  1. Just back in Burlington from Boston and Concord -- had a terrific time at both shows. Agree with much of what has been said in this thread. Boston was clearly ready for some Wilco as the city had not had a "proper" show in a few years. The energy was palpable from the Price is Right intro all the way to the end of the show -- much like the Montrel show in February. I think there were some folks in Concord who were less familiar with the band, but from my seat it was all good for the entire show. It was great to not have to deal with sit down/stand up thing at either of these two shows!

I was quite stoked that Jeff decided to play my request last night -- I am the guy that requested Why Would You Wanna Live and received a nice gift certificate to the Concord Co-Op for the effort. I love this song and had not seen it since '02 - I think??? Anyway, it was a nice little moment during the show when I walked to the stage to get my "prize" and thanked Jeff for playing my request. He asked how it sounded -- I said, "terrific!" -- and for those who were there, I think they would all agree. The Cars Can't Escape to follow was just icing at that point...

Working today -- off to Hartford in the morning -- then I will wait along with most of you for the three day event in W. MA in mid-August...

  2. So pumped for this show in my hometown! So, my buddy has been contacted by the Center regarding a ticket upgrade. We have tickets in the forth row to the side, but now because Wilco has too much stuff onstage, we are now being moved to much better seats! This is why I love seeing shows at this place, the people there take music seriously and want you to have the best possible experience. My first show ever was at the Center seeing Joan Jett and Cheap Trick double bill back in 1982, take it for what its worth. Dark Star, Yes, Feist and others have made for memorable times for sure. FYI, if there is no parking on the street, park next door at St. John's Catholic Church for free, entrance is in the back.

    Thanks for the parking tip!

  3. Heading to Boston as well... also will be in Concord and Hartford. Been watching the set lists -- looks like lots of fun for all!!! Also, it appears that some sweet (and early) spring weather will be setting in for New England which will be nice. The end of March/early April usually sucks -- so it will be nice to be able to enjoy Boston on warm and sunny spring day.

  4. I think Funeral is pretty damn untouchable as a record. I can't get into Neon Bible 'cause of the production. And, it's hard to see anything else Arcade Fire does get anywhere close to Funeral. That being said, I'm excited for this record.

Agreed! Funeral is almost a perfect record. I love Neon Bible, but it doesn't touch Funeral in my view...

Being from the North Country (Burlington, VT) -- I have seen these folks a few times at La Sala Rosa in Montreal in 04 and 05 before they really hit it big. An amazing live band...

  5. My parents ran one of the very few elementary boarding schools in the country during the 70's and 80's. The North Country School in Lake Placid, NY is a progressive school with a top notch academic program. In addition, the school sits on 450 acres of beautiful land in the heart of the Adirondacks and has a full scale farm and garden operation that provides almost all of the food for staff and children.

In the early and middle 70's, Matthew Salinger (JD's only son) was a student at NCS. JD would come to the campus three or four times a year to visit Matthew and spend time with the students. It is widely known that he strongly prefered speding time with kids rather than adults. My youngest brother was 4 or 5 at the time, and JD would walk around the school with brother on his shoulders. My mother - who taught 7th and 8th grade English - was teaching "Catcher" to her 8th grade class one day (Matthew was one her students) and in walks JD who pulled up chair and joined the discussion about his book with my mothers' 8th grade students. She loves to tell this story because he was so generous and warm with the kids. He listened as they discussed his book and would provide feedback and thoughtful ideas that moved the discussion of the book into uncharted territories. My mother has told me that it was like being a part of a graduate seminar with none of the bullshit. The students didn't care much that he had written the book - and he knew they didn't care. He told my mother after the class that he was excited she was teaching the book, and listening to the kids discuss it was a complete thrill for him.

He may have been recluse for most of his adult life, but this small story shows that there was a lot more to him than that.

    RIP.

  6. (Sad about Massachusetts today, so felt like designing a couple of polls where I'll be happy with the outcome, regardless.)

Love this!!! Now, we have to live the mess that MA has created. Gridlock beyond belief...

  7. Sounds like they're going to play longer (perhaps close to 3 hours, but with breaks) and mix up the set lists more. I'm looking for something kind of like the Residency shows, but probably not quite as long or as many true rarities.

I suppose they might do the whole-album thing, but I kind of hope they don't. I like the surprises of a broad selection, like the Residency and post-residency shows.

Oh, and I hope they bring the Total Pros, too. Horns are cool.

Yes, bring back the Total Pros!!!

  8. Oh man, the last show there was so much fun! And I didn't even check out the museum! The soundcheck alone was worth the price of admission...

I agree. The show was terrrifc and the venue totally kicks ass! They only do four shows each summer at this site - they should do double that. For me, the soundcheck was the highlight of the day! Just kicking back with 30/40 or so folks at the soundboard watching them rip through In A Future Age and Muzzle of Bees was amazing. Here's hoping the rumor becomes reality.

  9. Whoa!!!

What an exhausting experience. Got two 6th row seats for Concord which is great, and then was shut out for Boston for a while. So, I gave up... At about 10:55 -- I tried again and pulled 2 for Row H/Orhestra at the Orpheum. Go figure...

I agree with an earlier post that a mail order program is a better and fairer way to do this...

Anyhow, I am totally psyched for Quebec City and Montreal in February and Boston and Concord in April. Also hearing rumors here in Burlington (where Higher Ground is based) that the band will play the Green at Shelburne Museuem again in late June!

    Enjoy the shows everyone.

  10. Kalle:

If you can make a weekend of it -- you should. I love a Saturday night GA show! Montreal is an outstanding city with tons of great things to do and see. Even though the Canadian dollar and the US dollar are equal right now -- it's a very cheap time of year to stay in the city. You can a great room in a killer part of town for no more than $120 -- lots on the lower end as well.

    Enjoy...

  11. This is an excellent venue -- yes, they do remove the seats for GA shows! It sounds a lot better than The Metropolis (which doesn't sound that bad) and is far this congested and stuffy if they don't over sell the show. Great location - easy access from the Metro and all things in downtown Montreal. Well worth the road trip for this show... The bands' last two shows at Metropolis were both excellent - they seem to enjoy the Montreal crowd very much.

  12. Well...

I don't think I will ever attend another ballpark-style show again. The set up is pretty unforgiving and creates a real disconnection with band and the music. The sound in bleachers was close to terrible, and though it was better up front, I was only okay. The large space created with the entire infield open is just plain weird and not satisfying. I have heard the band really fill up (with their sound) large places like Merriweather Post Pav, City Hall Park in NOLA, and Red Rocks. They were able to make those bigger venues fell smaller and intimate. I know they enjoy playing new places and different venues, but if they want to play larger spaces in the summer -- they should stick with some of the older sheds like SPAC, Tanglewood, Mann Music Center etc...

It was fun to to finally hear some of the new stuff. Deeper Down is a total keeper, and One Wing is terrific. Despite the overall issues with the venue and sound - I thought they pulled off ALTWYS, Via, Nothing'sever, and IATTBYH well.

Really looking forward to heading to Portland on Friday. This will be a much smaller and totally gorgeous small city setting with the Casco Bay as the backdrop. It the weather holds - it should be an amazing night.

  13. Really loving this record a lot - one of the best of the year in my view...

Seeing them in Montreal at Le Nacional on June 4th. Very excited to check out there live show and see if the arrangements and vocals hold up as well as they do on the record.

  14. I love this show:

    Toad's Place

    New Haven, CT

    9/16/00

This is simply a terrific ROCK SHOW! Jay is on fire throughout and the show really demonstrates what an amazinf live player her was...

  15. Front Gate is handling tix for all Wilco shows moving forward -- Front Gate also handles all Higher Ground ticketing as well. FG is way better than Music Today...

Looking forward to the Lowell and Portland shows for sure - hope to make the Wolf Trap show as well.
