  1. I thought she was talking about the “first 30 people in line get to request a song” thing. Like maybe it might become a solo fundraiser show where Jeff plays what he wants to play, and however many songs he wants to play. I think he mentioned on stage that 30 is a lot! That made total sense to me at the time, because it’s definitely a lot of work for him to brush up on the songs and create a proper setlist sequence on the spot. Fans like to stump him with deep cuts which he hasn’t played for a long time, and he literally walks in the building without any idea what he’s going to play. It’s a lot to ask of someone doing a charity gig.

And he has sooooo many songs in his repertoire now. Not everyone who attends this fundraiser is as knowledgeable about his entire catalog, so he may want to control the show’s content better than what our song picks allow. I hope that’s what she meant, as it’s totally reasonable and he should do it his way. Even if I misunderstood what she meant and they have other ideas for Chicago solo shows, or even doing no charity shows (although that seems less likely to me), I’m so grateful to have been able to see him perform solo 2 nights in a row all these years. They’re such fun shows!

  2. Great stream!  I even got it to feed through my new smart TV, which I'n not used to yet, but has some good speakers attached!  Yesssss!

The Star Wars songs sound even punchier than they did at the shows they streamed last summer!

I also like that I know when I can leave the stream for a minute because the set list is already clear.

Agree, lost highway!  This sounds terrific!

  3. Is this part of the, as Jeff puts it, "fucked-up country record" that is supposed to be the follow up to Star Wars? Kind of sounds like it!

    Thanks, Wilco.

Agree!    And I like it ... a lot!

  4. I have had the worst nightmares with streaming audio/video since upgrading to Windows 10.  Only got to see last few songs by the time I "fixed" it.   At least that included "California Stars" with Jason Isbell joining in with Nels!

  5. Is that Jeff's handwriting on the setlist? I like it.

Wonder what More... sounds like solo acoustic. That would be great to hear.

    Thanks for sharing your report.

That is not Jeff's handwriting, it's Warner's.  Nice style, I agree completely!

"More ..." worked really well stripped down solo acoustic, a worthy choice for the solo setting.  In fact, Jeff did mention appreciation that we chose some newer songs from his catalog!

Incredible day of music and friendship this past weekend in Chicago!  So grateful to Jeff and Susan Tweedy for returning to the Second City Letters to Santa auction after a few years break, and once again offering Jeff to perform to raise money for the Chicago charity.  According to Jeff, this evening was the first solo debut of "King of You."   It also turned out to be a most beautiful day weather-wise, allowing us to be outdoors and enjoy the sunshine before the show began, and the full "Blue Moon" at the end.  Many thanks to the amazing Coleman family for their hospitality and the many old and new friends who participated in our group, with quite a few opting to perform with Jeff, who always enjoys sharing the stage.

  7. To the original poster:  Here's our thread about visiting Chicago,. It is lengthy and has been added to over the years, so be aware some info may be outdated.  You'll have to verify important info yourself.  I think there is some "Wilco tourism" info in this thread, you'll have to scan to find it.

Good luck visiting Chicago's Wilco locations!

  8. Ashtray, I'm with you! I'm thinking its some incredible combination of awesome Hollywood/Second City alumn actors and comedians with love for Wilco and Jeff & Sue. You know they're out there. Nick Offerman. Jon Hamm. Fred Armisen ... I think we had a thread here once upon a time about celebrity fans of Wilco. Any one of those folks might have a little extra dough for charity ;) And It's a tax write off, ya know! It really is all good.
