  1. I totally forgot how this works. Last time I bought tix for something that wasn’t Solid Sound was fall of 2015 for Boston 2016 shows. Scratch that. I was at the Maine show in 2017.

I don’t have the email yet, but I know both presale codes. The official site doesn’t say much on what to do. Do I need my own user name? Lol

Edit: ok. I looked around here and I see the pinned Crowd Surge thread.

You'll just need an account on Ticketmaster, I believe. BTW thanks for sharing the Thursday codes for Boston. I'll probably need them given TM's implementation of their virtual "waiting room" which opens at some unknown time before the pre-pre-sale. I love going to these shows but the ticket buying process is just unnecessarily stressful.

If anyone has any info on additional NYC presales I'd be super appreciative :)

  2. I'm pretty torn on this. Part of me would rather just spend the $$ traveling around the US to catch a few shows on the next Wilco tour. On the other hand, it's a getaway in the middle of winter to see my favorite band... I am curious about the type of attendees these destination shows attract. There's a reason I never went on a traditional spring break trip in college.

  3. haha!

(sorry, i hadn't seen this post since i last saw this thread... the board should have a notification if your post gets quoted).

i was gonna see TFS tonight in dublin but left a day earlier than i usually do and forgot about it. doh!

You can actually turn on email notifications for when your post gets quoted (i just received one  ;)). Safe travels - hope you're having a nice time!

  4. Blink & you'll miss it, but The National just added a Boston date at the Agganis Arena on October 24.

    Tickets onsale this Friday.

Any of my fellow Boston peeps see this today? I only found out by hitting up their website after their 3rd single/video premiered today. Hairpin Turns is the 3rd single, btw.

I got an ad on FB about that show. Never seen a show at Agganis, but am generally not a fan of those arena shows. Going to see them up in Portland, ME this summer instead!

  5. Hi all -

I haven't been to SS before, but now that the three day tix are sold out - does anyone know if they are transferable ?  I wasn't sure if the ticket takes the form of a bracelet or something other than a ticket.  Thanks !

Tickets are transferrable. You get a paper ticket which, upon arriving at the festival, they swap for a bracelet. That's for a 3-day pass, I'm not sure if they handle single-day tickets differently.

And so concludes Jeff’s two-night stand at The Town Hall. Night two saw Jeff a little more comfortable, due in part, perhaps, to a better behaved audience.

This isn’t to say that the audience didn’t speak up! Jeff recounted the bit of unsolicited advice he received during night one, when a woman suggested that he not wear the same outfit for both nights. On the topic of unsolicited advice, Jeff told a story of meeting R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe after a show, and Michael offered Jeff a bit of advice: try makeup.

Jeff’s back-and-forth with the audience, and his relationship with his audiences more generally, was probably the overarching theme of all of the show’s banter. In reply to one heckle, Jeff shared that for a recent magazine interview he was asked to create a pie chart that represents Americans. He estimated that about 30% of Americans are dead, and the rest of the pie... jealous.

Unrelated, I did spy a few familiar faces in the audience, including some VC’ers. Nels and Yuka Honda were in attendance, as was David Fricke. During night 1 I spied Yo la Tengo’s Ira and Georgia as well as Jesse Malin.

Unfortunately, my scribbled notes are looking a bit incoherent this morning, and so I’ll try to recount more of the banter as I think of things. Others are encouraged to chime in!

I’m The Man Who Loves You

    Misunderstood

To me, there was an energy in the room at The Town Hall that straddled the line between respectful engagement with Jeff and too much. For the most part, the crowd was good: some ribbing here and there, attentive during the calmer moments, etc. That was until the encore. Once Jeff returned to the stage at about 9:50 the crowd remained standing and there was just too much talking/heckling, which might be why we got an abbreviated encore.

Otherwise Jeff was funny as ever. Repeated banter about Guaranteed, the comfortable seats, and the “Reverse David Lee Roth” (ie instead of the rock star asking “How are you all doing tonight?” Jeff’s crowd asks him “How are YOU doing?”

I loved his comment preceding You and I, when after some excited applause Jeff quipped, “was this your wedding song?”

There was a lot of clapping, including a clapper who “took a solo” at one point. During Let’s Go Rain Jeff has to pause mid-song to ask the audience to stop clapping “it’s just too hopeful.”

For the first mention of NYC during New Madrid the crowd gave a big cheer. After the song Jeff snarked “I thought that you were more sophisticated than that.” Naturally, he followed up with two songs with NYC references: Sick Server and Hummingbird.

Outside of banter I’ve noticed a few slight changes to Jeff’s playing. Specifically the outros to both One Sunday Morning and Ashes. Can anyone else confirm, or am I imagining this?

Jeff took the stage at about 8:30 and got off at about 10:10.

Just a few noteworthy visits to banter corner:

The show started with three or four consecutive songs before Mr. Tweedy addressed the audience, and two attendees in particular. A couple showed up before IATTBYH, and Jeff, as he's known to do, "shamed" them for being late. He then corrected himself, admitting that sometimes he gets angry tweets from the latecomers: "they'll tweet at me: 'I had to put my dog down this evening and all we wanted to do was to go out for a good time.'" The couple took it in jest and it proved to be a nice icebreaker.

Somewhere in the middle of IATTBYH an audience member wooed for some of Jeff's guitar work. After the song, he admitted that he interprets that sort of encouragement as condescending because "anyone could do it. I could teach all of you to play that before we leave here." He then mock played some of Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water.

During Rule Class Jeff kept itching his nose. I wouldn't have thought anything of it, but after the song he admitted that a mustache hair was tickling the inside of his nose every time he whistled. I don't recall exactly what he said about this, but he joked about what a professional he was for persevering.

Summerteeth was met with an unusual lack of audience participation. Very few "ooos" and "aaahs" despite a few playful head nods during the appropriate moments. After the song, Jeff (correctly) posited that the seats must be comfortable. Someone yelled something about how the venue is a dry venue too, which Jeff agreed is another contributing factor, along with what day of the week that it is. I think that it was at this moment that Jeff recounted an international festival some years ago that Wilco played. Wilco was set to play before a side project of some of the Slipknot members. Every evening Wilco was met by a totally uninterested audience. Jeff said that one night he finally got a woman in the front to crack a smile by saying something to the effect of: "Just because we don't look the part doesn't mean we aren't equally invested in doing the dark lord's work." This is surly a misquote, but it was a very funny moment.

I'll try to recount more as they come to me....

A funny little set at Newbury Comics (Newbury St. location) this morning, celebrating their 41st birthday. Wristbands were handed out at 10:00, and I was a bit surprised that by the time doors opened there were maybe 25 people in line. At the time, the store didn't have anything setup for the 12:15 show, and the employee I first spoke to couldn't tell me which of the three floors the show was gong to be on!

We opted to leave the store and return around 11:45, by which time Newbury erected a small riser on their second floor. At about 12:15 Jeff entered, tripped climbing up a small step ladder onto the riser, and launched into Some Birds.

He introduced Guaranteed as he'd done previously on this tour (w/r/t the first line), and mentioned that he has a new album coming out later this month (though not incorrect, it was clear Jeff didn't fully realize that RSD is next weekend). Family Ghost was the highlight for me song-wise, and was followed by Hummingbird, a request of @TwoShedJackson's daughters, which was a sweet moment.

Surly some additional banter in between, which I'm not remembering now. Will try and take a few notes this evening as I believe our resident setlist reporter mentioned not being able to attend these shows in the north east. More later!

  10. If you go to Largo's Instagram and check out their "stories" you can catch most of, if not all, his set from last night. It's about 25 minutes long. It isn't archived, and is only available for 24 hours from when it was posted (so it will disappear Friday evening).

  11. granted NYC prices are different, but maybe our definition of 'club' is the issue here... in Boston anyways, i would say that a club is 1000 or less capacity, excepting House of Blues which is almost on par with T5. and 90% of shows at venues like The Paradise, Royale, Sinclair, even HoB are definitely under $50. There is no way Wilco would play a venue like HoB at this stage in their career; they are too big.

The capacity of Boston HoB is 2700; the Orpheum, where they've played fairly recently, is 2500. I'm pretty glad that they don't play HoB, as I hate that place, but I don't know that it's too small for them. Then again, they sold out The Wang (3500) in 2011.... FWIW, I love picking up tickets at The Sinclair box-office for Bowery Boston shows as they waive fees. You can save $20+ on a pair of tix.
