  1. No shipment notification for me yet (ordered the pink vinyl on 07/16/2019).

I spoke too soon. Shipped and arriving next Tuesday. Not sure why I bother ordering directly from the band. It costs more and arrives late.

  2. Could be. Last time they played Chicago it was 4 shows at Chicago Theater. Tickets were cheaper then.

They performed 106 songs over the 4 nights with 49 unique songs. That's not bad for mixing it up.

That's definitely more variety than I remembered. I feel like you get two unique shows (nights 1 and 3 are similar & 2 and 4).

As another data point, they played 4 nights at the Beacon on the Schmilco tour where they played 25-29 song sets, with 47 unique songs.

  3. Given the lack of set list variety, I probably don’t need to go to all 4 of these, but at the same time, not going to all 4 of them seems like a bad idea!

I'm not hard on the band for not mixing up the setlists as much as they once did. Most people aren't going to multiple shows or traveling far and wide, and so a "standardized" setlist where they're rotating a few songs makes sense; they are catering to a wider audience. But, if I'm being honest, the incentive to travel to Chicago or St. Paul just wasn't there for me, given that I will have seen a few shows already on this tour and that the sets will (probably) be identical. I'll save my rock tourism dollars for the next solo tour.

  4. What a cool surprise! I am loving Cate Le Bon's Company In My Back. It both sounds like a Wilco song and a Cate Le Bon song, which I think is what you want out of a cover.

FWIW, I would pay top dollar for an entire Courtney Barnett Wilco covers album. I agree w/ the comment above about a vinyl version.

Edit: any word on if these songs were recorded at The Loft?

  5. No encore? That’s too bad. Cool that he did Plateau again, though! Thanks for the report.

In your absence the least I can do is jot down the setlist! No encore, and, if memory serves, immediately following IATMWLY Jeff said something like "that was the encore!" Frankly, I'm happy he omitted the charade of leaving and coming back if it meant more music, which seems to have been the case. Speaking of which, I had no idea that he'd done Plateau previously - what a great song, and his rendition especially. As a small aside: during soundcheck Jeff played John Wesley Harding, which was very cool as I hadn't heard him play it in quite a long time, if ever. I thought maybe he'd play it during the evening's set, or today at Newport, but I guess not!

  6. Jeff took the stage at “Lincoln Center’s Parking Lot” at 8:30, following a performance by Helen Gillet, and finished a few minutes before 10:00. There was no encore.

  7. So I suppose that we've heard 5/11 of the tracks already, right? Before Us (SSF installation), White Wooden Cross (SSF and Jeff's been playing it solo), An Empty Corner (SSF), Everyone Hides (St. Vincent movie soundtrack), and today's premiere of Love is Everywhere.

No surprise here, but I am really enjoying Love is Everywhere.

  8. I really love the bonus track that was included in the Warm/Warmer combo. I've said it before, but I think Jeff's writing some of his best songs right now. If the three new Wilco tracks are any indication, LP11 is gonna be something special.

  9. I almost always leave the festival Sunday morning, but we we decided to stick around this year. I’m so glad we did so, as we caught Buck Meek’s set, which was great (he’s got a little band in tow), and then Jonathan Richman’s set prior to Tweedy. I have to admit that I didn’t know any of JR’s music but found myself grinning ear-to-ear during his set. What a performer! Moments like those are what make SSF such a special event. And the people, of course. So good seeing so many familiar faces.

  10. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I don't agree with you at all. I actually think that they've done a damn good job NOT becoming a nostalgic act.

They played albums that were 22 and 16 years old straight through at SS

Fans voted on this. They're not doing a Being There anniversary tour.

they sell merch based around their most well known album

What is their most well known album, and what merch are you referring to?,

setlists on recent tours were heavily concentrated on material from their 2 best known albums with new material mixed in dismissing about a decade's worth of newer music,

I'm far too lazy to do some setlist crunching, but I would agree that they ignore some of their recent catalogue. Perhaps fatigue from having toured behind those albums in recent years? Or, they know that fans don't want to hear deep cuts from The Whole Love (this fan included).

they don't play developing markets anymore - just the places where they can make money

If bands make their money touring, it's hard to fault them for playing places where they sell tickets, right?

, they reissue deluxe versions of their albums

Two times. Over 30 years. They also give their studio albums away for free, and so....

. Also, as seen previously in this thread their fans would rather hear their old songs rather than their new ones. That's off the top of my head.

We got an "evening with" tour in the last decade, and if you catch any Jeff solo show you're going to hear "deeper"cuts.

  11. I already have Wam and Warmer LPs but the completionist in me needs that bonus track. Hmm......

same. also the packaging looks really nice. i'll probably pass on the preorder and end up buying it at ssf because i'm a sucker who can't help himself.
