Way too many great songs on this: http://www.amazon.co...1107164&sr=8-10
This collection is amazing. A bit pricey, but worth it if you are serious about John Prine.
Also, a strange, but great album is 'In Spite of Ourselves' All cover duets with amazing women (Iris DeMent, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, and more)
Someone once said something to the effect of John Prine in his 20s wrote like he was in his 60s, and it was meant in a very complimentary way. He's got a way with it.
This looks like a nice tribute album.

double whoa

Wow, thanks for this, I'm only on Daniel, but it's amazing. In my own city even in a venue I know.
-
Most of these performances are marginal, but Neil Young's Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and All Along The Watchtower, along with George Harrison's Absolutely Sweet Marie are stellar.
And Eddie Vedder's Masters of War is right in there.

No Michigan dates
I saw Crowded House a couple of years ago when they were touring for Time On Earth, and it was a solid show. Neil still has one of the best voices in music.
I had free tickets to see them near Chicago in 1991 on the Woodface tour, but couldn't find a ride (none of my friends wanted to go to a show that featured Richard Thompson, Crowded House, and the Smithereens -- what the HELL?). I have a CD of their set from that night (from the WXRT radio broadcast) and it's one of my most-listened-to live recordings of ANY artist. Still pissed I didn't get to see that show.
with Richard Thompson and the Smithereens in 91, whoa, that would've been good.
Don't give up on Michigan....the last several dates on the list are from the Northwest to Calgary, MSP, and Chicago. Michigan is an obvious next stop if they keep going, and I've heard more dates are on the way.

Finally
I will GO
Great observation imo
attractanything "Beautiful tune. You know you're a great songwriter when you can write a catchy pop tune where practically none of the lyrics rhyme (listen again). Neil Finn is pure genius.
You will be glad you did. Nice to see the response on Mr. Finn and Crowded House. The only, only band I've ever seen that was equal to Wilco in a live venue was Crowded House.

Ok, I give up this topic PJ over there on my left is in the dark as well....

PS I coined the phase "scary tweedy" and it stuck. It's like my 15 minutes of fame!!!!
or my 15 mintues for now perhaps. I liked that scary tweedy comment after you posted it, but then someone actually renamed the jpeg that, which gave me the 'scary renamer' vibe.
Anyway, the real bottom line here is: are you all better off without photos like 'scary tweedy' or not? It seems we are headed into rough seas for awhile in that regard, and I for one am taking my camera 'out of the picture' (pardon me, I think that's a Son Volt song)
-
You don't read much u2roolz, do you? (Not to knock his serious posts, but he's - ah - prolific with the one-liners.)
I should probably take his comment as a compliment, but I was so bummed to discover this thread today, my reaction was dismay. I probably shouldn't take it so seriously, eh?. Anyway, I love that 'scary Tweedy' photo, and in thinking about it, if Jeff didn't want me to get a photo like that, why was he looking right at me (or, he was totally pissed off that I was taking the picture perhaps? - I guess we'll never know). Anyway, my karma is good on this one, I actually sent a high quality print of it by request halfway around the world because of how nicely I was asked by a fellow via chicagoan.
If I had to guess, it's the quantity, not the quality, that is the band's issue regarding photography. Thereby, ego filled, I absolve myself of any guilt.
-
Not as unlikely as you would think.
Really? Tell me more (via PM if you'd like)
-
I think this is the sole reason for the "new" policy.
Unfortunately, I take it you are serious. As the photographer of the 'scary Tweedy' as someone has coined this photo, I'm not thrilled to take any portion of credit for this change, but I wondered about it. I regret posting my photos now. I took the Victoria and Portland photos without a flash or any other lights or distractions on, LCD screen off, auto focus assist off, and was unobtrusive to others. I have previously posted concert photos, including some that are linked to Wilcobase. I want to note that I only took them during a couple of songs. I don't sell them, even though I was asked, and have willingly shared them, just like taping. That's the last of my photos you'll see from Wilco shows, unless I get a pro permit, which I assume is unlikely.
A big bummer this is though! I’ve been taking pictures at shows for many years, but in the early days (remember film?), I was one of the few taking pictures and no one cared, but now its reached critical mass, and at a few shows I haven’t even wanted to take them and didn’t, because people around were so inconsiderate about their own photography (as in constant, with lights and gizmos – do you really need 200 pictures?).
In the end, I’d love to ask Jeff, was it the quantity of people taking pictures, or was it concern about good ones actually getting out there?.

Thanks! I wanted to bring my real camera but I called the Vic and they said small point-n-shoots only so I didn't bother. But when I stepped outside after being completely blown away by the performance, I had to grab something to preserve the moment (I have a horrific memory - hence the desperate plea for the tape!). I snapped that shot just as my iPhone battery was going dead and did a little editing on the plane ride home. I hope there is a more liberal camera policy in Montclair, NJ or Hartford, CT - like there was in Wappingers Falls and Beacon, NY (see horribly compressed, forum-compliant shots attached):
The photo with Pete Seeger is beyond cool....

Just finished up the first of two annual scholarship shows... have seen many of these over the years, but this was one of the best. Here's a taste of the set list (not in order)... Jeff played 30 songs, all requests from the early arrivals...
Gun, Screen Door, Acuff-Rose - some nice Uncle Tupelo picks. I'd love to see Gun live sometime.
How does Jeff do Spiders as an acoustic song? I've seen one of his solo acoustic shows, and am amazed at what he can pull off, but Spiders is hard to imagine.

Someone worked their magic with a camera for Wilco in Seattle - just saw these posted on the official site:

Well now we have our Olympic soap opera in gear.....not quite Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, but the media will take what they can get:

I'm sure we'll hear more of this in the next few days.

Auref,
Based on the tour schedule, it looks like May 26th or 27th were just made for playing in France. It's right between Denmark and Spain - perfect....
I have officially signed your petition, and will toast to your luck with a good Rhone wine later on in the evening. No Dordogne foie gras here though I'm afraid....
-
That was a great, twangy setlist that's for sure. Reservations even. Wow!
-
Yes, but it has also been said in this thread that Jeff has been a little pissy with people who sit. Bob
No, not at all as long as it's not through the whole show, and that's my point. He was highly appreciative of the Portland crowd for figuring out when to stand, and when not to in a 'formal' theater (official Olympic translation: theatre) setting. He really seemed to like that people did both. you can be their leader and orchestrate the whole thing~!
-
Oh, never fear. The members of Wilco may become honorary citizens here yet.
City Council may declare Wilco members honorary citizens of Madison
Way to cave, Madison!
Makes me nostalgic for my years of living there. gawd, I love that town..... you guys rock!
-
As the guy who started this thread, I wanted everyone to know that I am saying FUCK IT - I AM STANDING. This is my 1st Wilco concert, and I'll be damned if I am pressured into sitting. EVERYONE should stand! Bob
If only life were so simple......
......sit and stand, depending on the song, that's my (and apparently Jeff Tweedy's) advice. (yes I'm repeating myself from way back in the early part of this thread)
it will all work out in the end, I expect.
-
Live the only other bands I've seen in the last few years that are on the same plane are:
Crowded House
Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3
Eels
(an evasive answer I suppose)
In the historical record, Wilco hasn't topped the Beatles, the Kinks, or Beethoven for me. Not yet anyway.

Great great show. Can't wait to hear the recordings.
Flew in from Boulder, CO with my son, so we could do the Wisconsin/Madison college tour. He is a music lover who has gone head over heels into Wilco in the past few months. We had 3rd row seats right in front of Nel. View/venue was outstanding, sound that close was so-so (we basically got the Nels monitor mix). No complaints, though. Long show, great song selection (I missed "Side with the Seeds" and he missed "Spiders"), but was really glad to catch the "Broken Arrow." Loved the Tweedy guitar curling and Nels using an egg beater on one of the encores. Hadn't seen a Casino Queen or Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway (again) in years.
Now I have to wait for Aspen. My son loved it and said he's already psyched to see them again. I told him one benefit of attending Wisconsin is he'll get to see Wilco regularly (the campus was nice too).
Welcome BoulderEagle. Tell your son from someone who had the pleasure of going to the UW that he'll love it there. (Good rock climbing and/or hiking at Devil's Lake if he gets homesick for Boulder sometimes as well)
I missed this webcast last night, but it'd be great if it gets posted somewhere....
