Ah-ha
ETA: I'm listening to the 4/19 set and while good I think Satisfaction is the last thing I'd want to hear coming out of space. Especially this take, Bob fucking sing for gods sake. BOBBY LET BOBSTAR SING!
better than come together and truthfully, bobs voice has gotten much weaker in the last two years
he talks verses nowadays
4/19 is really good and warren sounds a lot better than I expected. Its nice to hear fire with out Mickey rapping

Thats odd they aired that considering the dvd is in color and all cleaned up. Some of those graham videos are great, I have a CSN show from the mid seventies and midway through neil makes a surprise appearance. I heard a while back that wolfgangs vault was gonna start releasing that stuff don't know what happened there.
the DVD was 12/31/78, and the dead had previously broadcast over PBS
-
that was quick
when is the public onsale?

just bought my first GD DVD (Truckin' Up to Buffalo) and its sooo amazing! Borders had it for 50% off and i couldn't pass it up. i have a cheap little Walmart 5.1 setup and the sound is just spectacular. its really awesome seeing the camaraderie b/w the guys. after thousands of gigs, ol' Jerry still grins like its their first show. and that Cold Rain and Snow gives me chills...its beautiful.
i know there are a handful of GD DVDs out there but was just wondering if you all could recommend which one i should pick up next. thinking about the Closing of the Winterland or maybe the GD Movie.
It depends on which "era" you like
I love the View from the vault iv because it captures the time when I went to a ton of shows-only complaint is that the vid is made from the diamond vision feed and they include the psychedelic effects
the closing of winterland is fantastic
as is dead ahead (acoustic sets from Radio city)-only complaint-not a complete show, but excerpts from the week long run

Only one date confirmed
Outside lands fest in SF
Aug. 28-30
ACL is a very strong rumor as is Philly in the fall.
But nothing confirmed yet.

I've not seen Jeff fuck up that often and i've seen him solo like 8-9x now. the difference is when Jeff fucks up, he usually shrugs it off and keeps playing, Ed let's it all go to his head and often has to stop the song completely and start over or pick it back up. that to me is the diff between a good and a great solo artist, is the ability to not draw attention to their screw ups, because even the most masterful screw up on occasion.
and i guess i don't find an acoustic Lukin that great (or that song to be that great to begin with), sorry. it's fun/funny, but i've not seen Ed do anything solo acoustic that can even touch say Tweedy playing Sunken Treasure or The Lonely 1 solo.
different strokes...
I find man of the hour, all or none, and many others to be just as moving.
Ive seen Tweedy completely stop and then say aw shucks I didn't want to play that song anyway. That is not really the gauge for me, its how good the music sounds with only one person on stage, fuck ups notwithstanding.
-
if Ed was as talented of a solo performer as Tweedy was, i'd pay $60 or so, but alas.
well
they are absolutely comparable
Jeff blows the lines as well
Yes its different, but seeing EV rip "far behind" or an acoustic lukin is as good as any of the tweedy solo stuff.
Perhaps not as technically masterful, but musically outstanding just the same. If that makes sense.
-
yes the tickets are expensive
but Ed Vedd in a small venue is not to be missed IMHO
the solo shows are fantastic

I: Here Comes Sunshine, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, Alligator, Deal, Hell in a Bucket, Cream Puff War > Good Lovin
II: Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain > Drums > Space > Satisfaction > Born Cross-Eyed > Slipknot! > Let It Grow > Uncle John's Band > The Wheel > Turn On Your Lovelight
E: Samson and Delilah
looks like the best sets of the tour
by all accounts the band is rocking, but the vocal are weak
looking forward to MSG

I am in Wilmington and door to door from Philly to the stadium in Wilmington should only be about 20-25 minutes. It's really easy to find as there are plenty of signs on the highway and you can see the stadium from I95.
yes plus philly doesnt really have an outdoor venue other than the festival pier
now where is that NYC show?
-
got my tix for Philly 6/12
cant wait
EV solos shows are great and well worth the price
-
That's cool that Lemieux busted out 4/6/82 - I was thinking of posting the setlist from that show today. It's one of my favorites from Spring '82.
AND, man, how cool would it be to be at one of these shows and get a minute or two to talk with David and pick his brain? Awesome.
Since today's the 40th anniversary of 4/6/69 may I suggest busting out the tapes from that show? The "Other One" from that night is a psychedelic steamroller!
I did the Hartford shows in 4/82, my first run
great shows indeed!
My take on the current tour (about to start) is that they sound pretty good musically, but the vocals leave a LOT to be desired

I'm sorry to the person who said Beacon was depressing. It's actually a very nice little Hudson River town and I always enjoy driving up that way hugging the Hudson and just taking in the view.
I guess, if you find correctional facilities and dilapidated housing charming.
the drive is nice, and main street is trying, but its got a ways to go
I felt like I was in a David lynch movie the moment we got off the highway -the whole thing was just surreal.
-
solid show but short
I really wish those kids had started at 7 and jeff a bit earlier
I understand it was a benefit but for that price, we should have 90 minutes of tweedy
Great main set but I felt we got shorted on the encores
oh well you pay your money and take your chances, and it was still great to hear tweedy solo
And I wont be heading back to beacon any time soon
not the prettiest of towns, depressing actually
-
thanks for the link
man sony is really hyping this up
-
wow still lots of tickets left
I am surprised
must be the price, or people are hoping there will be an NYC show
-
Not sure if this is the same place as the show but here's a link to photos of the Beacon auditorium.

thanks
I am encouraged by the size of the room and the presence of the soundboard.
Thanks for the link!
