Hello all, I was there and compared to other shows I felt Osaka was a fine show. It's trivial and a bit foolish to try and compare shows from different times and different continents, but they put on a good show in Osaka. I've never heard them do anything less (I'm sure that's a compliment). There was no shortage of energy or crowd enthusiasm; Japanese folks in their early 20s were leaving the show with the same happy buzz I was. Wilco is a good rock band and the folks there recognized that. It also helped that I was about 2-deep from the stage and completely biased... all is good in

Subject says it all... I'm trying to get a single ticket to the 4.22.10 show in Osaka, Japan. Wilcoworld.net/shows doesn't provide any specifics and the google hasn't helped much either. Any ideas? -thanks in advance, mjm

Hello, I hope someone can help me... As fate would have it I'll be in Osaka on 4.22.10 and want to see Wilco while I'm there. The wilcoworld.net/shows page doesn't provide any specifics about how to get tickets and so far I've had no luck with the google. Can anyone help me here? -thanks, mjm

Yeah I know where you're coming from. The thing I noticed about the Bluegrass & Blues Fest is that it's not limited to those genres. It's far more diverse with lots of interesting folks in the crowd. And most of the musicians are easily approachable throughout the day. I'd recommend checking it out next year - there were many good, if obscure bands playing for a reasonable price ($35). And the Flecktones were really, really good. Last year the Avett Bros. headlined and they too were great. -marty Thanks. It really helps to have unfettered access to the stage. -marty

The Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival was great this year. Dr. Dog was indeed a headliner, along with the Flecktones, and they put on one hell of a show. In spite of some technical difficulties - e.g. bass amp failure - they played with lots of energy & good humor. The set was an homage to quality rock-n-roll - I really like these cats. I've attached a few pics for your enjoyment (I hope ) -later, mjm

I don't know about it being the Band's fault for playing there. Wilco has played many shows at venues with similar alcohol policies (Performing Arts Center in Madison, WI and the Auditorium in Chicago both come to mind) and the crowds were really into it. I think the big difference was that there were a lot of people being exposed to the band for the first time in Spokane and those people were less into. It's natural enough. I wouldn't read too much into whether or not they'll ever play Spokane again though... not from one show anyway.

Here are some of the Pics I got...

Wow! Lucky you (and Nic). Thanks for sharing.

Laurie, If you don't mind my asking, how do you know this was the plan?

Damn Laurie... You had really nice seats. It must have been tough taking those pics while dodging Jeff's spittle

The crowd was verrrry respectful but, I dunno... they're a rock-n-roll band from Chicago, not the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. IMO the best rock experiences come when the band and the crowd feed off one another and it ends up like a sweaty orgy of music and love between a the band and a few thousand very energetic fans. Mick: "It's OK Homer, it's only rock-n-roll fantasy camp." Homer: Ohhh, but I like it!

I had a great time and never implied that anyone had a bad time or that the crowd was bad - just very very sedate (btw - the use of the word "dumbly" in my initial review was meant to be taken literally - i.e. not talking). The point of my mini-review was to say that the show was good, and made even better by the acoustics of that room. That place is spectacular - I cannot speak for the balconies, but the sound on the floor (row R) was crisp and clean. Glen's snare sounded as though it were right next to me at times; I heard the maracas during HMD plain as day; it may have been the best so

Excellent sounding venue. The crowd needed to be prodded into doing anything other than sitting dumbly in their seats, but the acoustics of the room were wonderful. The opening run of tunes didn't do much to wind anyone up, but the music was tight and well done - Sunken Treasure was arranged a little differently than when I saw it in last and I liked it. As the night went on the crowd began to loosen up, especially before Kingpin when Jeff goaded them to pretend they were drunk and yell a little (it should be noted here that the venue does not allow consumption of alcohol inside the theater

Hello, I thought the bar scene was cool looking at the Riv so I took some pics. The quality isn't so great since I couldn't take my "professional" camera and had to use a point-&-shoot... but I think they are interesting anyway. -enjoy, marty

The band states that still photography and audio (not video) recording are cool with them. Each venue has its own rules, which usually frown upon such activities. As a result you will often get mixed responses from security - "Cameras are OK? I didn't get the memo." On Tuesday nite I tried to take my digi-SLR into the Riv. I was stopped at the door. I exclaimed "cameras are OK." After a little debate the "manager" came over and said some cameras are OK. He said "professional" cameras are not allowed. No pro in the world today would be caught using a five year old digi-rebel body, neve

And that sort of show is really really boring. The band goes through their motions, the crowd cheers, but everything about it is lame. I would suspect that playing the same songs, in the same order, every night for six months would be the definition of musical tedium. It had to have shown through in the performances. Most people who are not Wilco fans didn't understand why I would attend all five shows.. "aren't they all the same?" The expectations of popular rock/country fans are pretty low. -marty

The Dead certainly did many similar runs in the Bay area. Phish hosted multi-day festivals where they would play a hell of a lot of music. To be sure, Wilco played five amazing shows last week - I was fortunate to attend all of them. There were many many repeats (which I enjoyed) - but the aforementioned bands played entire runs with very few repeats. I'm not trying to qualify this by saying any of these bands are "better" than one another - they all have their musical charms. I'm just saying the idea of playing multiple nights in one city is no more Wilco's idea than the idea that Jeff T

Thanks ppizzle. That was certainly a detailed response, however, it doesn't really answer the questions: How many stages are there? (e.g. at Bonnaroo there are two large concert fields, two big tents, two smaller, but still big tents, and numerous other stages). How much time to the artists get? (e.g. at Bonnaroo Wilco got about 90 minutes). How many people attend this thing? (a rough estimate would be fine - more than 50K?) What is the scene like? (Are there Nazi-like security guards sneaking through the camp ground / concert venues or is it live-and-let-live?). I'm trying to decide if
