  1. I'm glad you have a great sense of humor about it (given how you have responded to the majority of the posts being playful and only a few giving you actual, practical advice). Kudos for wanting to become more assertive, which is really the key here, because no matter how this scenario plays out with your current (or soon-to-be former) roommate, if you don't change to some degree, the same scenario is probably going to surface again at a later time with a different person.

Personally, I'd compile all the logical and rationale reasons of why you have to directly address this with her (liability, trust, boundaries, parents, and others that have been mentioned here) and tell them to her. From my perspective, at this point, it's more about you gaining peace of mind than it is about how she'll respond. It sounds like you are a very accomodating and generous person, so I'm not concerned about you bullying her or speaking to her in a condescending manner. Your roommate doesn't sound mean or uncaring or rude per se. Rather, she sounds like the majority of people I know who just needs others to define the boundaries and point out when they've been crossed. Perhaps I'm reading her wrong (perhaps I'm reading you wrong).

If she's a friend worth keeping (and to her, if you're a friend worth keeping), she'll be more concerned about your anxiety and peace of mind than her own pride if it's hurt. She may get defensive (most of us do as a natural, immediate reaction), but allow her to hopefully gain your perspective over a day or two if that's her first gut reaction. If after that, things seem weird, awkward or she's hurt, revisit the issue and allow her to speak her peace. Depending on how she responds, you may have to revoke all of her driving privileges, which at that point (as others have pointed out), I'd probably be looking for different living arrangements.

It's a tough call when one party has overstepped reasonable boundaries but the other party is passive. I hope it works itself out well and you become more assertive and confident in the process.

    Blessings.

Overall, I thought it was a great year in music. There are a few on the list that may technically have been released in 2006, but hopefully I can be forgiven if they didn't cross my path until this year.

  3. In case anyone's wondering, I went with:

The best song will never get sung

The best life never leaves your lungs

So good you won't ever know

You can't hear it on the radio

Because I liked it too much. I really do appreciate everyone's opinion though, it helped.

I can't believe one of my recommendations was picked (although I think I listed 8-9 different quotes).

    Good choice

  4. Am I the only one who cannot understand why they included I'm the Man Who Loves You over other songs? The pace may seem funkier, but I thought it wasn't up to par with the rest of the broadcast. For me, I can't remember Sky Blue Sky sounding this good live. I also was touched by On and On and On.

  5. So many to choose from. I think most if not all that have been mentioned are good choices. However, looking back, I wish my senior quote had more playfulness and less earnestness or melodramatic implications. So many quotes tried to be too profound. I wish my senior quote (and most quotes) could incorporate both poetry with a little sense of humor and less taking oneself too seriously. Take that with a grain of salt. With that, here are a couple from Jeff that I think have some lightheartedness as well as creativity, or some perhaps less profound but appropriate nonetheless

    1. Everybody has to do something they don't wanna do ... everybody has to grow up, let's have some fun.

    2. It's O.K. for you to say what you want from me. I believe that's the only way for me to be exactly what you want me to be.

    3. All my daydreams are disasters.

    4. Republicans and Democrats can't give you the facts. Your parents won't tell you 'til you're grown. That every star that shines in the back of your mind is just waiting for its cover to be blown.

    5. The best songs will never get sung. The best life never leaves your lungs. So good you won't ever know. You can't hear it on the radio. You can't hear it on the radio.

    6. With the sky blue sky, this rotten time wouldn't seem so bad to me now. Oh, if I didn't die, I should be satisfied. I survived, that's good enough for now (ok, so this one is a little dramatic).

  6. My bad.

That was the first time I ever copied any webcast. Hopefully keeprighton will put his up...

You should only receive thanks from the community. I know that my ample supply of Wilco music comes courtesy of those who have the knowledge and take the time to capture it and upload it. I also hope that keeprighton2 is able to upload the entire stream in an uncompressed format. However, I want to personally send thanks to both SarahC and keeprighton2 for their graciousness and generosity. I hope our VC community never takes it for granted. I have a good feeling it never will lose the generous spirit of community and sharing.

  7. Ever since I got Moondance from BMG music club back in high school, he has been consistently one of my top 5 artists of all-time. I have close to two dozen of his shows spread out mostly throughout the 70's but also some from the last 15 years.

    love me some van.

  8. DMB have written some great and god-awful songs. I really believe there is a lot of talent in the band, they just don't execute a plan that plays up to their strengths.

#1. Their music has moved from rootsy jam groove to polished, overproduced MOR music. Bad idea.

#2. Dave has got to reign in on his vocal tics and wailing (or whatever you want to call it).

#3. The lyrics have to have some emotional attachment to the band. The Lillywhite Sessions (Busted Stuff) was their best album, and lyrically Dave's most naked. It actually had some weight behind his lyrics.

#4. Dave & Tim alone with stripped down arrangements is a great idea. Dave & Tim doing a song in 9-12 minutes is not a great idea. Too much meandering.

I think if DMB did a stripped down, mostly acoustic album, maybe of old spirituals or something dealing with elements other than partying and sex, they might surprise a lot of people.

Big-Eyed Fish, Bartender, Grace Is Gone, Crush, Save Me ... I do believe they are capable of writing and creating solid music. It just seems they are more miss than hit. Too bad.
