  1. Night one was incredible, night two just as incredible or even a little better. Combined it was all I could have ever asked for.

The sound was incredible and the performances sublime.

    Thanks WILCO! :cheers

BTW, what the heck happened to the end of Hate it Here? Did they just wind it up real quick to get Liam on for the next song? Jeff made some comment about it, don't recall exactly what he said.

  2. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I was not the least bit impressed with the first night of this festival.

First off...the Hunter Auditorium is quoted as being a "10,000-square-foot black box theater with a clear-span 30-foot ceiling, which can accommodate up to 850 seats."

Sure struck me as being WAY to small. Did they only expect 850 people for tonight? Pronto and The Books set were both uncomfortably crowded.

Secondly...this venue isn't really conducive to being a non-camping festival. This is a festival put on by wealthy white people for wealthy white people who want to peruse an art gallery between sets then go back to their hotel rooms.

A small investment in some proper signage would have been helpful inside of and outside of the venue.

I will say that the staff is very well trained at spitting out the company line regarding "This is the first time holding a festival at this venue and we apologize for any inconvenience." One of them was nice enough to tell me Wilco was going to play there in the fall. I hope not.

I agree with much of this and worry about how todays's crowds just might overwhelm the entire site. I hope I'm wrong but I envision terrible "pinchpoints' at certain times getting to certain places. Especially at the entrance and leaving to get to the courtyards from the museum store area.

I also imagine it'll be pretty damn hot inside Hunter for the rest of the weekend because it sure was hot in there on the floor during the Books set.

I liked the Books and have a nickname for them now, with no disrespect intended. Sons of Laurie...................Anderson that is.

The staff were all very nice but some not yet aware themselves where certain exhibits or stages were.

We ran into Pat briefly and got to say hi.

  3. I'm coming from near Philly and my girlfriend from Orange County NY.

We're staying near Albany for the weekend.....a little bit of a ride (about 40 miles away) but the price was right and we're not gonna kill ourselves to get there early on either Sat or Sun.

Really looking forward to Friday night though....

    Cya all there!

  4. Totally off topic, but whoever first mentioned priceline and betterbidding sites THANK YOU!!! cheekkiss.gif I'm planning my trip at the moment and had never heard of those websites, I've saved heaps. My trip is working out much cheaper than I thought, which are words I have never uttered in conjuction together in my life.

That would have been me and another fine person here on the board. Glad it's working out for you. thumbup.gif

We've yet to lock in our lodging but I fully expect to get a nice (3 or 4 star) hotel (outside Albany NY) about an hour away from North Adams in the $40-50 a night range, via Priceline of course.

  5. I'm going to put a bid in, thought it feels a bit early, seems like I'm most likely to get a deal closer to the date. I'm a bit uneasy about putting in credit card info without being able to see what I'm buying first... we'll see, i've only begun checking this out. thanks for the heads up, looks like it is worth checking out. let us know how it works out for you smile.gif

my advice, stay away from bidding on a one-star hotel unless it's last minute and there are no other options....start at the highest star level and don't go below two-star.

  6. is this really possible? I'll have to check out betterbidding! please do share your secrets! as a poor college student, $50 a night sounds fantastic smile.gif

better bidding gives you an idea of what hotels come up at what prices on priceline (and hotwire too). a great reference tool, and it's constantly updated by real people getting real deals.

there are tons of hotels in the troy and albany ny areas and i don't mind driving an hour in that part of the country. good luck to you!

  7. If anyone wants to try Priceline, there are 2 Williamstown hotels in their pool: HoJo and Willows. We tried bids up to $51 this morning and were denied. Check out www.betterbidding.com for cool bidding strategies.

shhhh....you're giving out my secrets! eyebrow.gif just kidding thumbup.gif

    and welcome to the board!

in the last two years i have made out very well all over the country with priceline and betterbidding.

got my tix yesterday and we plan to play it by ear on the lodging, but are prepared to commute from the albany area if necessary to save money. i'm thinking we should be able to get a 3 or 4 star hotel in or near albany for $50 a night or less.

  8. i know they did that ballpark tour earlier this year, but are there any rumors or rumblings around that they might come back to the new england area? are they going to continue the tour past the dates in canada?

Well they are most likely doing a Philly date (probably at the Tower) in the March timeframe. At least thats what he said....

  9. Just listened to some of the awesome quality live recording of this Dallas show. Saw them there last time and it was a blast, wish I could have been there again last night.

Sounds like they were on the money, setlist issues be damned.

    Just enjoy...

  10. The AGIB version reminds me (in a good way) of Stereolab. Which is appealing in and of itself.

The solo Tweedy version (and the pre-AGIB live versions out there) are also excellent, despite the entire nature of the song being different.

It's a good song that can survive two radically different approaches.

Sterolab yay! :thumbup Every band could use a little more of their influence.

My girlfriend is really not a fan of Spiders, but I still find a way to love her in spite of that.

  11. Anyone know if tailgating is permitted at Wappingers Falls? I know parking is limited and no bringing anything into the stadium, but can't find any information about tailgating. Anyone else planning on tailgating?

Yes, as a matter of fact we are planning to tailgate. And since they're charging for parking I'm pretty sure it would be allowed.

Stop by and say hello, we'll be in the handicapped parking section.

And pray for good weather....the forecast is a bit shaky still for Saturday althouhg looking better than it did yesterday.

  12. Honestly, I felt like I was at a greatest hits show. I was pretty disappointed in the setlist. The highlight of the show for me was misunderstood. Besides it being a greatest hits show it also seemed short compared to some of the other setlists that I've seen for this tour. Don't get me wrong I still had a good time and the band sounded really tight.

Does anyone else agree with me on the lameness of the set list last night?

Yes I agree but, in that setting (almost festival-like in my opinion) with that kind of crowd I totally understand why they'd play a set like that.

I'm pretty spoiled having seen about a dozen shows on the extended SBS Tour in just about every possible type of setting. The setlists are getting more hit filled lately but at some point I'm sure they'll go back the other way. And it really does depend on the venue. There was nothing intimate about last night. It was obviously all about the beer and talking to much of the crowd, and that's ok with me. I'm there pretty much for the music only as are most or all of you. But could the bands we love thrive or even survive with just the hardcore fans supporting them? Maybe not.

I didn't get any of the songs I particularly wanted to hear last night (Pot Kettle Black, Poor Places, Reservations, Theologians, Too Far Apart, Side w the Seeds) but some stuff just has to get moved out to make room for the new ones, that's just how it works. I'm sure (or at least hope) I'll get a slightly varied set next week at Wappingers.

I think they should run with this latest wave of exposure, media attention, whatever and make the most of it.

  13. Although, I'm sure it will be no problem to stub people down to the field.

Yes, that would be our plan to get our buddy down with us.

It's gonna be a great night. A bunch of us are meeting up at the Iron Hill Brewery across from the stadium at about 5:30. I'll be the guy with the Geraldine Fibbers shirt. Cya then.
