'm not saying it sucks to piss people off. I'm really sad that the record does nothing for me, that I waited three years for something sub-Wilco.

And that's my right to feel that way, and to express that opinion.

    :cheers

::vomits:: ugh...too hung over for a drink.

    :lol

nothing wrong with disliking the record, but acting like a complete tool doesn't really make me care about your opinion. This is a Wilco message board, it's pretty obvious you have entered the Church of Tweedy. I love him, no denial here.

  9. See, what you're doing there is you're saying that if you don't like the record, there's something wrong with you. Fuck you.

judging by that response, I would say that is pretty safe to assume. Go take a cold shower or something. How old are you?

  10. Jeff at the Wilco show in Miami in 04 the same night Jimmy BUffet was playing in the arena: "Come on, people. You can get up and dance. It's not a fucking Jimmy Buffet show"

ha ha I was there. I ran up front too.

  11. I'll be honest.

    I can't like this record.

I really kind of hate it.

I just feel so dissapointed. Every Wilco album post-A.M. was a top album of the year for me. Wilco 1996-2004 meant the same thing to me as the great album runs of R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, etc. Every album they did (including the firs Mermaid Avenue) in this period was on my top 10 list for the end of the year.

This is just...so below Wilco to my ears. There's not a song on this record that I'd say is as good as anything on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or Summer Teeth.

Past Wilco records have evoked great artists like The Beatles, The Stones, Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, The Band, Television, & The Replacements.

This record evokes Seals and Croft, Loggins and Messina, The Doobie Brothers, Yes, and Foreigner.

Which is fine if you like the above bands; but I don't.

Wilco taught me to get into a lot of music that I wasn't necessarily into before hand. Wilco got me into Country. Wilco got me into the avante garde. But I'll be damned if Wilco is going to get me into hammock rock music with this album.

I don't know, I think it reminds me more of Neil Young then 70's cheese folk. It's a bit simplistic for a Wilco record, but i'm cool with the mellow vibe. My favorite wilco songs have always been the slower ones. I could see why people would be disappointed if they were expecting a louder record.

  12. Because you don't like it just because Jeff Tweedy had a hand in making it? Because you like the music for its merits, not its pedigree?

calm down, there are plenty of us that are inspired by not only the music but the lyrics and the voice. The album may not be as experimental or as big as Yankee/Ghost, but it's still filled with what makes Wilco so great.

    Heart.

I couldn't think of a better album to listen too while I had breakfest and enjoyed my coffee this morning. There is plenty of love on this record, but cynical ears will most likely refuse to hear it. another solid record from one of my favorite bands.

  13. Boy Pitchfork is gonna hate this album :D.

Pitchfork gave GIB a 6.0 so their opinion is not valid when it comes to reviewing Wilco records. This is a smaller and quieter record their the recent stuff, but the songwriting and music is still topnotch. If you are a Tweedy head, I'm not sure why you wouldn't love it. Expectations too high?
