  1. We've got a horse race as to what's worse - the comments in this thread or this album. Some of you guys try far, far, far too hard.

Half of this album is alright. The rest is de

tritus. I abandoned this one almost entirely faster than SBS, which is almost, but not quite, as bad. I've listened to a lot less of Wilco in the last several years thanks to these two weak albums.

The immediate winners on WTA were One Wing, Bull Black Nova, You'll Never Know and Everlasting Everything. Wilco the Song grew on me and is alright. And, funny enough, although despised at first, I actually think You and I is halfway palatable.

Deeper down and tunes 7-10 are terrible, in my opinion. We've had two albums where they seriously drag to the finish line and barely cross it.

Just for kicks, the two worst Wilco songs ever, in my opinion, are Walken and What Light. Oof. Intolerable.

You didn't just try a little hard? I agree with What Light. Walken reminds me of Kingpin. Musically cool with throw away lyrics.

  2. I lost interest in this album after a few listens. There are a handful of songs (Country Disappeared and Solitaire are the only two that I can actually think of) that I thought were good. All the rest seemed like they were just trying to hard to create a "Wilco" song. I still enjoy them live. I'm hoping the new album will renew my faith.

And nothing on the album was as good as Leave Me Like You Found Me.

  3. The bottom line is....... the dude's music has the ability to make people feel things on a really deep level about their own lives. Which often in turn effects the quality and sometimes the direction of peoples lives.

    Amen

  4. I purchased By Your Side used but had not listened to it before the concert because it is much maligned by Crowes fans. I guess I've heard Only A Fool on the radio because I instantly recognized it at the concert. I thought it was a Motown cover. It's a great song. I listened to By Your Side today and it's pretty glossy. Not something that would make me buy another Crowes album if it was the first one I had heard. That being said, there are some good moments mixed with the embarrassing.

  5. I believe both of the Texas shows were noted as being electric sets only.

Any reason for that besides the one I stated? Is there any bad blood between Texas and the band. I read something somewhere about a bad experience in Austin but now I can't remember the details. They just seemed to be going through the motions and it made me wonder. Don't get me wrong, they never sounded less than great. They just seemed to be doing their job and not really enjoying themselves.

  6. I guess it's because of the noise ordinance in Austin that we got such a short set. Stubbs always shuts the outside acts down at 10:30. Pretty funny for a town that brags about being the live music capital of the world. Since they were starting at 8:00 I was hoping to get the acoustic/electric show. Anyone have any info about the other Texas dates?

  7. Kinda disappointed with the set list tonight in Austin. I've been listening to all the Crowes studio album for about two months now and I only knew about half the songs played tonight. They sounded great no complaint there. It just seemed like a night filled with covers. I'll need to see the set list posted but I swear this was a night filled with non album material. What ever. They where tight as hell. I just was hoping for some songs that I knew at least some covers I knew.

  8. i absolutely love 'movin' on down the line'. and live it's even better.

Yeah. I love that song to. That whole album is really good. Not much love for it on the crowes sites. Go figure.

Can't wait to see them on Saturday. I plan on buying that show on cd off of the livecrowes website.

  9. yeah. that's what i don't get. if they continued to make music like lions, it'd make sense. but all the new shit is solid.

Yeah. I've been really getting into Warpaint lately. I just bought the live version today. I can't get Wee Who See the Deep out of my head. That song just feels evil.

  10. i refuse to go to the crowes message boards. those people are idiots. they hate everything after southern harmony.

Makes you wonder why they still hang around. There are some bitter people over there just stewing. I've had a few good laughs.

  11. A lot of people don't seem to care for the acoustic songs, or the so-called country rock songs.

The only one I look at is the one at Crowesbase.

Yeah, I've been over there also. It's a bit more positive but there doesn't seem to be as much activity. I personally love the new musical direction. It seems like a natural progression. I have the BTF-UTF vinyl coming any day now. I love the vinyl track listing. Right now that's my go to Crowes album.

  12. Been going through a bit of a Crowes revival lately because of Croweology. I've got tickets to see them in Austin on the 25th. Because of that I've been lurking over at The Black Crowes .org site. Man they really hate the crowes over there. I find it amusing but I have to wonder why all the venom? It is a fan site and in my opinion the Crowes have been great since reforming. Just. Curious and I know better than to expect a straight answer on that forum.
