  1. I was in the middle of class at The Berklee College of Music in Boston.. A teacher came out and said that we were under attack.. I instantly went home to find my (at the time girlfriend, now wife) crying in front of the TV.. And then we started seeing images of the hotel where the hijackers stayed. I remeber saying "hey, thats right down the street".. I could literally see it from my front window.. My parents were calling all day and telling me to stay home and away from the Subways etc.. It was scary being in downtown Boston.. I can't imagine what it was like being in downtown NYC.

  2. I would have to agree with SarahC about the Chastain show, the rain adds some magic to that one. My favorite recording though would have to be Charlotte. The sound is so clear and amazing. You can hear things, small details, that I haven't heard on any other recording. Listen closely to the in-between when Jeff is talking. You'll be pleasantly surprised. and that show opens with a beautiful version of Sunken Treasure. Highly recommend it. :thumbup

I agree.. The best sounding AUD-recording I have ever heard.. It definitely has that "like you are really there" feeling to it.. It's great that I can re-live that concert over and over..

  3. It's not as gross as all of that. She's perfectly cute and clean 99% of the time. I've seen other 2 yr-olds behave much more ickily. Because the runny nose thing is a new problem, we haven't had the opportunity to discuss it with her until recently...we're working on it. Why do kids do that stuff anyway? I know they don't understand the full spectrum of hygiene practices until they are taught what to do but what's the deal with kids thinking the grossest possible solutions are appropriate until we tell them otherwise?

If I shared some of the gross things my kids have done, I would probably be banned from VC.. Kids are just nasty little beasts from age 1-4.

  4. I'm not in a big hurry for a new Wilco album.. I feel like SBS hasn't soaked in 100% yet for me. I always like it how in between Wilco albums, Jeff will do his solo shows.. I still haven't had a chance to catch one of those yet, but would love to.. And a Jeff solo live album would be awesome.

  5. I shouldve mentioned in my earlier post that I have a clark (boutique Fender Copy www.clarkamplification.com) Deluxe amp, and it has a laquered tweed finish. I play in bars several times a week, and I dont have an amp case or cover. It has some scuffing along the sides and the bottom, but the tweed has held up really well. There is no fraying, and the amp has supported many sweating pint glasses (and a few spills!!!) with no problem, the liquids brush right off. I think the process makes the road rash/bar tan that your amp will develop look cooler too, because every non-laquered one I have seen looks fuzzy because the tweed frays. The laquer keeps the tweed together better.

Yeah, I'm looking into a laquer now.. Time to make a trip to Home Depot.

  6. Well, I have had a few weeks to listen to Ryan Adams. My first purchase was Heartbreaker. I listened to the first song and I was like "this rocks!", but then the songs started to really mellow out and it pretty much does that for the rest of the album. Don't get me wrong, every song is very good and has a lot of meaning and emotion, but I was expecting something a little more upbeat.. But hey, there's nothing wrong with mellow stuff... I knew he had to have some more rocking stuff out there, so I went ahead and got "Easy Tiger"... It's not all exactly "rocking", but man I love this record so far!.. I haven't listened to it enough to really let it completely soak in, but this is the Ryan Adams that I was hoping for..

  7. You need to search for info on "laquering" the tweed. That is what fender did in the fifties, and their is a bunch of info available on that because so many people build those amps. I think there is some stuff on www.mojomusicalsupply.com about it.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out.. It definitely needs some kind of coat now that I have a square on the top where I made my little repair. Maybe something dark that would hide it.. Like a dark orange or something.. That would probably look pretty darn cool! Why am I so obsessed with the way my amp looks? Once I laguer it, maybe I'll post a pic or something.. If you guys care.. :)

  8. While ya'll are making more dates to play, we in Georgia are wishing away :worship

Hope to see more southern dates... :pray

Well, Charlotte was a great southern date of course.. But yeah, bring more Southern dates.. Preferably Charleston SC... They played the performing arts center a couple years ago.. Great venue.

  9. I'm not super super familiar with Scotch Guard, but the material should be porus enough to absorb enough of the chemicals that you won't need to be worrying about someone messing it up-- I'd look into some other options though. I've got a lil' baby Carvin Vintage 16 that has a nice tweed covering that looks like it's been shellac'd. I happen to dig the way it looks, it's a nice texture but durable as hell. Maybe there's a waterproofing clear treatment like that you could look into?

Yeah, I heard that some people have used Shellac, but it dries so fast that it's hard to make it look really nice.. You will get a bunch of brush streaks etc. because it dries almost instantly.. I'll look into some other things, but surprisingly there isn't that much on the web that covers this subject..

  10. Scotch Guard the bitch to prevent future stains perhaps?

I'm planning on covering it with something.. You think Scotch Gaurd would do the trick??

I did my own repair for the mildew stain yesterday. I took a piece of tweed from inside the back of the amp (part that you can't see). I cut out a square around the stain, and then put the piece over it.. Yeah, you can see the lines of the patch now instead of the stain, but I guess it looks better than it did.. Maybe some day I'll recover the whole top part of the amp.

I dunno why, I'm just anal about the way my equip looks.. I have a 93 strat that looks practically new because of this.

  11. You had me at "wet spot"

I've had other problems with the tweed cover on my bassman, and I've resigned myself to thinking that said blemishes are simply mementos that future fans will credit to my blistering touring resume.

Haha.. Yeah.. I'm starting to accept that there isn't much I can do about it.. I guess it'll just have to be my first battle scar. Thanks for the reply.

  12. I have a Fender Blues Deville 4x10 that is less than a year old. At a recent gig, someone sat a drink on the top and it left a wet spot.. I didn't notice it at the gig, so I put the cover on the amp and took it home.. Well, the next day, I found that it left a large mildew spot on the Tweed covering.. Normally, I wouldn't care to have a stain or two, but this looks REALLY bad. I have tried to wipe it out with cleaner, but that does no good.

Anyone know of any good product that could remove the mildew? Or am I screwed and would be better off buying a piece of tweed to recover the spot?

    Thanks in advance..

  13. I have two things to say.

    1) Not everyone that uses a multi EFX unit has bad tone.

    2) Individual analog stomp boxes aren't a guaranty of good tone.

The tone is in the player, either you have it or you don't and that means having the ability to dial in musical tones. I'm not in the 'I need 250 tone modes at my feet' club but I know guys that are and do it with great success. A friend of mine, who gigs regularly, uses a Line 6 Floor Pod straight into the PA, no amp. His tone is killer. I also know guys with pedalboards full of boutique gear that sound like anus. It really depends on the player.

Right on! I couldn't have said it better myself.. It is all in the player. A guy I used to know got to roadie for a Van Halen concert and he helped set up Eddie's Gear. He was lucky enough to play one of his guitars through his rig, and he said that to him, it sounded like complete ass.. So that proves that a lot of it is in the player.. A great player with a good ear can make any effect sound good.

  14. A few years ago when I was playing with a band in LA, I worked in the shoe department at Macy's in Sherman Oaks.. Jennifer Love Hewitt walked in and I helped her pick out some shoes.

Also had a beer with Ed Oneal and stood in the grocery line with Andy Dick.. Also hungout at Mark Hamills house.. His son was best friends with our drummer. It's just part of living in LA. You see famous people all the time.

  15. I keep seeing all of these posts about Ryan Adams.. It seems that he is very popular among the Wilco fan base. I'd like to get some of his stuff, what do you recommend I check out first?

    Thanks friends

  16. As I mentioned in my post above, stay far away from the distortions.. I have played hundreds of digital processors from the cheapest to the most expensive and I've never found a descent distortion sound.. BUT, if you run the processor through your effects loop, you can still preserve your amp tone.. For example, if you have a nice fender tube amp (which you shouldn't be using digital effects with anyway.. that's blasphemy), if you run the pedal straight through, you will find that it completely cancels the tube sound.. But if you run it through the effects loop, you still get the amp tone.. So you can use the digital chorus, tremelo, what have you and they sound halfway descent, but still nothing compared to analog..
