  1. For some reason I have to think 1999 would be up there. Rap/Rock was supposed to the future of music. Teen pop ran rampant. Limp Bizkit was putting out albums produced by the guys from Korn. Woodstock '99. There was a lot of crap out that year (of course there was some excellent music released that year as well). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_in_music#Albums_released
  2. I can't disagree w/the Sesame Street comparison.
  3. I can't really place it w/THS, but something about them really clicks w/me, and a lot of my friends. Maybe it's that I'm from a shit hole town 2hrs south of Minneapolis. I guess, I just really like the guitar licks and I love the lyrics. To me their songs have a lot of muscle behind them, and I love that. I understand they repeat the same themes, and don't necessarily grow alot, but that's kind of what they're all about. Like the DBTs, they're music is linked to a regional identity and how that's shaped their view. I can totally understand why a lot of people wouldn't like them very much
  4. I think I just tend to put up w/singers that have "bad" voices if I like the band and the songwriting. Eventually, I start to enjoy the singer. Jeff Mangum is a perfect example of this for me. He's so nasal, yet he writes some killer songs. I'm such a sucker for a good song, that I eventually look past and learn to love the bad vocals. That's just me though.
  5. I would say that I listen to AM-AGIB (chronologically) equally. WTA has been getting alot of spins after seeing the songs live. They really seemed to click alot more. I definitely prefer it to SBS.
  6. The original comment was somewhat in jest. Also, take Rush for example. I think Geddy Lee is a terrible singer w/an annoying voice, yet I still enjoy the band due to the instrumental ass kicking that he, Lifeson, and Peart pull off. You don't have to like every element of a band to enjoy them overall/respect what they do.
  7. I own every album except Mermaid Ave Vol II, and I have never decided on what Wilco album is my favorite. They are the only band whose entire catalog I own/have heard and can't come to a conclusion like this. Part of it for me is that every album has songs that I absolutely love, and songs I don't really care for at all. YHF probably has the fewest songs I skip, but if I made I list of my Top 10 Wilco songs, about half of them would be on AM and Being There (CQ, BFOL, Outtasite, Monday). I could tell you my least favorite (SBS) but after that it would be a total crap shoot. Am I alone?
  8. AM: Casino Queen or BFOL (can't choose)/That's Not the Issue BT: Outtasite (disc 1)/Outtamind (disc 2)... ST: ELT/In a Future Age YHT: I'm the Man Who Loves You/Reservations AGIB: The Late Greats/Less Than You Think SBS: Impossible Germany/You Are My Face WTA: You and I (sorry, I really like this tune)/Everlasting Everything Going back to Being There, does anyone else think the Disc 1 version of Outtasite is the "Stones" version, while disc 2 is the "Beatles" version?
  9. I could see where Craig Finn is off-putting to some. Like Geddy Lee, either you love him or find him completely obnoxious.
  10. Mike Cooley is the greatest American born songwriter since Tom Petty. Jeff Tweedy is 2nd. Eddie Vedder is 3rd. Patterson is the "front man" for the DBTs, and he writes some great songs, but it's the Cooley songs that blow my mind. The man has a way w/words I've never seen before.
  11. Wilco would kick ass on both of those albums. Great albums by great bands. I can't imagine someone w/taste in music disliking either...
  12. She was never going to put out and Cooley knew it. But how in the hell did this thing get to 7 pages w/out "Dead Flowers" by the Stones? "Send me dead flowers every morning, send me dead flowers by the US Mail, send me dead flowers to my wedding, and I won't forget to put roses on your grave". The only song that can touch it is "Like A Rolling Stone" or "Positively 4th Street".

GREAT show last night. I was stunned by how many people left after the 1st encore, but we were able to get a lot closer to the stage. The acoustics sucked, but the band was definitely on. Great set list to boot. 1. Wilco (The Song) 2. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart 3. Bull Black Nova 4. You Are My Face 5. One Wing 6. A Shot In The Arm 7. At Least That's What You Said 8. Deeper Down 9. Impossible Germany 10. Cars Can't Escape 11. Can't Stand It 12. Jesus, Etc. 13. Sonny Feeling 14. Handshake Drugs 15. Hate It Here 16. Walken 17. I'm The Man Who Loves You // E1: 18. Ashes

Just wish I had been around during the days where they played People's several times a year. Unfortunately I was 11. Miss that bar.
  15. "Boys and Girls in America" by the Hold Steady. If anyone could do Craig Finn, it's Jeff Tweedy. My 2nd vote would be "Brighter than Creation's Dark" by Drive-By Truckers. If it was just a song that they don't already cover (as far as I know), ever since I started listening to Wilco, I've imagined Jeff Tweedy singing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" (the song).
