  1. Great thread. I'd like to add The V-Roys (Scott Miller) song "Fade Away" IIRC, it was written for Scott's sister who had a terminal illness. The lines:

"If I could see you one more day

it'd be the one before you changed

    'See you later' to 'Goodbye'"

choke me up. Every. Single. Time.

I saw him perform this song last month in Carrboro, and it was just as powerful then as on first listen.

  2. i think for the tom waits tour he did a few years back he made every ticket will call ONLY, which greatly affected the amount of scalping. There's ways to try and stop scalping, and i guess doing something like blowing up the prices of your shows is one way, but it's also a way to lose fans, not that he cares

Tom did that in 2008. It worked, too, as near as I can tell.

As you've stated, each and every ticket was essentially a Will-Call affair. We were issued a paper slip w/ our seat assignment, but this was after we gained entry into the venue by producing the credit card used and our ID, and there was no re-entry if you wanted to step out and smoke.

It had its hiccups the first few nights, but I believe they worked the kinks out and it was considered a success. Oh, and those ticket prices? I don't think they even topped $70-$80, and there wasn't any tiered pricing either, which I much prefer. It helps keep the playing field level when the tickets go on sale. My $80 can get me just as close as I can be as your $80.

I'm wondering if Neil is trying to convert another electric auto? That shit ain't cheap. But I won't be contributing to the fund-- not in this economy.

  3. Can I be nostalgic for the Altered State of Drugachusetts yet?

"Mr. Show", right? I've been DVR-ing this from IFC for the past few mos., secretly hoping to see that episode again. One of my favorite episodes is the one featuring Ronnie Dobbs and his "entitilitis".

  4. Fact: Wilco shows are better when I've seen Paul at them. Case in point: my last Tweedy show in C-ville (Dec. 2010) was arguably *the* Tweedy show to see on that string of dates. And Paul... he was sitting one row in front of me.

  5. These guys are great. I saw them open for Autumn Defense on their last tour.

I did too, only Sarah was fighting the flu at the Durham show, and was squirreled away in the bus/van for the duration of the show. I'm glad I'll finally get to see the "real" Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion. The show I saw was forgettable, and it wasn't because I was stoned, either.

  6. Just checked out Clarksburg State Park, looks beautiful. However, this is vacation, and we'd likely want to indulge in a beer or two while we're there...

If you're discreet about it, you should be fine. And be sure to use Dixie Cups.

We were never bothered last year.

  7. Last year my wife and I stayed at Clarksburg State Park, and plan to do so again this year. We didn't spend too much time at the campground, but it suited our needs perfectly. Clean bathrooms with showers, nice shaded campsites, short drive to venue, and cheap. You can reserve a spot online through Reserve America. I think it's $12 a night and there's a service fee for registering online (a few bucks more). I have a site booked from Friday through Monday. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to answer them if I can.

Me and my friends were there last year too!

What space are you in? We're booked at site 037 for the same days as you and your wife.

We all agreed that if we were going to camp, it's better to be *in the woods* rather than on a crummy athletic field with no showers and no shade. It may suit some folks, but not us.

  8. But I loved every minute of watching the Jets get thumped.

    Me too!

Didn't you just love Rex Ryan's temper-tantrum at about the 01:30 mark? The Steelers had just gotten the go-ahead 1st down and it was all over but the kneeling. Ryan violently threw his headset down and commenced to cursing. No audio of course, but I can read lips. The camera didn't stay on him long, though.

  9. I have a specific playlist of music on my iPod with a play count of '0' for the purpose of hearing it for the first time, so to me it's a bit of a trick question. I usually sort by album because I like listening to whole albums. I'm more likely to listen to music on my iPod than anywhere else since I don't have a stereo at the moment and not everyone in my household cares for my music selections.

Like minds... I have the same sort of playlist. I tend to listen to it (on the computer) while exercising at home. Doing so forces me to not skip songs, so I end up hearing stuff I've ever never heard, or haven't listened to in forever. (I had to rebuild my iTunes library after a crash a couple years ago, and all the play counts were reset.)
