I prefer George and John's Solo records above the Beatles records the last couple years ,mostly George, but I'm sure I'll feel different again, that's what's great about The Beatles, Dylan, Bowie, Waits, etc. being a fan is being a fan for life, and some songs, eras you'll always hold in high requard, some will fall in and out of favor, but sure enough you return to them at a different stages and hear it with new ears, at least thats my experience.

elliott smith - happiness/the gondola man. I could give a shit about gondola man actually but happiness is one of my favourite songs ever.
another Elliot, 'everything reminds me of her' 'everything means nothing to me'

Kids today....
Her first five albums are some of the greatest stuff ever recorded and some of the best songs ever written. Some of her later stuff ain't bad either. I highly recommend the live at the Filmore CD that came out a few years back.

I picked up this one for my gal after hearing Jenny Lewis talking about in an interview, and we both love it. It's all Oldies covers and Patty Labelle and her sisters sing back up, some powerful singing. One of our favorite, it's saturday and time for a drink records. I'll have to check out some of here original work.

i got to see Nick In NYC last month as a book store benefit.
been a fan for 30 years.
did he have a band ?
Nope, solo. I only have his recent Yep Roc releases, and I'm familiar enough with Rockpile, what else should I check out?

Saw the show last night, he's super cool, really funny, and entertaining, it was a great time. I believe he's doing a free show in NYC at the World Trade Center site tonight. Ron Sexsmith was pretty great too, not quite the classy show man that Nick Lowe is, reminded me of Jackson Browne in a good way.

Stage Fright is def. my fav. of the 'other albums'
I believe 'it makes no difference' is simply one of the greatest tunes ever.

did you almost cut your hair?
Nope, letting my freak flag fly

That album actually won some sort of Sci-Fi award when it came out.
I believe it, the concept was that they hijack a starship and start a new civilization on some far-off planet, I think it's the begining of transformation from Airplane to Starship, groovy.

My girlfriends Mom got me a Crosby, Stills, and Nash Biography for Christmas, I read when I had the flu, maybe it was cause I was miserable at the time, but what a few of the most unlikable douches, I

Dylans cover of 'Fool such as I' is my favorite, and undeniably inspired by the Elvis in Memphis sessions, which makes it a classic for me.
Behold the awesomness of Frank Vallie and The Four Seasons,

I believe in Chronicles Dylan says his favorite cover of one of his tunes, was Johnny Rivers doing 'positively 4th street'.
I think I have an mp3 of The Four Seasons ( Frankie Valli ) doing 'Like a rolling stone', it's a must hear, will post tomorrow if I can locate it.

I'll be catching P&F at the Fillmore one night and Red Rocks the next in a few weeks.
re: Shakedown Street- I get much pleasure out of the out-takes from the studio sessions. One of my favorite "Good Lovin's" ever featuring Lowell George (who produced the album) singing as the highlight.
You decide:

Thanks for all the suggestions, I had most of these on my computer but never listened to them much and then lost them in the great I-tunes folder disaster of 06, but lately been wanting to give them another listen. As for the Wilburys, I got all that, some of my favorite music ever.

The Ryan Adams crowd could easily beat up the Bright Eyes crowd.
I'm not saying that's a criterion by which to decide. It's just an observation.
One word for those who would choose Ryan Adams

lots of good stuff coming out, besides another underwhelming Cult cd.
I can testify to the new Sadies, yeah, it's good, lots of Clarence white style guitar and folk rock tales, and Gary Louris produced, and you can definitly hear his influence thru out.
and look you can stream it here

Incredible song.
yeah, if the rest of the record sounds anything like that, it's definitly something to be excited about

Though I am enjoying this, and it's interesting to see how America was affected state side, I was thinking last night they could have covered that in one episode or something, or maybe a companion documentary or something. I se know it's meant to be the american experience of the war, I guess I was expecting it to be a more overall look at the whole war, including more about all the countries experiences, and more inside the Axis. Also, it kind of blew right thru the battle for North Africa. Anyway, I'll keep watching but it doens't seemed to be grabbng me as did the Civil War and Baseball.
