  1. I was in the bookstore at lunch, and saw this:

I can't remember the last Susan Isaacs book I read, but there was a point, up until fairly recently, when I had read them all. For a long time her books were my favorite guilty pleasure. I don't know how many I've missed in the years since I stopped picking them up the minute they hit the shelves, but I think it might be past time for a little mental vacation with a few of these. :yes

Kate, I haven't finished Assassination Vacation yet, but it's... pretty good. Definitely lightweight. She's got some interesting insights, and a few laugh-out-loud lines, but nothing that's particularly sticking with me, or making me want to go back and check out her other books. I like her on the radio (despite the annoying voice [not that I have room to talk :ermm ]), and I think I was expecting to like her more in a longer format, but... meh.

  2. Oh yay! Thanks!

The yellow flowers one was great! Yours will probably end up winning the grand prize...didn't they use it in a mass email...?

And thanks to you, too! Yeah, mine was in one of the e-mails, which of course I forwarded to everyone in my address book :blush (well, everyone except those people who would have gotten that e-mail anyway :lol ). There are so many cool pictures, though. I'd forgotten how much I like this one, too:

  3. i had the one with me and casinoqueen (morgan) on a ferris wheel. i guess they were kind of desperate because you could barely tell that it was even a wilco shirt.

I liked that one, too. It didn't look posed, just two friends having fun... and one of them is wearing a Wilco shirt! :w00t I've got a few more that I might send in, but I don't know if they're doing another round or not.

  4. Hello All-

I was just wondering if any of you won the photo contest on the band's website? If so, have you received your autographed poster...? What does it look like? I am just beginning to get anxious. It has been several weeks & nothing has arrived as of yet...

I got an e-mail on 7/25 asking for my mailing address, and letting me know that it would take about 4 weeks. Since we're only 3 weeks in now, I'm not too worried yet. I think kidsmoke's probably right though, it'll arrive eventually, so I'm not going to knock myself out looking for it.

Luka, which picture did you take? :)

Oh, and OTM, yeah, you deserve to win it with that one! :lol

  5. In other news, as of today......I have officially quit drinking sugary mocha/lattes/etc......I had something similar, but it was a powdery mix I added to a cup of coffee at work. It's okay, but not the same.

    That's good stuff.

  6. "The Great Influenza" (reading it now)

Infectious-disease non-fiction is one of my favorite things, but this one just didn't do it for me for some reason. :hmm

"King Dork" (audio book, which I need to import to iTunes, stat).

Ooh, this one's on my list too! (the book book though, not the audio book) Let me know if it's any good. And then, send me your pop punk mix. :monkey

    Just finished:

It's now pretty much official, I don't really enjoy reading Dave Eggers' books. I like the idea of Dave Eggers' books, and I love what he's done with McSweeney's, 826 Valencia, etc., but I just really really don't like the books. I've tried. Seriously.

    Now reading:

For the book club. Also, it's a palate-cleansing read, before I dive into:

Jahilia, you said this book would be a commitment, which I'm totally up for, but what I might not be prepared for is carrying this thing around with me on the bus. It's huge!

  7. butterfly

Sarah, pretty! I've got a great butterfly picture that I took just about a year ago, which I'm going to have to retrieve from my laptop one of these days to post as a companion to yours.

This morning we rescued a hummingbird that had gotten inside the birth center and couldn't get out. At first I thought it was one of those giant freaky bugs they have around here, like a cockroach or something, until I realized it had feathers and a tail...

I love those giant freaky bugs (well, in theory anyway, not so much up close and personal), especially the flying ones! Missing links. :monkey
