  1. I just got an email saying LivePhish.com will be giving away free mp3 downloads of all three shows!

Yup was just coming in here to post that. More info:

Free Live Phish MP3 Downloads of Hampton Shows!

Says Trey Anastasio, "We really wanted to show our gratitude to all the Phish fans for their support and the overwhelming response they've had to these shows. It's going to be an amazing celebration and we only wish everybody could be there," Phish will be recording the Hampton shows in a mobile multitrack studio, and mixing the shows overnight for immediate delivery on LivePhish.com. 256kbps MP3s will be available for free download for a limited time. FLACs and CDs are also available.

  2. The night that all went down in Morrison, no one had any idea what was going on. The next night, after the third show, I was hanging with the band and suggested, when they said they would never be allowed back at Red Rocks, that they should play Col. Forbin's. Since Red Rocks is essentially built into the side of a mountain, I felt it would be appropriate. They agreed and played it. My claim to fame.

  3. Worse. Government dependency.

I know this is a joke (sorta), but this is what I was referring to (sorta) in my earlier post in this thread.

The problem is people are downright dogmatic about the political and economic philosophies they subscribe to. It is like the worst of the worst Yankees fan vs. the worst of the worst Red Sox fan. Rush is one of the worst offenders and worse yet he rallies people to act the same way (damn, that's a lot of worse and worsts). Not to say there aren't offenders on the left as well. Shouldn't we all want what works? If that is nationalized banks then so be it. I am generally pretty fiscally conservative, sot he notion rankles me a bit. But I'm not going to dismiss it out of hand because it might mean MY philosophies aren't the right ones. Who knows what the one true philosophy is... except Unitarian. If that's the one true religion I'll eat my hat.

I, if life existed in a vacuum, would probably be Libertarian. Such as life is -- i.e., not in a vacuum -- I probably most closely align my political beliefs with Lincoln. It sucks to simplify something to such a degree (this is the Internet) but I find a particularly salient idea of Lincoln's to be (probably paraphrased), "that government should do for people only what they cannot do for themselves." The problem is that as our country grows, so too does the list of things that the people cannot do for themselves. Hell, even the Una-Bomber used government maintained roads to get to the government run Post Office to send his packages through the government-run postal service. My point is government dependency is a fact of life. The question we must ask ourselves is to what degree can we do things ourselves. I, personally, found the financial institution bailout, while distasteful to me, necessary as no other institution could come to its rescue and it was simply NEEDED for credit (which we have become all-too-dependent-on) to continue to flow. Anyway, I will say once again that we need to throw away our dogmatic views and look at what works and what is needed. Are there going to be issues? Of course, people will abuse the system -- they always do -- but we must ask ourselves if that distastefulness is enough to cause us to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't post to political threads after a DIPA. :lol

  4. I'm not into comics at all and rarely like comic book movies much (Dark Knight and Iron Man were two of the best, but barely get "B" ratings from me), yet I have a strange desire to see Watchmen. So the question for you Watchmen fans is: should I go in totally cold or should I read the book first?

  5. Is there a list of how each song is rated, where thereby I can make a determination if it's over- or under-rated?

Spot on! This is actually a pet peeve of mine. Music is, to me, the ultimate in subjectivity. If someone loves a song, how can it be overrated t them. There is no objective measure of how a song SHOULD be rated in the first place. I may disagree with YOUR opinion of a song, but that doesn't mean I am MORE right than you. You know what is overrated... music criticism.

  7. I'm pretty sure my vinyl that i had in HS was just that without the little Grateful Dead Europe '72 badge on it. The rainbow-haired dude shoving an ice cream cone into his forehead was on the inside I believe. But man, that's going back 20 years, so i could be wrong.

More than a dozen Phish fans were outraged Thursday when an online ticket broker with ties to Telluride told them he couldn

  9. I have one thing I would buy a Kindle for, but it is curiously not available: guide books. The device is obviously best for travelers and it makes a ton of sense to have guide books such as Lonely Planet available, but they are not. :(

  10. Wow! looks awesome. I loved Australia make sure you hit up Tasmania...I thought that was incredible. Japan and Israel were also worth it. If you go to Argentina and are near Buenos Aires go to El Tigre...take lots of pictures! Enjoy yourself! :thumbup

Yeah there are many places we may hit up if we can find a cheap way to do it and Japan is one of them. For this trip the plan is travel very cost-effectively. We will have no States-side expenses and I have a side business that requires very little care and feeding that brings in enough money that we will be able to do this trip and come back with more money than when we left. But ONLY if we avoid the more expensive destinations. For example, I talked about wanting to go tot he Galapagos while we are in Ecuador but, if we do, we'll have to find something WAY cheaper than what is advertised.

  11. WOW! CONGRATS TOO! That's alot to look forward to! Seeing a show at Red Rocks is def on my to do list. Also wow seriously an year long around the world honeymoon! I am very jealous!? Where do you plan on going? Let me know if you need pointers! I have been to 6 continents and about 40 or so countries!

We've got a long list of potential places to visit, but we'll play it by ear mostly, going wherever we the desire to go within each major region. Here is our tentative itinerary as far as major regions go though:

    October 12-December 21: Northern S. America (9 weeks)

    December 21-February 15: Southern S. America (9 weeks)

    February 15-March 22: Australia (5 weeks)

    March 22-May 3: New Zealand (6 weeks)

    May 3-August 9: SE Asia (16 weeks)

    August 9-September 20: Southern Africa (6 weeks)

    September 20-October 25: Northern Africa (5 weeks)

  12. So Eloise had a quite a long list of planes that would be flying through the "window" but the Guam flight was the one they needed to be on, right? I'm assuming all planes that fly through the window don't crash, so was it just the fact that Jack et al were on the plane that made it crash?
