  1. Here are the rules...if you have been to any countries still on the list of the person above you remove them in your reply....I have taken out the ones I have been to. There are currently 203 countries in the world (Don't mind the numbers after the countries name) I also added Antartica even though I guess it is not a country but I feel should be on the list.

    PS..yes I know I am a dork. hmm.gif

You are not a dork, this is my kind of list, but the post removals in this need to be reconciled, and since you started the thread, I hearby nominate you.

I think I can take out China (what a good feeling, metaphorically speaking), Slovenia, and Costa Rica, but all the others probably have already been claimed.

I just checked this against the set list I posted in the jpg above. It's almost exactly the same! I'm amazed he writes it out each night, versus a photocopy. Still, it was a fantastic show. He was much better than the other two times I've seen him as a solo act, and frankly, he seemed to be alot happier now.

  3. Alright, I'm being a total beer snob, but every time I visit my siblings in Wisconsin, it's always Honey Weiss in the fridge, and I just find it too sweet and watery. Eventually I usually end up stocking the fridge there with some Sierra Nevada Pale, because it's available there and is much more my style of beer.

I'm a west coast IPA snob, totally accustomed to high hops in a dry base with some octane. I can't enjoy Honey Weiss, much as I'd like to be able to support the long history of Leinenkugels . To you who do, no offense, just my personal preference. cheers.gif

  4.

Maybe this is like a whistle that only dogs can hear, and I am just not getting it.

Combined with Ambien and a shot of Bushmills

If Nora would cut loose, she'd probably be amazing. She's got the voice. Maybe she should take a sabbatical studying under PJ Harvey. Let it rip, Nora+!

  5. At the tail end cool down portion of my group workout session at the gym today, the instructor played California Stars and said it was for me. We'd previously talked about the upcoming tour, and she has tickets to the Seattle show.

So 10 other people were forced to listen to a Wilco song. That is the first time in two years or working out there that I've heard Wilco amid all the other music played in spin classes and the like. It's the beginning of total conversion, I'm sure.

  6. I remember hearing that Ravi Shankar's contribution to her childhood were little beyond the act of conception. I think they have a decent relationship now, but if he wasn't much of a father, she's not much of a Shankar.

That would make a difference, that's for sure....

  7. I wonder why she didn't keep her original last name of Shankar. It's such an honorable name.

I've tried to like her music, but it just doesn't work for me. Kudos to those who do. I have heard that her recent release is a bit less overproduced than earlier effort, for lack of a better description on my part. She's obviously got alot of talent. Maybe when I'm in my rocking chair in my older age with a pipe on the porch it will work for me.

  8. Wow, all kidding aside, last nights Son Volt show was really great (12/4 - Neumo, Seattle)

25 songs - great sound - good beer - good friends - a fine time was had by all

Massy Furguson had a great drummer - enjoyable warm up.

  9. I am going to see Son Volt tomorrow, with Massy Ferguson opening. I can't say I've ever heard of Massy.

and who is this Son Volt guy, is he related to Sun Ra?

I figured, what the hell, since I saw one of the band members a few times in the past playing solo.

  10. Exactly. The Grammys, Oscars, etc. always remind me of a fight in the hallway between classes in high school. No one really knew the people in the fight before it started, no one remembers their names about 20 minutes afterward, but for a few fleeting moments, watching and chatting about it is a superb pastime.

We don't care, but it's fun to bitch about on a cold dark night.

You obviously went to alot bigger high school than I did ;)

  11. I hardly see how Wilco (the album) is Americana, but you have to admit that if you were Wilco, you'd be pretty damn happy to be in the same category as some of those folks (Dylan, Helm).

Isn't Americana an orange juice brand?

  12. I thought that album was great! Yeah, it's not a rocker but there are some great vocals and grooves implemented by two very different personalities...plus, T Bone Burnett is a hell of a producer. But, to each their own...

I actually don't dislike Raising Sand, and got a copy out of interest, but I can't get too excited about it either. I just can't see how that could ever be 'Album of the Year'

Interesting to look through the years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Album_of_the_Year

  13. Last years album of the year says it all:

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Raising Sand

Most boring album of the year, a total snore....

Anyone complaining about W(TA) should listen to this one. Which one would you rather have on a desert island?

  14. Wow - that's a nice virtual tour of the Civic theatre.

Hate to show my age - but the last gig I went to there was Jethro Tull in 1974 (the War Child tour). It was a nice venue then - and looks even better now.

'OMG' - not showing my age

I saw a War Child tour gig - showing my age

  15. I'm responding as I drink a Great Lakes Christmas Ale.....

I was at a grocery store in Marquette MI about 10 years ago, and saw Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald. It was like "Wilco heard when you're out and about" since the GL brewery is like 20 miles from my house. It felt like a lil' bit o' home so far away.

Bell's is the best (after Great Lakes). Since I know where the Two Hearted River is, I love it even more. I LOVE THE UPPER PENINSULA!! I fantasize that the "private beach in Michigan" is somewhere on Lake Superior. or west of St. Ignace on route 2 on Lake Michigan!

I like Magic Hat too! Had a Lucky Kat earlier.

Marquette, and the Upper Peninsula are very special to me, really. Most people have no idea what is there, it is so off the beaten track of interstates and commerce in general.

Back on topic, there were some good beers there too, including the Great Lakes brews.

  16. it's exactly the same as buying a CD. just imagine the CD is on some shelf taking up space in your house music.gif

No way, even with my relatively poor hearing, I can tell. I played cuts on the remastered White Album on CD and compared it MP3 versions on my Ipod, both run through a decent stereo. It's pretty obvious. With an MP3, it's like skipping, what, maybe 2/3rds of the data on a CD?

  17. I'm almost exclusively an IPA lover. Ruination and Hop juice tops the list, with stuff like Mojo, Hop Devil right up there.

IPA, indeed - my mostest favoritest. Two that are really hitting the spot these days are Ninkasi Total Domination IPA out of Eugene, OR and Boundary Bay IPA, Bellingham WA.

    Total Domination IPA

ipa.jpgA true Northwest style IPA, citrus notes, floral and balanced, from ingredients regionally sourced, it is the definition of a true craft beer.

6.7% alc./vol. 65 ibus. Always available in 22 oz bottles, and on draft.

  18. 1. Being There

    2. Summerteeth

    3. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

    4. A Ghost is Born

    5. Sky Blue Sky

    6. Wilco (The Album)

    7. A.M.

I hate to put W(TA) so low, but look what's on top. Tough choices...
