  1. It sucks when we see evidence of our own advancing age in the appearances of others.

^ this. However since I cannot see my "alleged" bald spot I choose not to believe it is there. Perhaps Jeff rolls the same way. Never underestimate the power of denial

  2. Blue Black Nova is the demo version -- originally, the song was about a used car dealer trying to unload a large shipment of very dark blue novas .. "They're in the showroom, out on the floor. I'll give you a deal, let me get my manager."

Very different from the version on the album, more tacky, less dark. A keeper!

    :yes Touche'

  3. Step 1. Take both Volumes.

    Step 2. Slap them together.

Step 3. Issue them both on 180-gram vinyl.

Step 4. Add a third disc of outtakes and b-sides: My Thirty Thousand, Bye-Eyed Jim, When the Roses Bloom Again, Ain't Gonna Grieve My Lord No More, Give Me a Nail, etc. Pad it out with alternate takes of several of the songs. Remaster, rinse, repeat.

Step 5. Include a sumptuous 80-page booklet with interview excerpts from Jeff, Billy, Nora, lots of stuff on Woody, photos of actual lyrics, etc. Especially be sure to include the hand-written Mountain Bed on fancy-shmancy paper in there, so we can all pretend we're actually looking at the real lyrics. :wub

Step 6. Include the Man in the Sand DVD plus bonus footage, if you are feeling charitable.

    Easy, right? :dancing

You must be in marketing. I like it

  4. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

    Oh, and thank you.

This show reminds me very much of when they played Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque in 2009. Tweedy characterized that one as "lavender-scented" after the first half. Sadly, have never seen (or, obviously, heard) a recording of it.

you and I both patiently await that show :no

It was my wife's first and I hate I can't recreate it for her. Oh well she had fun 2 nights ago.

  5. I fucking hate Bon Jovi, and have fucking hated them since I first heard them when I was in high school, so we are going on 25 years of utter scumbag contempt for those assholes. Buncha bullshit pansy-ass fake metal shit. Fuck Bon Jovi. I even like Journey better than Bon Jovi.

And I hate Bon Jovi so much, I am not even going to delete the accidental duplicate post.

so I am guessing my anaolgy struck a chord with you :lol ?

  6. Cool.

Kansas Al, I began listening to KISS around 1976, and I am still listening to them today.

It bugs me when people post in threads just to dump on certain bands over and over again. But, I should not be too surprised, I use to do it all the time myself.

I'd like to hear Wilco cover Hard Luck Woman, or A World Without Heroes.

I have a buddy who would argue that Kiss is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My ignorance of the band would be my downfall in this arguement. I guess I always viewed them as a novelty rather than "serious music" but truth be told I don't know enough about them to comment either way. Just perception. Long way of saying more power to ya :)

  7. Isn't that sort of the point of the song though? "I miss the innocence I've known. Playing Kiss covers beautiful and stoned"

I have always taken that to mean innocence = yes I like Kiss, I'm blazed, and having a blast with no responsibility (and I certainly don't know any better). I.E. Kiss could be the same metaphor as any music we all cut our teeth with that will look back on and shake our heads about. Wilco Radiohead etc...kinda wakes you up and slaps you in the face and says wow music is actually serios shit. Kiss-well not so much but damn those were fun times. I personally think Bon Jovi is the quintessential example in the modern day but I digress.

  8.

Jeff's whammy bar got a serious work out last night. His lead guitar work seems much more muscular and prevalent this tour. It is edifying to see him play like that.

Totally agree. Most involved I have seen Jeff ever as far as his guitar work. I was waiting for him to have the guitar battle with Nels during Hoodoo Voodoo :rock

  9. OMG THEY DIDN"T DO SPIDERS OR HEAVY METAL! Is that a misprint?

Refreshing isn't it? I hit a couple songs I had not had including At Least That's What You Said which was a real treat. I did not realize Jeff took the solo on that and was thoroughly impressed. I was surprised they chased Impossible Germany with that figuring Nels hands might fall off (best Impossible Germany I have seen) but it made more sense when Jeff took the solo. Very professional show with some fun thrown in. :thumbup

  10. Am I the only person that immediately and currently thought/think that this thread was/is a gag?

No you are not. I am still trying to figure out if this is a "name the albums in order" thread (a personal fav) yet I am failing to find the punchline or "get it." Perhaps I am slow. Hummmm

I want to take a bath with Jeff Tweedy. Can someone help me out with that?

it's not fun. he farts in the tub. true story

  11. Yay I got in on the B-day thread in time. Just noticed the date and almost forgot!

Have a happy B-day Jeff. :thumbup

This thread is really great, but I'd like for Jeff to hear my birthday wishes personally. Does anyone know how I could get in touch with him to tell him directly and see if my salutations meet his approval?

    :pirate

    Happy Birthday!

    Ok that made me laugh...stalker

  12. Hi Al,

I live in Jackson County, but my in-laws live in Johnson County. Probably the reason I ever venture out that way...it's too shiny. Here's to hoping that Wilco will be here in the fall!

yeah sort of firgured I was setting myself up for a JOCO joke. I'm in OP.

    My shows:

    KC Crossroads Oct 13, 2007

University of New Mex Popejoy Hall 5-9-08 (show is still MIA)

Tweedy Urbana IL University of IL 1-31-09

  13. you can get 2 sets the demos here:

    and the engineering version:

    http://download.owlandbear.com/Wilco%20-%20YHF%20Demos%202

this is the one I am having trouble with. seriously this is the weirdest thing. I get an "invalid argument" error message when I try to decode them. However I was able to decode 2 yesterday (ironically the 2 Not for the Seasons-like how I brought it back on topic instead of thread-jacking? B) ) so I don't know what to do. Does anyone want to try d/ling a track and see if they get the same error message?

  14. *Jeff Tweedy, Lincoln, NE >> Rococo Theater [2/18/2006]

*Wilco, Kansas City, MO >> Uptown Theater 2006 [3/21/2006]

    *Jeff Tweedy, Tulsa, OK >> Cain's Ballroom 2007 [1/19/2007]

*Wilco, Kansas City, MO >> Crossroads KC 2007 [10/13/2007]

*Wilco, Morrison, CO >> Red Rocks, 2009 [7/3/2009]

Allow me to make note that I live in Kansas City, MO - so in light of the recent threads griping about where Wilco tours, I've traveled to 3/5 shows I've attended, and I plan to always travel to see Wilco in the nearest town if they're not coming to my town [wherever that is at a given time]. You gripers will get zero sympathy from me.

    Word from Johnson County!!
