  1. 1) I "married in" - my husband was quite shocked and upset that I hadn't heard of them before - this was when we first started dating in 1999. He first heard of them through a friend and a little known concert they did at Marble Mountain in Newfoundland in the late 90's. I continue to campaign for Wilco's return to the Rock!

    2) I really never like to talk about my first Wilco concert because it never happened. After hearing them for years in the background, in the car etc... I really began to take a liking to their music (so much so, if you read previous posts, my husband was like - you need to find a new band.) Anyhow, they came to Edmonton for the first time (?) in 2005. My daughter was not quite yet 2, but already quite the little Wilco fan. We had the tickets purchased and the baby-sitter arranged and were really looking forward to that rare night out to ourselves - when the baby-sitter cancelled at the last minute. (For the record, and not to get her in trouble, it was my s-i-l, and one of her kids had gotten sick... ) Since, we didn't feel comfortable leaving our daughter with anyone else, I graciously told my husband to give my ticket to his other brother (who ended up having his very first concert experience) as long as he didn't tell me any details. Here is the kicker - I was three weeks pregnant with my second child (a boy) when this transpired. I wasn't experiencing any physical symptoms that early in the pregnancy, just full-blown emotions. I would cry at the drop of a hat! So when I gave my brother-in-law my ticket the tears were just streaming down my face. I couldn't even talk about the whole thing until about 3 years afterwards (without crying) - damn hormones. What didn't help is that when my husband got home that night I told him that he had better say that it was the worst concert he had ever been to - but alas - it was one of the best... could've killed him... What did help was taking my daughter, then 5 and a half, to her first Wilco concert last Feb - front row center seats and having Jeff mentioning that this was their third time playing in Edmonton and that we were now bringing pint sized people to the show (I just assume he was talking about my daughter and not me...) My husband, the same brother and a co-worker of his ended up back in row k. BURN!!

  2. Alright - here's the deal - I had to work the first 2 games (Van won) - was off and watched the next 2 games (Bos won) - was working the next one (Van won) and was off and watched the last one (Bos won)...

so it looks as if it is all down to whether I work tomorrow or not...

    and I don't!

    Congrats Boston!

  3. Geez - I work in a grocery store and would sincerely love to hear Wilco play during one of my shifts - it's mainly obscure 60's, main stream 70's and 80's, and then Celine Dion...

That being said, I don't know what reaching grocery store background noise status means to ones musical career - maybe I'm glad I haven't heard them at work yet...

  4. Awesome! I am happy to report that his obsession has since moved to digging for worms in Mommy's garden. (Great!) We have always let the kids watch movies and play with toys that are above their age recommendation. We have always explained to them that movies aren't real. Hence, they thought Army of Darkness was the funniest thing ever. It was just so cute when a neighbours child came over to watch a movie one afternoon and my then 5 year old said "Now remember, movies aren't real. Music is real!" Would have brought a tear to her fathers eye!

  5. This is patter of tiny step in correct direction for sure my friend and shows influence of the Abba as understood by all (especially yellow cat of the Lady Frida). Embroidery is fine art for the time of contemplate and all those who want to have saving nine times over should make the stitch, as we say in Sweden. But when fierce beam of super trouper is sweeping stage, there is no impact that can be made like that of sequin! This is as stated in fine song which we have the familiarity. Here lies fast track to chart success. Believe!

    Welfare!

There are always assless chaps, my friend!

  6. I know I am lucky to have him addicted to Star Wars - trust me - it was Jurassic Park 5 times a day before. I was happy to transfer the obsession elsewhere. His birthday was in March and we had rented Empire before, so I asked his uncle to get him the trilogy. This was after much debate, as we weren't sure to start him off at the beginning or with episode 4 like when we were kids. (Am I really that old.. ) So he got the "first" trilogy for his birthday and a re-release of a Snow Speeder. He always had this unique way of referring to things, for example, the "At-At"'s (I apologize to the geeks if this is not the true term) for him were "snow camels". A few weeks later I happened upon an orange coat at Old Navy on clearance for $5. Unbeknownst to me I had purchaed the "Luke" coat. He used to run down the street with his left hand tucked in his sleeve yelling "I am your father"! At Easter his pre-school had a visit from the Easter Bunny and each child was allowed to pick out their own special egg from the Easter Bunnies basket. Well, he picked out the orange one - and quickly proclaimed that it was "Luke Egg-Walker"...

  7. I'm sorry but maybe if you are willing to give up belief in a band based on the actions of a few then you weren't meant to enjoy the band in the first place - stay home and listen to your vinyl dude!

  8. But how can one be sure that the radiation found in somewhat minute particles in North America can be attributed to the Japanese disaster. We have many nuclear plants on this side of the ocean as well... was any testing done here before the troubles in Japan?
