  1. Awesome night of Wilco, much better overall than last night. Agreed, the stage & light design were super classy. How about those trains going by during the show, incredible! Loved Foxygen's nutzy set. Were they really booted or was Tweedy joking? That security dude that pulled Foxygen's lead singer off the vertical steal beam supporting the stage rigging was a major ass by shoving the singer to the ground, wtf!?!

I don't think they actually got booted, but who knows? That security guy definitely over-reacted though, it was pretty unprofessional. You wouldn't ever see that from a security person at any other festival/music event.

  2. Set was really great, the positive energy from last night and today really seemed to flow into tonights set. I particularly enjoyed the comments about Foxygen. For those who weren't there for Foxygen's set, the lead guy climbed the scaffolding during a song and Solid Sound security was none too happy about it. In a seperate incident, Jeff introduced himself to him and they apparently had no idea who he was, so Jeff was playfully ripping on them a bit. I think he thought it was funny.

Interesting note: 7 Summerteeth songs, 2 YHF songs, ZERO Ghost is Born songs. I was almost convinced they were going to end the show by doing all of YHF in its entirety, just because it seemed weird that they went so long without playing any of it.

  3. So happy they played my request (Marquee Moon)! Lost my shit when Tommy Stinson got on stage. Never thought i'd see Wilco cover ABBA, Pavement, and Daft Punk, let alone in the same show. Needless to say, i had the time of my life!

Also, Kingpin was the perfect choice for the lone Wilco song of the set, kept the energy high, fit right in.

  4. Ya, only headliners get a soundcheck typically, but there were other bands who didn't soundcheck who sounded alright. Like i said, they weren't working in anything close to ideal conditions, i'm just looking forward to a great solid sound this weekend!

  5. Bonnaroo is probably my favorite festival in the US, and it holds an extra special place in my heart because i saw my first ever Wilco set there back in '09. That set was the catalyst that caused me to see Wilco close to 15 times over the next 4 years.

Unfortunately, the conditions didn't quite seem to match up this time around. The band suffered from what i would politely call a "god awful mix". I hate to nitpick, but you shouldn't be wondering why a show is so quiet when you are standing a mere 30 feet from the soundboard. There was virtually no John in the mix, and Glen's kit sounded pretty sterile, especially the snare.

The setlist was pretty long for a festival set. Nice to see Via Chicago and Kamera in there. Hesitating Beauty was almost too quiet to hear unfortunately, as that's not one you get to see often. Hated being this disappointed with a Wilco set, but most of it didn't seem like their fault. Crowd was pretty receptive, and wasn't too loud during the quiet parts. I'm just looking forward to Solid Sound, where they will most certainly be playing in a more favorable environment.

To those who caught the stream, how did it sound on your end?

  6. Just picked up two from the Mast Brothers shop in Brooklyn this morning. FYI, they were only $7 (still a lot for a candy bar, but better than 10). Only opened one so far, chocolate is pretty good, definitely very salty though.

UPDATE: opened the 2nd, no gold ticket for me :(

  7. To whoever was talking about AGIB being tracked individually: It was largely done live. There was a great thread on gearslutz a while back where engineer Chris Shaw talked about his experience tracking for the record. HERE is his original post, and he has another one with pictures HERE

  8. hey guys...really trying to make this work this year. never been before...had some questions.

Trying to figure out the best plane/rent a car scenerio...

How far of a drive is it from NYC?

I booked a room at WIlliams Inn but its 200 a night....any other places you would recommend that are cheaper/not too far of a drive/and are still available? Is the WIlliams Inn nice? Seems kinda steep, but it was the first place I called, so I booked a room.

We plan on flying in Friday motning...and leaving sometime on Sunday..as most of the acts don't interest me on Sunday.

I've gone both years from just outside of NYC (westchester), and it's roughly a 4 hour drive for us, i'd probably tack on an extra half hour coming from the city.

  9. Most important, of course, will be "W for Wilco", & hopefully either "J, or T, for Jeff Tweedy", but, I'm also hoping & holding out for "Y For Yo La Tengo"!! I just saw them in both Cleveland & Toronto & they were absolutely amazing! They truly are my second fave band in the world, live & otherwise, next to Wilco. Having them at Solid Sound 2013 would be a dream bill come true. Either that or having them added to the Nelsonville Fest (though Yo La Tengo & The Flaming Lips were both at that Fest in 2010).

Yo La Tengo are touring throughout this year, and the last date up on their website is in May in California, so this is a real possibility (Nelsonville too). They've played together before (double bill at Keyspan Park in Brooklyn in '09 is one of the first two Official Wilco show downloads, before the days of the Roadcase series), & Jeff, Nels, & Mikael have all shown up to play at Yo La Tengo's annual series of Hannukah shows at Maxwell's in N.J. (2010 I think it was).

I'm also hoping for either "M, or S, for Mavis Staples" (which I think is very likely since they are sharing some tour dates in the Spring), and maybe dark horses "D for Donna The Buffalo" and/or "G, or P, for Graham Parker & hopfully The Rumour", or even long shots, "F for The Flaming Lips" and/or "S for Sufjan Stevens".

    Don't forget J or O for "Jim O'Rourke". That'd be a welcome surprise.

  10. I'm hoping this is the year Jim O'Rourke makes an appearance. I remember talking to the organizer of Solid Sound this past September, because he also puts on Grace Potters festival up in Vermont. I asked him about O'Rourke and he said that it comes up every year, it's just hard to get him out of Japan apparently.
