Each one of these songs brings me to a painful time in my life & makes me well up without fail:
Almost Blue - Elvis Costello
The Drugs Don't Work - the Verve
In September - Hayden

It's not as good as his best, but it's still better than most.
yes, I so agree.

I've had a few days with this release now, and I can't stop playing it. The first spin was a bit of a head scratcher. I didn't really get it and felt below par. But something clicked and now I love it.
I'm still waiting for it to click... you shouldn't have to try to like an album, it should just happen, right?
You just can't beat American Water, it's almost perfect.
(or maybe my love of Malkmus makes me biased?)

Wilco actually...
I loved "Outtasite" when I first heard it, was in '95 or '96? so grade 11 or 12. Bought the cd, but was disappointed & gave it to a boyfriend at the time.
I don't know why I didn't like BT, I listen to Misunderstood or Sunken Treasure now & wonder how come 17 yr old me didn't like it?
Didn't start listening to Wilco again until a few years ago.
Funny, BT is one of my favorites now.

I'm loving True Blood. I played sick from work yesterday & watched episodes 5-11.
(Six Feet Under was amazing til the end, the final episode wrapped everything up so perfectly.)
Californication season 1 was great.

This affects us here in Canada too.
My husband "works" for Chrysler, has been laid off (yes, still making 85% of his salary) since March. It has been like this on & off for 10 years. He does not expect to be called back this time.
We live outside a city (Oshawa) who is primarily employed by GM (either directly, or indirectly- feeder plants). If GM closes in Oshawa, it will be a ghost town. I have a relative who sells pooltables in Oshawa, she will probably lose her business...
the trickle down effect is very scary indeed.

my 9 yr old son loves "Jaws" & "Starwars" ... he knows all the great lines by heart.

congrats!
from a Canadian who loves Obama
-
I was "Tina Fey as Sarah Palin".
-
front row for Stephen Malkmus this summer

I like that we can have twangy Wilco and poppy Wilco and noisy Wilco. It keeps things interesting, especially with how much they've dug into the back catalogue this year.
I agree, there is a Wilco sound for everyone.
The order of the albums very often changes for me.
Currently AGIB & BT top the list, but for the longest time was YHF & ST
AM & SBS are my least favorite, but I do love quite a few songs on each.

I really love that I Must Be High video.
I haven't seen this one either... damn Canada, I can't view the video outside US.
-
thanks! I haven't seen "Shot in the Arm" before.
-
Random rules - Silver Jews (also has the best 1st line)
-
ok, so this is not really "Wilco .. out & about", but I was watching kids shows with my son yesterday morning & Billy Bragg was on playing "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key" to a crazy lobster-ish puppet.
just found it on youtube

Uncle Tupelo - Gun
Twedy hasn't really ever written something with such fine-tuned angst since.
I love Jeff's solo "Gun"

my husband & I were in Chicago this summer for our Honeymoon. We instantly fell in love with the city.
We did alot of tourist-y stuff, but as you noted Louie, there is so much more to check out. We will definitely be back.
Also, seeing the buildings from YHF cover was pretty special to me (sorry, don't know what they are actually called)

"Rise up with Fists" by Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins
it's such a departure from what I usually listen to, but it's so good, I listen to it over & over
-
I'm ISTJ too
-
I do tend to skip:
I got you
Walkin
Shake it off
Heavy metal drummer

I hope for something along the lines of AGIB. SBS seriously lacked the density and power of the last few albums. Say what you will, but SBS and AM battle it out for the low spot in Wilco albums.
I totally agree.
I really love half of SBS, but the other half, meh.
(American) Civic Literacy Quiz
in Tongue-Tied Lightning

8/33
(I actually only knew 5, guessed at the others)
Excuses? I'm Canadian & didn't take American Civics in school.
Sadly, I don't think I'd do that much better at a Canadian history/government quiz...
