  1. Everybody hold tight for the front of balcony recording from the Fox. There was something that didn't seem right, turns out that one channel on a newly modified piece of gear is not working as it should be. I'm in the process of trying to make the most out of what I have, it will be quite listnenable regardless but not as easy to deal with as I had hoped. Give me a day or so to figure it all out, I want to put the best version up that I can. Thanks for your patience...

    Thanks.

  2. Between this, I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, Sunken Treasure, and the first Wilco ACL performance, my DVR is gonna get full. My wife isn't gonna have room for her 270,000 episodes of House, ER and Greys Anatomy she has recorded. I recommend that if you get HDTV and you have DVR, you upgrade your DVR. High Def. is murder on your DVR hard drive space.

  3. I noticed a video of Andrew Bird playing with Wilco in Detroit, and Tweedy said as they began their first encore, "we welcome back our 7th member" (this [scroll down a bit] video of Jesus, etc. is PROOF)

    Which got me thinking...

How FREAKING SWEET would it be if Andrew Bird joined Wilco, even if only for an album? Firstly he's not really a member to begin with, but still. In theory, this sounds drooling-over-the-keyboard awesome. Granted, it's probably not practical, but seriously. It would be psycho-crazy-awesome.

So? What does everyone else think?

Well, if all he was gonna do was play fiddle, and sing background vocals, I'm not too sure. It would be a huge waste of talent. It would be like getting Jim James, just to be a back-up singer. But if it was more of a split, like the band playing some of his songs it would be pretty sweet.

  4. Fox Theatre Sound Check

I was able to collaborate on a poster design for the recent Milwaukee show and as a result was given tickets to the Detroit show. After a successful effort to have our poster signed, we were able to sit in on the sound check at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday afternoon. As a huge Wilco fan, this sho was unlike any other concert/music situation I have experienced. Other than sound men & ushers, my buddy Mock & I were 2 of 6 people listening to a 7 song "set" as the band dialed in their sound for the show that night (which by all accounts was amazing). The band acknowledged the sound check fans and were funny gracious and loose...All that & then Andrew Bird did his sound check....unbelieveavble, to be so close to all this wonderful music. I captured as much of the scene on video before my battery died.

Here is a link to my recap & videos:

A huge thank you to the band and the management for the opportunity....truly a once in a lifetime!!

You know, I have never met you but I think I actually hate you at this moment. :thumbup You have got to be one of the luckiest people on the green earth. By the way great article, good job on the poster, and thanks for the videos.

  5. I have never been a huge Dylan fan but I really liked all of the covers on the website. After reading the list of the covers I am highly impressed. I pray that the the band listed as "The Million Dollar Bashers" will make an album. On Wikipedia it lists the members as being:

Sonic Youth stars Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley,

    Wilco guitarist Nels Cline,

    Television guitarist Tom Verlaine,

Dylan bassist Tony Garnier, guitarist Smokey Hormel and keyboardist John Medeski.

I don't know the who heck would sing, but any album that features Nels, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and Tom Verlaine, would have to kick arse. I guess Verlaine could sing. He has a decent voice. Maybe they could get Cat Power. I really liked her Dylan cover.

  6. This was my first Wilco show and I am floored.

    A couple of notes:

First, and most important- That 2nd encore kicked all shades of ass. To be able to see Red Eyed & Blue - I Got You - Casino Queen - then Outasite (Outamind) to end a show was so f***ing unbelievable it is still hard for me to comprehend. Also, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would get to hear "Too Far Apart".

Second - Nels Cline is a god. I have only seen him play a couple of single song performances on TV and the like, and when he plays like that he is somewhat reserved. He was full on rocking out last night. I could see a little that Pat was rocking out himself on the 2nd encore, doin his best Kieth Richard impression, but I had some guy who had to be 6'5" or so standing in front of me so for the majority of the show I didn't get to see a whole lot of Pat or John.

Third - I realize that this comparison is somewhat of a cliche' but the first thing that came to my mind when I saw Glen was Animal from the Muppets. He was all over that kit.

Fourth - I'm not sure if Jeff knows anything about the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry, but when you mention anything bad about Columbus in Detroit you can pretty well bet you are going to get a crap load of applause.

Fifth - My wife mentioned several times after the show how impressed she was that the band was able to keep time and kick in at the right moments after the noise sections in Via Chicago. She was kind of freaked out by the lighting changes during the song but impressed none the less.

Last - This being my first Wilco show I am kind of biased, but are all of their shows this good or was it just this one? Best concert I have ever attended. Hands down.

  7. I can't find my copy of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" (my kids have a horrible habit of taking movies out of the dvd player and not putting them back in the proper case). Is "Be Not So Fearful" the song that the band were warming up with before a show in the movie?

  8. It's just that simple, which John sings lead and plays guitar on.

You know, I never put 2 and 2 together. For some reason I always thought that Brian Henneman sang on that one. See you learn something new every day. :frusty

  9. Hey I just saw wilco last night in Iowa city. I have seen them in many of the past tours but I have never seen jeff play bass and let john sing lead. Has this been happening alot on the sky tour?

What song(s) did Jeff play bass on?

  10. in all honesty, ME!

In fact, i was in contact with the management 3 weeks ago about my band opening for them in Belgium and Spain. I'm waiting for their decision. Still it's a long long shot.

    :hmm

GL, I hope it works out for you. I would pee myself with giddiness to be able to be able to open for Wilco. Unfortunately I have two things working against me. 1 - I'm not in a band, and 2 - My guitar playing sucks as it is. I would be so freaked out I'd probably forget how even play a barre chord.

  11. Know of any good places to eat post concert in the vicinity or anywhere in downtown?

Also, anyone know of any 'cheaper' parking spots downtown?

Maybe I should just park in the casino, take the mover, and walk my way there for cheapness.

I was a sucker and paid 12 bucks for the fox Theater garage parking. Between 2 thirty-three dollar tickets, parking and fees I ended up paying over 100 bucks. ticketmaster is just plain evil. :realmad Ticketmaster even had a fee for the parking.

  12. I think Josh Ritter would be fantastic. The National and Ron Sexsmith would awesome as well. There's lots of bands that would be great, My Morning Jacket opening again would be crazy.

Wow, I never realized that MMJ opened up for Wilco. I would give my left round thing to see that show. I might have to change my answer as I have already seen Grant Lee Phillips play when he was with Grant Lee Buffalo. They opened up for the Cranberries. I only went to see GLB. They were my favorite band at the time (I hadn't yet heard of Wilco). Also, am I the only person in the world who hasn't heard of Andrew Bird before. After I saw that he was opening up for Wilco this Wed. in Detroit I checked out some of his stuff on line and it's pretty good. He reminds me of a stripped down version of Arcade Fire or maybe Sufjan Stevens.
