I am going...haven't missed a Wilco or Dylan showin the Indy area in many years.

Tough question, all the discs are great in their own way...sort of like The Beatles in that regard. But, if I had to be nailed down on it, I would rank them as follows: 1) Being There (the first half being virtually perfect) 2) Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 3) Summerteeth 4) The Whole Love (though this could move up or down over the course of more time...right now I am loving it as much as any Wilco disc.) 5) A Ghost Is Born 6) Sky Blue Sky 7) Wilco (the album) 8) A.M. 9) Kicking Television purposely did not rank the Mermaid Session releases...but if I did, they would be between 6 and 7 Bottom lin

I recall the "Whoo" episode at the Murat as well...and I thought Tweedy and the band's response was with tongue held firmly in cheek. Generally, I think the band enjoys their Indianapolis stops...crowds are generally enthusiastic and knowledgable. I recall a show (also at the Murat) some time back as a benefit for Riley's Children's Hospital and it was an incredible show...one of the best I have seen from them. I would go so far to say that outside of the Chicago shows I have seen, the Indy shows (in general) are among the best I see each year.

Misunderstood...thanks. As to my daughters. Abbey, the 17 year old, has great taste in tunes...everything from the Beatles and Bright Eyes to Red Hot Chili Peppers (her favorite band), Lil Wayne and Jason Mraz... and Wilco is one of her faves. So, she enjoyed it a lot. Audrey, my 13 year old, pretty much sticks to top 40 and rap...oh well. Hopefully she will grow into a more musically well rounded young adult. But, my job as a parent is to force her to see real rock shows by real bands playing real instruments so that she can tell all her friends what cruel and unusual punishments we inf

Here are my quick thoughts from last night

I agree and disagree with the common spirit of this thread. I have seen Wilco many times over the years ...most recently at the Murat in Indianapolis this month. The best set list I have ever seen was in 2004 at the same venue in a charity show. The band chose numbers from virtually their entire catalog with a slight emphasis on AGIB. The most recent tour obviously is emphasizing SBS since it just recently was released and they are promoting that disc. But, I was pleased to hear gems such as Kamera and Sunken Treasure. We would likely all agree that we are fans of the entire catalog...a

The placement of that line completely makes the song for me. When you hear it in context with the rest of the verse, you can just see the song's subject with telephone receiver in hand, audible dial tone resonating in the backround, staring at it after the second party has already hung up. kinda like that after shot you see in soap operas, when the person on the other line has just been emotionally punched in the stomach.I agree...this is the single killer moment on the disc..."And I should take care"...first time I heard it, damn near cried. It is the single most real thing I have ever heard

MTV flips the switch back on for 'Unplugged'
IndyZen replied to unposed_question's topic in Just A Fan
LOL @ massages and rubdowns. I have seen them live a load of times. Very few bands provide fan access like Wilco...they almost always mill about outside the venue by their bus and chat with fans, give autographs, etc. You are right...they have paid their dues in spades. They are one of the hardest working live acts around. Whether it be UT or Wilco, they have been critic's darlings from the get go, yet have sold a shamefully low number of discs. And, you are 100% right...their music has never been compromised. In fact, one might argue the other extreme. Every time they actually build a -
MTV flips the switch back on for 'Unplugged'
IndyZen replied to unposed_question's topic in Just A Fan
I would think that any new fan of the band is a good fan from the band's perspective. I am a huge Tweedy fan, dating back to Uncle Tupelo days so I feel that in some ways that Wilco is MY band. But, I understand that being in a band is both an artistic and a commercial enterprise. It is in the band's interest to have as many potential fans buying and hearing their music as possible. The recent VW campaign is a prime example. Some of their fans will accuse them of "selling out". If they get any MTV or VH1 airplay (videos, unplugged, etc.) I am sure those same fans will complain about that -
Currently, mine is Hate It Here...though it changes day to day. I have seen them live on this tour a couple of times, and the best tunes live off of SBS include Hate It Here, Impossible Germany, Your My Face and Walken. Personally, What Light is likely my least fave cut off of the new disc....but I love the whole thing.

(copy/pasted my thoughts on Low from my notes on the 6/15 Indy show) The opening act was Low. A band I was not previously familiar with hailing out of Duluth, MN. They are a trio (guitar, bass and percussion). If I had 2 words to describe them, they would be "Aural Ambien". This is a very quiet band to the extreme. If you can imagine Kraftwerk without keyboards and at
