I'm going to see them at the Charlottesville show in April, needless to say I'm pretty excited.

Okay, I have to relay this story (if I haven't somewhere, already):

Where I went to H.S. we had an every-other-year event called "Focus On The Arts", where people who made their living in the arts came to speak to the students about what they did. And, sometimes to perform.

 

Now, Milwaukee is only about an hour from my childhood suburb, and Brian Ritchie came down to perform and have a moderated conversation with a group of students. I was lucky enough to score tickets to the dialogue.

 

Brian ambled into the room, with about 35 students in attendance, and 3 teachers. He was amicable and took all the questions with a smile, and gave very thoughtful answers to all. Then the question came that all the teachers had been dreading:

"What about drugs? Are there a lot of drugs around when you're on the road, and stuff?"

 

(Keep in mind, this was in the middle of the Reagan, "Just Say No" 80's.)

 

He thought about it and said something like:

"Of course they're out there. And I'm not going to tell you NOT to do anything like that, because that would be hypocritical of me. Yeah, they're there and I've done some stuff. But the bottom line is, it's NOT good for you and I would probably be better off had I not done a lot of what I've done.

"You just have to know what you're getting into and be smart about it. The best choice, of course, would be to not do anything like that. But, ultimately, it's your choice. And you just have to make a good one."

 

The teachers were aghast; you could see that all of their jaws had dropped. But all the students were nodding thoughtfully, finally finding somebody that didn't just spout the usual bullshit about "Just Say No".

 

I've always loved the Femmes, but since that day, I have a whole new respect for them.

I've been excited for the new album ever since they played Wilco the Song on the Colbert Report, but this is awesome.

just started listening to Black Flag. some songs seem kinda silly but i'm sure they were hardcore rebellious back in the day. that TV Party song is a trip.

Good stuff. If you like Black Flag you might also like Husker Du.

Well I'll be getting Down With Wilco then. I'll probably get something else from that sale, does anyone have any suggestions?

Is Down With Wilco any good? Or should I get it just for the sake of being a completionist.

Re: no one can accurately guess what the album will sound like. The only thing we do know is one Wilco album has never sounded all that much like its predecessor.

Maybe they'll fool everyone and release an album that sounds exactly like Sky Blue Sky.

I wonder if there will be a "Deluxe 2 DVD Edition" that has extra concert footage.

There was a two DVD version with IATTBYH that had additional live footage and its not uncommon with concert DVDs.

Maybe, just maybe..

Earlier on the site they did have something about a deluxe version but they've since taken it down.

What songs did they play?

I still hate "What Light" and don't love "Walken," but love the rest of the album.

I have to say Walken is one of my favorite songs on the album (the live version is just awesome), What Light is just okay.

I cringed when I saw the banner for it on iTunes. It wasn't as bad as I thought but it's good in the sense that it's introducing Dylan to a new generation of fans

It's no Summerteeth but it's a solid album. I like it a lot.

Great find, though I guess this means they miss their March deadline. I guess we won't see the new album until the summer at least then.

I'd like to see some Jay + Jeff acoustic tours. Maybe a little piano + guitars, just the two of them. There are times that I would love Jay back and times that I'm really happy with the current line-up.

It's my favorite Wilco album.

Though Being There is a very close second.

Yeah, unfortunately, album artwork isn't necessarily a very good indicator of the quality of an album.

Are you saying the artwork was bad, or the album wasn't very good?

Interesting, on the website for the dvd, when you hold your mouse over the signup for the mailing list it says 'Pre-Order Deluxe.' I wonder what kind of extras the Deluxe Version will have.

Lol, I guessed I missed that. Looks like Just A Kid might make the DVD then.

Mobile, New Orleans, and D.C. are also included. Though people have pointed out that Ashes wasn't on those setlists either.

 

There was a guy with a handheld camera in Des Moines, but that was not one of the shows mentioned.

Where does it say that New Orleans and DC are included, everywhere that I've checked said only the shows from Ryman's Auditorium and Cain's Ballroom would be shown.
