  1. Live Nation has a three day return policy on all tickets purchased for the Irvine show.  They will also cancel and reimburse your initial order if you find better seats thru Live Nation up to the day of the show!

Thanks for the tip!  Do you have to call their customer service to get the first tickets reimbursed if you buy better ones later?

  2. This presale for Irvine is LAME.  Loggd in right at 10 AM and the closer seats/first tier of pricing wasn't even an option.  It just keeps directing me to the last section of seats and that's what my girlfriend ended up getting because she was worred about not getting anything at all.

Of course, now they are starting to offer better seats.  Still nothing past the second tier of pricing.  Guess we should have just waited for the general onsale.

  3. That's funny because my friend is a realitive fan of My Morning Jacket, like most of their stuff but also doesn't like some of their stuff at all.

Anyways, he really like the new album and Bermuda Highway is one of his all-time favorite songs. When I told him how great the new album sounded AND sent him a link to Bermuda Highway from the Vic show, he emailed me back 2 minutes later saying he just bought tickets to the LA show ha.

Here is the bermuda highway video.

It might be a little fast, but I personally loved it and didn't feel it was rushed at all!

I don't think it sounds rushed.  Sounds great to my ears!

  4. Awesome that you got Bermuda Highway!  I've been crossing my fingers that he might do that one as a solo acoustic thing all along, so I'm glad to see it's a possibility.  Also lovin' all the MOF stuff.  Hope His Masters Voice stays on the set til I see the show in LA in a couple weeks.

  5.

I was the other way... initially lukewarm towards North Hills, but immediately smitten with Nothing Is Wrong.  The second album never really left my rotation; it's still in my car right now.  Everything said here about the live show is spot-on.  I was lucky enough to see Dawes on a co-headliner tour with Blitzen Trapper.  Great night with two of my favorite bands.

That was the tour I saw them on too!  I wasn't as hot on Blitzen Trapper but Dawes was why I went to the show in the first place.

  6. My brother just got into Dawes and I told him that their studio material is good but seeing them live is really a treat.   They're a real tight, enjoyable live band.

This is totally a true statement.  Saw them at the Music Box Theatre here in LA on thier last tour and it was a really great show.  The have a killer energy in the live shows.

Just waiting for them to announce a date in LA on this tour..........

  7. Been listening to the new Dawes album - Stories Don't End today.  I'm really liking it on my first few listens.  I'm much more warm on this one from the start than I was on their last album (which I eventually came around on).  This one is pretty strong in my opinion though.  Good lyrics - not as much of the hokey-ness in the writing going on this time around.  It's a lot of the things I like from their other 2 albums blended together.  There's definitely more jazz happening on this record - the last release felt very Neil Young/Jackson Brown and this release feels a lot more like The Band (and Jackson Browne, of course...)

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

  8. I just picked up a copy of Automatic For The People on vinyl for my girlfriend for her birthday.  Looking forward to hearing it.

Personally, I'd like to get a copy of Reckoning next.  I think that would probably sound pretty sweet on wax.

  9. Ziggy, for me. But I do have a non-ironic soft spot for Let's Dance.

BTW, anyone else love the Bowie covers on Life Aquatic from Seu Jorge? Too good.

    .

+1 for the covers in Life Aquatic.  Super Duper Awesomeness going on there.

As for albums - I've always really liked Hunky Dory.

  10. See THIS THREAD on gearslutz.  I found this in another thread here on the board (that specific thread I can't remember anymore...)

It's got some comments from an engineer who worked the Ghost Is Born sessions.   Look for the posts by Chris Shaw.  There are also some great pictures of the room set up that he posted.  There is a lot of great info here.

The Wilco Book also has a lot of awesome stuff about Sear Sound and the writing/constructing/recording of Ghost.

  11. Hey friends -

My band Northern Strangers has independently recorded, produced and released our debut album of psychedelic folk rock music called MONSTERS! this year.   You may have previously heard us if you listened to the Via Chicago Wilco Tribute #3 - I'm The Fan Who Loves You.  We recorded a cover of You Are My Face for that.  It was really awesome to have our track included in that compilation.

We are pretty proud of our album and we want to get some folks to hear it, so I wanted to offer up a link for a free mp3 download for anyone interesed.  I've got a .zip file of tagged 320k mp3's hosted at mediafire here, which you can download for free - if you like.  It's a psychedelic folk rock concept album of sorts.  I engineered and produced the album mostly myself, with some input from my bandmates.  I read a lot about the recording of A Ghost Is Born and wanted to get a similar type of feel, with the band in the room.  I based my set up (in a much more crude way, obviously) on the way they were squeezed together in the room, with bleed contributing to the vibe of things.  I'm pretty happy with the results.  The band was able to really work together on the basic tracks of the songs we recorded that way and even guitar solos recorded live came off well enough to not have to re-dub/replace.  We've been playing together for about 3 years.  Here's our professional bio:

Northern Strangers are a 5 piece psychedelic folk rock band from Los Angeles, CA.  They formed in 2010, playing covers of The Doors, Talking Heads, David Bowie, The Beatles and Neil Young.  They have gained quite a reputation for their Pink Floyd shows, where they play an entire Pink Floyd album synced to various video projections.  Most recently, Northern Strangers independently recorded, produced and released their debut original album MONSTERS! in January 2013.  The members varied musical backgrounds ranging from classical to jazz to reggae to folk provide for a distinct flavor of psychedelic fun.  Join the circus at www.northernstrangers.com.

Feel free to leave feedback... more importantly, if you like it - pass the link on to friends who also might enjoy it.
