  1. I revived this thread because I finally got a copy of this and I'm just not gettin' into it.

    I feel like:

I've been trying since the day it came out (or before, since I probably downloaded a leak). It's not that I don't like it. I just end up wanting to hear something else by the time it gets near the end.

    and

...I haven't connected with it. Perhaps it's just not my thing. I'll give it a few more listens.

    Hopefully soon I' feel like:

i changed my mind about MPP being too long.

i had a long drive the other day and didn't feel anything should be cut after that.

    and

I think I have changed my mind too. I retract my prior statement. Something clicked between listens 5 and 6.

I Love Strawberry Jam. It's one of my favorite albums, so I was pretty excited to get this, especially with all the hype.

I'll keep trying but I also got Akron/Family, Cotton Jones, and Midlake. All three I'm REALLY digging.

Maybe I'll come back to it.

  2. Seems like I hear it daily on "The Specturm" (forget which number; forty something). I heard Wilco (The Song) on Srius XM U, once (great station, BTW).

    Cool, Thanks!

Yeah I listen to Sirius XM U sometimes, but I haven't had my Satellite hooked up for a couple of weeks.

Reminds me, I heard the studio version of ITMWLY on Jam On. Kinda weird, 'cause I don't consider Wilco a Jam band, and it wasn't a live version. :brow

  3. Who are you crappin?

Ha! Yeah right...wishful thinking, and a little idol worship. If they were not trying to sell the album, they wouldn't be doing late night or a shitload of interviews and Nonesuch would not be buying up ad space. They call it the "album promo tour" for a reason. Remember, this is the band who sold the rights to nearly every song on "Sky Blue Sky" to Volkswagon in order to sell more records. And there is nothing wrong with trying to be successful, as long as your not creating music for the sheer purpose of sales. Its the nature of the business, as they say.

    Let me clarify.

I know they are trying to sell records.

I know they are trying to promote the album.

But at this point in the Wilco career, are they still looking for that "breakout hit" that's going to help them "make it!"?

That's all I was trying to (un-eloquently) say. :cheers

  4. XM Radio is playing the heck out of You Never Know.

What station? I have Sirius, but they're both the same company now and have combined a lot of their stations.

I don't listen to the radio for music much(except satellite)but I imagine 94.9 is probably playing something.

It was either 94.9 or Halloran's previous channel 92.1 that first introduced me to Wilco via "California Stars" that they played a lot!

edit: These are in San Diego...

  5. Everyone seems pretty convinced that they are going to play the single but, why?

Do you think Wilco is really feeling any pressure from their record company to try and boost album sales by promoting their single?

I'm sure it gets mentioned, but I think they have kind of earned the right to play whatever the hell they want!

I just don't see Nonesuch execs or Tony M. sitting down and saying "Look, we gotta promote this baby! Go out and sell it kid! We gotta sell records!"

That being said, I think they're gonna play YNK. :P

  6. The logic behind whether or not they should be distributed really doesn't matter.

Ok. I read the whole thread... :punch

The logic doesn't matter, Jeff said no. So the answer is no.

But discussing the logic is entertaining and fun, so I shall continue.

The point is made that people saved up, bid on an auction and spent a lot of money to enjoy a private show in the comfort of their own home with 30 of their closest friends.

THAT is the reward! You got to spend an evening listening to the music you love, performed by the man who made it in a very intimate setting.

To say that anyone else getting a recording of and listening to this event, somehow diminishes that experience IS elitist and therefore should not be surprised by jealousy and covetousness.

    That being said,

Jeff wants them to be private...then that's how it should be.

  7. Well, I've been wanting to add something to my nearly defunct/attempting a revival website.

I have a Music page that I have never added anything to.

This and the fact that I have been wanting to work on writing more.

And I love listening to/playing music.

And the comments so far(I haven't read any of the reviews, I'd rather start with my own opinion).

I'd like to give it a shot!

It must be known that I am usually too busy to do anything that I really want to do, because of family/work responsibilities.

But I will get to it eventually.

With that winning bit of self-promotion, let me know if you'd like me to give it a listen. ;)

  8.

One of my favorite prog bands that hasn't been mentioned yet on this thread is Soft Machine.

Reading through this thread I was thinking of two bands that may or may not fit in this category.

1.) Hawkwind (influenced by the metal thread mentioning Motorhead)

    and

    2.) Soft Machine

So Hawkwind may be considered more Metal? and Soft Machine more Jazz or fusion?

In any case, both were pretty influential in the genre.
