  1. Hey I got a AT LP120-USB as well, for my money, it's the best turntable available in that price range. Though I still haven't heard one of those Uturn Orbits yet.

My wife Santa did good this year.

    Uncle Tupelo - No Depression

My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves

    Elliott Smith - Either/Or

Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (one of those expensive "Original Master Recordings" records, I have to admit, it sounds awesome)

Plus right before Christmas Jack White and the Bricks, Jack White Live at Bonnaroo, and the Neil Young boxset with Time Fades Away, On the Beach, Tonight's The Night, and Zuma.

I got my wife The Postal Service 3xLP and Oh Inverted World by The Shins. She had a Sub Pop Christmas.

It Still Moves is great!  Got that one a few years ago.  On mine the labels are backwards on one of the records.

We also picked up a couple Shins releases recently - Chutes Too Narrow and Wincing The Night Away

To add to my own list - a friend gave me this year's David Bowie record store day 10" with Sue and Tis Pity She's A Whore

  2. I got a lot of kick ass vinyl for Christmas this year.  I know a lot of folks have recently got AMF on vinyl, but I thought I'd start a post and list my goods and see what other cool things have popped up on your turntables...

    Here's mine:

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane (original/used copy)

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (new copy)

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks (new 180g pressing)

These are records I got for my fiancee (which technically means, I get them too - so I'll list them)

The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism (new copy)

The Decemberists - What A Terrible World, What A Beatiful World (pre-ordered and waiting to receive in January)

The Decemberists - Make You Better/Fits and Starts (Record Store Day 7")

  3. My thoughts after hearing that show live in real-time:

Ashes is one of the best songs of all songs in my opinion.  Nels was on fire in the end jam tonight.

Anyone who doesn't like Wilco is just stupid.  Flat out.

    Less Than/Ashes/Bull Black/IATBYH/One Wing - Whoa.

At My Window - so great.  Heard it live at Irvine Americanarama.  Wonderful harmonies.

I really love One Wing.  I have since the first times they played it when the key and arrangement were different.  I love the acoustic version and they absolutely killed it tonight.  That song is great.

The Good Part is awesome.  Just super.  It should be a number one hit toay.

At the end of Poor Places I was seriously wondering if they'd go for it and break into the electric version of Spiders (Kidsmoke).  I'm waiting for it to come back...

Secret Of The Sea - Oh Yeah!  What an awesome tune!

Late Greats is one of my favorite Wilco songs.  So good you will never know...

    Candyfloss!

Dark Neon - Holy Shit - this needs to become a Wilco live show staple, right?

What an incredible show!  I'm so thankful that they broadcast this and that I was here to tune in.  Here's hoping we get some Wilco 20th Anniversary shows out here on the West Coast...

EDIT:  I forgot to mention how incredible Panthers sounded.

  4. I've been really enjoying this compilation.  I'm still only part of the way through, but it's a good reminder that one of the things I've always loved about Wilco throughout the years is how they change up their song arrangements over time and throughout recordings.  I rhave always really enjoyed hearing so many different versions of all the songs I love so much and this compilation gives some really stellar versions of Wilco songs.  The version of At My Window is just super - I actually miss the harmonies but I really dig it in this fashion.  I also reallly like the demo of Monday - it might be my favorite versions of that song, actually.  I think the James Alley Blues is also a standout track.  I'm only up through the Summerteeth tracks so far and I'm looking forward to the rest.  I may actually spend the money on this release for the liner notes - I found my version... uh... somewhere...

  5. The author clearly has no taste, as they also use the "article" to bash Seinfeld.

There is no kind of review or reasoning even presented here for not liking Wilco, aside from having some beef with them calling Chicago home. This is not journalism in any sense of the word. I almost shudder to think that someone probably got paid to come up with this crap.

  6. Just got around to my first listen and WOW!  So excellent to get so much great new music.  Can't wait to listen over and over and over.  Still loving Fake Fur Coat the most but everything sounds good to my ears.  Excited for the details that many listens will bring out of this music.

  7. Any folks in Colorado like Pink Floyd?  Northern Strangers are playing Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here presented in full, front to back at The Barkley Ballroom in Frisco, CO this Thursday 9/4 at 9PM.  Free 21+  We're gonna party all night and play some more classic rock psychedelic tunes to finish out the evening after the Floyd set is over.  Come check it out if you're in the area!

  8. Here's a tidbit from the Wilco HQ email that went out today...

"More Wilco news from us shortly including info on a handful of other shows, but keep in mind...there will not be a proper Wilco tour this year. Grab your chance to see the band while you can. More soon & happy summering."
