  1. I always find it interesting when quizzes like this are posted here and everyone does staggeringly better than the average score. Not just quizzes that are supposed to test specific areas of knowledge, but even things like the color recognition test. Are the frequent posters of VC really that extraordinary? Or do people only take the tests if they think they'll do well? (And then only post about it if they do?) Probably a combination.

    8/33

(I actually only knew 5, guessed at the others)

Excuses? I'm Canadian & didn't take American Civics in school.

Sadly, I don't think I'd do that much better at a Canadian history/government quiz...

  2. I've had a few days with this release now, and I can't stop playing it. The first spin was a bit of a head scratcher. I didn't really get it and felt below par. But something clicked and now I love it.

I'm still waiting for it to click... you shouldn't have to try to like an album, it should just happen, right?

You just can't beat American Water, it's almost perfect.

(or maybe my love of Malkmus makes me biased?)

  3. Wilco actually...

I loved "Outtasite" when I first heard it, was in '95 or '96? so grade 11 or 12. Bought the cd, but was disappointed & gave it to a boyfriend at the time.

I don't know why I didn't like BT, I listen to Misunderstood or Sunken Treasure now & wonder how come 17 yr old me didn't like it?

Didn't start listening to Wilco again until a few years ago.

Funny, BT is one of my favorites now.

  4. This affects us here in Canada too.

My husband "works" for Chrysler, has been laid off (yes, still making 85% of his salary) since March. It has been like this on & off for 10 years. He does not expect to be called back this time.

We live outside a city (Oshawa) who is primarily employed by GM (either directly, or indirectly- feeder plants). If GM closes in Oshawa, it will be a ghost town. I have a relative who sells pooltables in Oshawa, she will probably lose her business...

the trickle down effect is very scary indeed.

  5. I like that we can have twangy Wilco and poppy Wilco and noisy Wilco. It keeps things interesting, especially with how much they've dug into the back catalogue this year.

I agree, there is a Wilco sound for everyone.

The order of the albums very often changes for me.

Currently AGIB & BT top the list, but for the longest time was YHF & ST

AM & SBS are my least favorite, but I do love quite a few songs on each.

  6. I hope for something along the lines of AGIB. SBS seriously lacked the density and power of the last few albums. Say what you will, but SBS and AM battle it out for the low spot in Wilco albums.

    I totally agree.

I really love half of SBS, but the other half, meh.
