  1. Does anybody know what the rather large delay box that Nels keeps to his right on a table (and manipulates often by hand during the live show) is? Or is it a generic MIDI controller controlling something on the floor or backstage?
  2. Just got back from the Pomona show at the Fox Theatre. Awesome. Great venue, the band played for, if I read the SMPTE counter on the sound board correctly, 2 hours and 23 minutes, almost without taking their foot off the gas the whole time. It was far better than when I saw them a couple of years ago in Santa Barbara on the Sky Blue Sky tour. (Not that that was a bad show, at all). I really thought the venue was perfect for Wilco (a compact, beautiful old theatre), just big enough to pack in a big crowd but quite intimate. Pomona is a really strange, cool town. It's on the eastern ed
  3. Wow, I was off the internet yesterday and missed this terrible news. RIP Jay.
  4. Thanks. I guess I'm just on edge without my daily dose of "The Album". :-)
  5. No, I feel like my drugs have been taken away. Or is this one of those forums where you aren't supposed to write what you feel, but read what everyone else has said and come up with something even more smart-assed than what the previous posters have said in order to prove how jaded and cool you are?

  7. Is that in Los Angeles?
  8. I'm another one who ended up buying Sky Blue Sky twice because I had to go back and get the deluxe version with the DVD. I'm sure Wilco appreciated the support, but this time I'd like to figure out if there's going to be a deluxe version so I can get it the first time out... I like the shirt as is, btw. Though a shirt with the camel would be great, too. I bet the tour t-shirts have the camel on them.

  11. I've never been to a place more pretentious than a bar in San Francisco. Is there any place in the United States as stultifyingly conformist as San Francisco? I doubt it... unless you want to talk about the lockstep conservatism of the deep South, but that's a whole different story. I remember seeing Jay Farrar in San Francisco and looking around and realizing that literally every guy in the place was wearing the exact same uniform, kind of a shabby Jay-Crew look to split the difference between Kerouac and having a job. Speaking of having a job, most people in LA work pretty long, hard hou
  12. The comments section at the link is some pretty entertaining reading. (Reader's Digest Version: "Wilco should be opening for Yo La Tengo!"). Are Yo La Tengo vegans? Just trying to get the vegan connection. I mean, when they print news in the Brooklyn Vegan, is it presumed to have something to do with veganism, or would that be like expecting Time magazine to only write about clocks?
  13. Hey, I have a good friend in Madrid. I wonder if he's going to be at the show? (That's rhetorical... I wouldn't expect you to know.)
  14. Sorry if this has been touched upon already, but I haven't had time to read through the entire thread (most of which seemed to be about Sky Blue Sky, incidentally!)... Was the release date pushed back or something? I thought the record was due out in late May... In any case I'm a little bummed that I won't be able to listen to the record before seeing the band play twice in June. I was really looking forward to digging into the record for a few weeks before the live shows. You think they'll start streaming the songs from their website before the release?
  15. There isn't really a "scene" in LA, unless you're talking about going to Spaceland with 50 other people and watching local bands play. People who go looking for a "scene" in LA are usually pretentious out-of-towners who have so thoroughly adopted an attitude of superiority towards the rest of America based on their own self-perceived hipness that they don't know how else to inject themselves into a city except to go searching for the Southern California version of whatever petty clique they belong to back home. In LA this inevitably leads them to crappy bars on the Sunset strip populated by

Sounds like you had the same situation I did... ticketmaster said no tickets available all day then suddenly it went through in the afternoon...
  17. Shoot me a PM if you've got a couple of tickets to the Pomona show! Thanks...
