  1. Okay, here are pics. No where near as good as the Göteborg ones unfortunately, I peaked too early. Am going to leave Wilco alone now before they start to hate me (too late??). So it shall fall to some other person to report on the upcoming European shows.

  2. Wow. What a great show. Just gotten back and am now raiding lollys in business centre of hotel to replace kilojoules I burned going off to Kidsmoke. The show was in a largeish tent in a park, lovely place. Was nice to have toilets with water after the horrors of the previous festival toilets. Met some lovely people including probably the only other VCer in Helsinki (we were both front and centre), as well as Wilco (the man). Yes, there was a ducth man there who didn't have a ticket to the sold out show, but given his name (he showed them his passport) they managed to find one for him. Support was Kasper, a newish Finnish group who sounded very Simon and Garfunkle and weren't bad, but very hard to differentiate between their songs.

According to the set list (see pics) we were meant to get Hummingbird as well but that got dropped, guessing there may have been a curfew?? So much for the Finns being reserved people, that crowd went off. They were so into it. Jeff said they were one of the best crowds and they would have to come back more often. Tried to look happy like everyone else about that, but fuck Helsinki, come to Melbourne! Seriously Helsinki must be the wettest and most boring place on earth (apologies to the locals, its nothing personal). No many photos as apparantley the band had requested we didn't take them. Tried so hard to be good, but its not in my nature, so took some at the end. Didn't want to piss Wilco off but hey, they have to April or whenever its is they come down under to forgive me. Photos to follow, about to punch computer, its not behaving.

  3. They really didn't play it. Ran into Glenn at the airport and he said it had been ages since they had hadn't included it. Love the song but was happy to get spiders instead, by changing the set list between festivals I got a wider variety of songs so it worked for me.

  4. Meant to also add the first two songs were taped for a show. Apparantly some american channel (the camera guy did say which one but I can't recall) is doing a show involving food and music... delightfuly vague I know but its the best I can do. He said maybe on air in Nov.

  5. Thanks! Didn't catch Bon Ivers set, though I'm not even sure who I did see in the end! Just pottered about catching different bands. Several were the same from the Oya festival the day before, Glasvegas and Arctic Monkeys did the same back to back thing as Wilco.

  6. Just got back from the Way Out West festival. Göteborg is a uni town, so full of young beautiful trendy people. And every one of them was at this festival. Spent an hour wandering around a park the size of a small city playing follow the noise to find the festival. I was expecting something like Oya in Oslo yesterday, but it was much much bigger. Type of place where there are more bar stalls than toilets. So if you buy a drink, drink it while your standing in the toilet que and maybe, just maybe by the time you need to pee you might be at the front of the que.

Set list was different from yesterday, so although I lost At least thats what you said, I gained spiders.

Not sure what happened during BBN, Jeff ended up playing the end of his lead. Was smarter than security this time and got my camera in. Went with the long lens so close shots of them, but couldn't get an overall stage shot. Also, Glenn WAS there, but I just couldn't see him. Saw a drum stick occasionaly, thats it. So he appears in none of my pics. Took heaps for those that couldn't be there. And you owe me because I'm spending yonks loading them up in the hotel foyer having to listen to THE most insipid music ever, which is really killing my Wilco buzz.

I'm having such a great time, its fantastic to see Wilco live after they have kept me awake on the drive home from work so many times. One more in Helsinki, then I shall bide my time in Oz till they come to me.

  7. Just got back from the festival. I had sooo much fun. This is the first time I've seen the full Wilco line up, had only seen the mixed bag for 7 worlds before. Unfortunately security sussed onto my camera so I have no photos, will be more sneaky next time. The crowd was well up for a clap along, though they only knew one beat and it wasn't always the right one. Full points for trying though.

Onto Gothenburg tommorow, then Helsinki after that. Have warned Glenn and John I am stalking them. Poor blokes got stuck behind me and my troublesome booking checking in for ages. How dare the hotel make me look bad in front of wilco!

  8. What a great show. Totally worth breaking up my trip for. After queing in the afternoon sun for ages talking the ear off the poor people that were stuck near me, it all turned out to be pointless as if you had to collect a ticket it took FOREVER.

I would like to say Live Nation employees, specifically the stupid cow in the box office, YOU SUCK. Was nearly worthy of missing the concert just to jump in there and bitch slap her. Everyone with a ticket streaming past while she text messaged. Then accused ME of being rude. Pot kettle black bitch.

Anyway, rest of night was great. Doors didn't open at 7.30, they were still doing sound check at 8. Loved distant sun as opener, always a fave. But the absolute highlight was Private Universe with Phil and Glen on drums. Words can't describe it. Neil should kidnap them and make them always play his concerts.

Was great to hear Johns song, it was lovely. Would have been nice to hear him sing that at the Auckland shows. Phil did 2 songs this time, still love Family Madness or whatever name it goes by now. Don't Dream its Over... eh.. just a bit over that.Glenn played on all tracks I think, still love seeing him and Phil drumming together.

Outside the BBC was interviewing people on what they thought of the show. I babbled on a bit, hope none of it makes it to air. Think I might have dissed don't dream its over to them too....

Overall, just a rocking great concert. Have taken some pics, security were nice not like those nazis at the Powerstation.

7 Worlds Collide comes to London

Neil Finn is bringing the 7 Worlds Collide project to London for a very special one off show at Dingwalls in Camden.

The exclusive and intimate show will take place on August 11th, and will feature Neil Finn, Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead and Glenn Kotche and John Stirratt of Wilco. Together they will be premiering tracks from the forthcoming album The Sun Came Out.

Tickets go on sale Monday 3rd August at 9am and cost £25. Get them from Live Nation online, or by calling 0844 576 5483.

Argh the dilema! Fjords of Norway Vs Best concert ever. No mention of Jeff though...

  10. Oh that sounds so familiar! I was in the same position. They are sold out, but managed to get one that had been returned. If I were you I would email Lippu every day asking if any had become available. Like restraining order worthy nagging. I was sooo happy when they found one, had my flights and accomodation booked and everything, just not the ticket to the show (I'm from Australia). Hope to see you there, good luck!

  11. Hazel Black was one of my favorites too. Also loved Phil Selways Ties that bind us and Reptime, but due to mis-hearing I thought it was Reptile. Reptile didn't make much sense, but I don't know what RepTime is so I can't say its better. So many songs to choose from that didn't get an airing at the concerts. I thought they might have changed more of them night to night. Don McGlashen nearly put me in a coma.

  12. I'm new to the forum and relativley new to wilco. Only became a fan when I went to the 7 Worlds concerts in Jan. Since I don't do anything by halves, have decided to go see a couple of their shows in Europe. I'm looking at tickets for the Oslo and Gothenberg shows, but am having trouble understanding them as my swedish and norwegian is non-existant, and they only translate the main page.

Can you get a day pass for the Way out West festival? www.eventim.se only has two day passes.

The Oya festival (officialy THE most unhelpful webiste ever) seems to have the different dates for sale, but they all have 10pm next to the dates. I don't mean to sound like a grandma, but is that the time the concerts start? Am I right in ordering the one for the 13th?
