Freakin' A. This is tough. Ok here goes:
Jimi Hendrix
The Clash
Wilco
Neil Young
Gillian Welch
Sublime
Sufjan Stevens
Rev. Gary Davis
Ryan Adams/Whiskytown
Stereolab
Bob Dylan
Tripping Daisy
Skip James
Bob Marley
Nick Drake
Grateful Dead
Bruce Springsteen
The Velvet Underground
The Strokes (really)
Iron & Wine
That's with no hip hop, jazz or electronic music represented at all ... also light on the country which is a damn shame. I want 20 picks for each genre ... need room for John Hartford, Willie Nelson, Norman Blake, The Stanley Brothers, Johnny Cash, etc.

Yeah - the only one of the albums I listed that I still listen to with any regularity is Time (The Revelator). I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever get old. So far no dice.
Still, I do enjoy the others and listen to them on occasion. YHFT quite a bit, NGDB almost never.

Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland
listened to this for the first time in 5th grade ... wasn't even into rock and roll yet but within a couple of weeks was listening to The Beatles, The Doors, Cream, CSN and Santanta
The Black Crowes: Amorica
totally blew my mind in '95 and didn't leave my CD player for a loooong time ... I had been playing guitar for three or four years and this album made me realize there was life outside of standard tuning
The Pharcyde: Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
man, talk about a whole new can of worms! this album never gets enouth cred ... got me into ATCQ, Jungle Brothers, Beastie Boys, De La Soul, etc.
Tripping Daisy: Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb
I thought this album was completely visionary when I heard it (still do) and it made me pay attention to indie rock in general
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Will The Circle Be Unbroken
reintroduced me to non-pop country music after a long hiatus ... whew, I have come a long way in my appreciation of bluegrass/old time since then
Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
of course ... this album is the reason I listen to Wilco at all (although I now listen to the entire catalog) ... nuff said
Gillian Welch: Time (The Revelator)
holy frikin' hell this is a good record and I will never get it out of my skull

Will has been around the TX live music scene for a looong time. Before Centro-Matic he played drums in the Dallas band Funland. Those guys were awesome to watch although I think everyone would agree that Will's talents are best used as a songwriter - he is just too prolific and kick ass. I also saw him play a few shows circa '95 with just a telecaster and a little 8" tube amp turned up as loud as possible (i.e. no backing band). It was a trip (in a good way).
FWIW I like the older stuff a lot. "Tied To The Trailer" and "Post-It Notes From The State Hospital" will always be classics to me. I still listen to Redo The Stacks as much as the newer records.

James had to fly to Antartica to shoot penguins.
I don't even want to know ...
-
I dig Justice a lot. It was my first Metallica record also ... all the songs are great, IMO.
Just doesn't quite have the melt your face awesomeness of Puppets.
-
SHUT UP! ....................... yeah, I totally f'd that up
So, which records are we talking about?
BTW, I vote for Master of Puppets regardless ...

Tweedy, schmeedy! Get a load'a Neko!
Neko Case = my longest standing and greatest of all time rock star crush (and I've had a few). That chick totally melts me.

Damn, looks pretty solid. Now I want to see this.
Alas ... can't escape being a child of the 80's.

I'm fine with giving my 1-year-old cheap but "real" musical instruments. She has been banging on guitars tuned to an open chord since she was able to sit up unassisted. You can find beginner stuff that stays in tune and is still inexpensive. I found a Rogue brand uke for about $35 in a Musician's Friend catalog. If she tears it up no big deal.

Also check out Scott H. Biram, a one man band from down your way. His new album on Bloodshot is great.
+1 for Scott Biram. Dirtiest one man band you will ever see. Kick ass.

Can I get a witness or something like that?
AMEN!!!
Seriously, how many people can play over 20 instruments fluently and write melodies for song after song like it's going out of style? And that's not even mentioning his guitar playing. I mean ... gimme a break ... totally awesome.
-
The live album is awesome - one really long track. I'm a fan.
-
Yup, Tweedy talked about it on the Bob Edwards show or something.
Mm Hmm ... sounds like he's describing someone swatting a fly. Of course, with Tweedy that may just be "thematic layer #1."

My experience w/ getting interviews for college newspapers was mixed. I did talk to a few bands who were fairly well known but most were also based in TX (like me). I don't know if you will get a reply but give it a shot & contact mgmt - it won't hurt anything. You never know.

"Pot Kettle Black" isn't generally underrated but it has been underrated by me - popped up on a random playlist yesterday and I couldn't believe it had been so long since I heard it.
-
why would we engage anybody (intellectual or otherwise) to engage in any sort of debate w/ him if it isn't worth debating?
Because he's President of Iran.
-
He's not talking about the holocaust at Columbia.
Not in his speech ... but he addressed it in Q&A.
Personally, I have absolutely no problem with his being allowed to speak. I just hope some dumb redneck doesn't try to shoot him.

YHF although AGIB is a very, very close second.
At the moment, AGIB is getting more spins.
-
"I've Just Seen a Face" is the best Beatles song.
I dunno - can I vote for side 2 of Abbey Road? That counts as one song, right?
Does the entire album Revolver count as one song? They are all equally kick ass ...
-
Google news links have embedded clips, but I ain't clickin on em at work.
I'm w/ Sir Stewart - I'll have to read the rest when I get home.
But ... I think I've seen enough to say OMG!
Tough break, Meg.
-
The only drawback of the M1-A is the battery (as with all active pickups). Of course, a lithium battery is a great idea (1000 hours ain't too shabby). It's one of the few active pickups I would consider.

self titled debut album. great music and a great story
Ohhhh yeah - I gotta give that one a spin. It's been awhile. Awesome record and a great live show.

Aaawwwwwwwwwwwww .... crud.
I forgot John Fahey.
I hereby replace Skip James with John Fahey.
This whole list thing is making me unduly irritated. I can't pick just 20.
