Thank you for that point -- and her!

Where were you when they were reporting on Walter Reed? (EDIT: Alright you've been pretty beat up about this already) That's one that amazes me; how Bush & Co. cut military benefits -- death benefits -- changed the rules regarding reservists midstream, cut family benefits and yet they they are pro military? Our soldiers could use some body armor from the Republicans.

I was referring more to the later part of the post beyond the bullets.

That makes sense. We have met the enemy and it is us.

If you believe this to be true -- that he is deserved of "ripping", why would you feel the need to defend him? What value is there -- for your own benefit or the Republican party or the greater good -- to support him and the policies -- McCain is 90%, as they say, in support of? You bring great value in your viewpoints to counter an obvious left focus here, but this is a weird contradiction. True and true. The Democratic party fails to realize that, if it could collect itself, it would be "the man." Then it would turn upon itself.

Wow ... this is worth a bump ...

There was a story recently of how McCain's "handlers" are trying to vet his message on the "straight talk express." He does shoot from the hip, which is refreshing. This election could use some unscripted debate, it might actually lead to some substance.

Actually, McCain looks like Gidget's father on the TV series back in the day.

My senior HS daughter is interning with the campaign. She's considering political science and I told her, regardless of who you consider, this experience comes around only once every four years. She is barreling into it, so it's good to see. I've worked hard in the last several elections (was a pollster for my first few), but I just don't have the commitment to one candidate or cause this time around.

A new McCain ad, entitled "Executive plans" has this to say ....

Great post. Thank you for this point.

Hey, that's a decent answer.

Well, I'd say good luck in attempting to control, given the impact of peer pressure and the media. You could try to shield her by moving to some remote area, say Alas ... k ... Good luck.

Don't ask for a show of hands at your local high school.

After 19 pages, I thought it was doctrine.

This is an over simplification, but isn't this election, at it's heart, a culture war? Family values, protectionism, free trade, personal debt, loss of the middle class?
-
Considering one of her primary values to the campaign (remember, experience is off-limits) is her "family values," and appeal to Christian conservatives (and, physicially, to Jules), then her family values and teachings of abstinence over birth control and abortion is circumspect.

The party promoting the good judgment of having the baby, but ignoring the judgment that created the situation. You can't have it both ways, but you sure as hell can try.

I'm still surprised that the Keating Five is barely even mentioned about McCain's past, and then only a footnote -- something he was liberated from like his POW confinement. One can say it was nearly 20 years ago, but that is still far more recent than his POW experience.

Don't forget "baby mama." That has an interesting ring to it all of a sudden ...

It's noble of Obama to say that "people's familiaes are off limits. And people's children are especially off limits." I was trying to think back of presidential candidates who had children -- or at least those younger than 18 -- who couldn't defend themselves in the public spotlight. Beyond JFK, I could only think of Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton. The former was attacked and ridiculed to no end, and *was* a child. So the right had better be careful about pot kettle black.

I think for most people, that goes without saying. Else the red and blue mindset wouldn't have become such a cliche.
