  1. It looks like I'll have an extra ticket to the MOCA show as my wife can't go. If you are interested let me know as soon as possible. I paid around $50. I will be going so we would have to meet up at the venue the day of the show. I've offered this ticket to friends but so far no takers. I live about 2 hours away from N. Adams.

Am interested. Please let me know how to get in touch with you.

  2. Great photos! Drove down from Burlington for this show and am very glad I did! You review is spot on. Deamer adds greatly to the bands overall sound - not just the Kings and In Rainbows material. Airbag, There There, and The Gloaming have all been reworked with a new sense of urgency and precision. Great show - looking forward to seeing them one more time in Montreal in a couple of weeks...

  3. For those interested, this is now on Netflix streaming.

Thanks for the tip - watched it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. It's not the most riveting music documentary ever filmed, but that clearly was not the intention. I wish there was more footage from the live shows which looked terrific. That said, I really enjoyed the piece about the differences between American rock bands and British rock bands - it was interesting... Also nice confirm that this group of stellar musicians are clearly good and nice folk!

  4. Just waking up -- terrific show last night Montreal!!! Great energy and excellent playing all around. Yes, it was new a new song party at the Metropolis last night. All of them -- at least for me -- were soooo good! It was great to hear a completely new set list which gave their show a very different groove. Absent, Impossible Germany and Jesus Etc. -- it felt like a "whole" new Wilco to me. I really dug Art of Almost (sinister), One Sunday Morning (gorgeous), and Born Alone (a new rocker is born). Throw in Shouldn't Be Ashamed, How to Fight Loneliness, and ALTWYS -- and well... a really great night.

The Metropolis is killer club with great sound. They all always seem to play excellent show here. Nick Lowe was terrific -- as others have said, don't miss his set. Boston on Tuesday and Merriweather on Sunday is next for me... Have fun kids!!!

  5. Caught their first show of the Canadian tour in Montreal on the 7th. I had not seen them since the mid-90's. Almost three hours of blistering rock n' roll! Great song selection and tremendous playing throughout. Eddie's voice is pure gold. Great gig - great time!!!

  6. Have gone through the record twice now -- mostly, I really dig it! The song sequence felt good during the second listen -- Art of Almost, Capital City and Black Moon are great. One Sunday Morning is epic in the same sense that Remember Mtn. Bed is... So psyched to see a good chunk of these songs in Boston and Montreal very soon! But first, I am gonna check out Pearl Jam in Montreal this coming week...

  7. A few of my favorites:

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense tour. Most of my concert viewing to that point had been the Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia Band so this gave me a whole new take on a concert performance.

Wilco - summer 2000. Opened with Airline and I was hooked.

Arcade Fire - Funeral tour. Opened with Wake Up and I was floored. They were all singing, even the band members without microphones.

Pixies, the Rat in Boston circa 1988. I had seen them before and liked them but wasn't blown away. Then they came out and opened with with Bone Machine.

Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs. I have seen them do this whole album twice. The opener (Absolutely Cuckoo) is fine but it was more knowing that I have 68 more songs to go (over two nights) that made it great.

I had a similar experience with the Talking Heads in 1985 from their Stop Making Sense tour -- most of my live "concert" experiences were entirely focused on the Grateful Dead and related projects -- that show in Burlington, however, changed everything for me. I think I will play me some right now... Cheers!

  8. About 150 very fortunate people turned out in the middle of nowhere inside the gorgeous Adirondack Park in Long Lake to see Martin Sexton play and sing his songs at an outdoor pavilion on a hillside as the sun set behind the mountains and the lake. Martin has a long history and association with the Adirondacks, and said it was dream come true to take his wooden trolling boat straight to a gig! He and his family have a place on the lake. This would be a night of no set lists as he said he take any and all requests that came his way. This was my first time getting to see Martin play and sing, and I have got to say that he is one of the most dynamic and awesome solo performers I have ever seen. Amazing player (all fingers, no pick) and a voice with so much range and emotion that it boggles the mind. Highlights included Beast in Me, Women and Wine, In the Journey, Where Did I Go Wrong, and countless others. He played for nearly 3 hours... I love the summer in north country!

  9. Saw Titus Andronicus last night and was totally blown away... This band really kicks ass! They played a good chunk of "The Monitor" and covered "Born To Run" and "Racism Sucks" to blistering success. I was impressed with just how tight they were, and that they were able to move from a bone crunching punk sound (small mosh pit included) to beautifully arranged country-folk-pop tunes. This was the second night of a long US tour that will take them across the country (opening for Bright Eyes on a few shows) to Coachella and back to the east coast. Go see them if they come to a town or city near you.

  10. I will also be at the Montreal show (SO EXCITED) as well as Mavis Staples. Neko Case, really??? I hadn't heard that. This is going to be the most amazing weekend of music I've had since Solid Sound!!

ps Paul, hope to see you in Montreal (your buddy Jen from Burlington)

As bbop said, this will be a great double bill with Mavis and Neko - despite the passing of Billy Bragg's mum...

For those of you that will be arriving in Montreal today or tomorrow - the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is showing "The Warrior Emperor and China's Terracotta Army" as their featured exhibit. This exhibit is getting amazing reviews - I am checking it tomorrow.

    Enjoy Montreal!

  11. Thanks for the lists and comments on the first two shows in Toronto... both sound great, but night two reads like - in the words of Charlie Sheen, "WINNING!"

I am heading up to Montreal tomorrow night and really excited! Was hoping for a Radio King and Summer Teeth, but alas, that probably won't happen... Good to that Jeff seems to be in a great mood.

On Saturday, I am seeing Mavis Staples at the Flynn in Burlington! Billy Bragg was supposed to co-headline, but his mother just passed so he is not making the trip. Instead, we are getting Neko Case which should be most excellent. Perhaps she'll join Mavis on "The Weight?!?!?!?"

Enjoy your weekend and see you all - or most of you - at Solid Sound!

  12. Fourth Row - Center for L'Olympia in Montreal!!! Very stoked for this... Enjoy whatever you're seeing this spring. There is a strong and well sourced rumor that the band is returning to Vermont to play the Green at Shelburne Museum right before the Solid Sound weekend...

  13. I took my 12 year old son up to Montreal for his birthday to see Vampire Weekend at the The Metropolis earlier this week. I have enjoyed both VW records, but this is not a band that I spend much time thinking about or listening to. That said, they were much better live than I expected them to be, and would recommend them to anyone who likes either of their two records. They were extremely tight and had a much more developed and distinctive sound than I had expected. My son has been to five Wilco shows, but this was the first band that he has seen in a club setting. He was so into the music and the surroundings - just sucking it all in. That made the experience all the better! After the requisite purchase of some VW merch - he really wanted to remember all the songs that were played. I told to go over the gentlemen at the soundboard and ask for a copy of the set list - he obliged - and now the printed list is up on the bulletin board in his room. So, here's the list

I was lucky enough to catch one of the two nights at the Granada Theatre in Sherbrooke last spring as they rolled out their new material in support of the The Suburbs. Last night in Boston, AF tore through a fantastic, frenetic, and fabulous 90 minute show that demonstrated the time off they have taken has served them very well. They are simply one of the very best live bands on the planet, and the new material is amazing live - particularly Modern Man, The Suburbs and Sprawl. I have seen them play Rebellion (lies) at almost every show I have been too, but I have never had Win Butler standing on my chair belting out the chorus at the same time directly above me - it was, well, way cool. Anyway, if they are coming your way - go see them - truly amazing. See you in N. Adams!

  15. i am so glad to hear the show was great. I just paid a lot of money for 2nd row center seats to see them in boston. August is gonna be a good month! Arcade Fire then Solid Sound!

Glad you got Boston tix - you're in for a real treat. Yes, August will be good. Solid State, My Morning Jacket and MGMT in Burlington -- a very good August.

  16. Just getting back to Burlington from last night's epic/terrific/stunning/(pick a word) Arcade Fire show in totally weird Sherbrooke, QC. I saw a post on Pitchfork about the show last Friday - clicked the attached link and was placed in the queue to purchase tickets. I bought two and called a friend and off went to Sherbrooke. A bit further from Burlington than I thought, but with a 2pm start we got there in plenty of time. Admittedly, I am big fan of this band having last seen them three or so years ago, but also lucky enough to have seen them a few times in Montreal before they blew up. This show kinda felt like the earlier shows I had seen - stripped down and heavy on the guitars! This band plays with such force and might that it is really something to behold. They looked very relaxed and were clearly digging being on stage after such a long lay off. They split show basically right down the middle - half new and half old songs. The new stuff is GREAT - more straight ahead than the last two records. The older stuff - well - still totally kicks ass!

See em this summer if they are anywhere near you...

  17. Thanks for posting the clip...

I saw them in February when they made a stop at The Monkey House in Burlington... I had been listening to North Hills for a bit and liked the record, but after seeing them live - I jumped on the bandwagon. These guys are really good and their songs are terrific. We chatted with the bass player for a while after the show and he said that they will be on the road for a good while. I see they are opening for Edward Sharpe this spring and summer.

If they come your way -- give them look and a listen.

  18. Wow - that was easy... Front Gate had their shit together this morning. Got my three and a room booked at the Holiday Inn in N. Adams which got the morning after the Boston show. Got the third ticket for a friend who is coming from South Africa!!! Now, get some gas in the car and get on the road to Hartford. Feel caught on my sleep after Boston and Concord... Enjoy and see you in August!
