  1. Guys you got the analogy wrong. The baby has already been born, but we haven't been invited to see her yet. (yes the whole love is a girl). We are still waiting on an invite to see her. While we've been given a definite date, no doubt we would like to beat the crowds and meet her a little earlier.

To stretch the analogy to breaking point......I had the scan at five months (it is a boy!)and it was one ugly looking lump.

  2. I waited 9 months for my children to be born. I can hold out another month.

I waited nine months for my first child to be born, then waited another eleven days, and then had to see him pulled out back to front kicking and screaming.

Hopefully not an omen for this record. I'll nick a quick listen if it appears early.

  3. Here it is!!

Bad As Me is Tom Waits’ first studio album of all new music in seven years. This pivotal work refines the music that has come before and signals a new direction. Waits, in possibly the finest voice of his career, worked with a veteran team of gifted musicians and longtime co-writer/producer Kathleen Brennan. From the opening horn-fueled chug of “Chicago,” to the closing barroom chorale of “New Year’s Eve,” Bad As Me displays the full career range of Waits’ songwriting, from beautiful ballads like “Last Leaf,” to the avant cinematic soundscape of “Hell Broke Luce,” a battlefront dispatch. On tracks like “Talking at the Same Time,” Waits shows off a supple falsetto, while on blues burners like “Raised Right Men” and the gospel tinged “Satisfied” he spits, stutters and howls. Like a good boxer, these songs are lean and mean, with strong hooks and tight running times. A pervasive sense of players delighting in each other’s musical company brings a feeling of loose joy even to the album’s saddest songs.

Very exciting. There is a two-disc version with a few bonus tracks. Can't Wait for this record.

Tom Waits Sets the Rumors Straight

    Tuesday August 16, 2011

There have been rumblings and rumors. New music, you say? Come to TomWaits.com on Tuesday August 23rd, and Mr. Waits himself will set the record straight.

That sounds promising. This and the new wilco teaser have me ticking over nicely.

Look like the David Lynch record is imminent. He had a single out last year which was surprisingly good. I liked the stuff he did with the Mark Linkous/Dangermouse project so this could be interesting. The man knows good music as evidenced by the quality of the soundtracks that have accompanied his films

A great title for a record aswell.

  6. I listen to a fair bit of Hip-Hop. 'The Roots' are as good as anyone out there at the moment, and have been for a good while. A great group. Still listening to Mos Def/Talib Kweli/Common and those guys. 'Train of Thought', the album Kweli did with Hi-Tek is an all time classic, in any genre. I still listen to artists like 'Tricky' for something a bit darker. His last album I really enjoyed.

  7. Apologees in advance as I've had a couple of glasses of Red but.....damm Van Morrison has made some great albums. I'm sitting here in my garden listening to 'Veedon Fleece' with a bottle of wine and a pair of headphones. That album, especially side one, gives me goosebumps it's so good. Gonna stick on 'into the music' in a minute which is almost as good. Any love for Van the Man out there today?

  8. This is probably not the coolest one but....when I was a kid the first show I saw was Aerosmith. They opening with 'Rats in the Cellar'. There was a curtain up across the stage and you could just see silouettes of the band. The curtain came down and Tyler leapt out. I was only about twelve at the time and it blew my little mind. For this reason I'll always stick up for Aerosmith.

  9. I'm enjoying the Mercury Rev 'Deserter's Songs' deluxe edition. The bonus disc is interesting but it is nice to hear the album remastered and sounding even more beautiful than ever.

Looking forward to the two-disc 'Sophtware Slump' that is out in a few weeks. Hopefully Grandaddy will, if the interest is high, do this with their other records as they always had tons of b-sides etc kicking around.

....and what would Cobain feel about the idea of the super-deluxe four disc edition of Nevermind. Not much.

  10. I was listening to the Jenny Lewis record 'Rabbit Fur Coat' last night. In one song she states that her dad started growing 'Bob Dylan's Beard'. Is this directly attributed to the Wilco track or is 'Growing Bob Dylan's beard'a more commonly used phrase. I take it to mean that time when a man takes a step back from the stresses of life and retreats to his shed for some downtime.

Are there any other references to the great man's facial hair?

  11. Yay it's still listed on the venue site... so here's hoping. No repeat of 07 cancellations please!

I'd did the same thing last night and checked the Academy site......and similarly missed out in 2007. Would be gutted if this one is cancelled but I'm sure it is just an oversight.
