I just got the Bunkhouse record, I'm kind of a Jayhawks dork, thru the Sound of Lies anyway, so I think it's worth seeking out.

It's an hour long radio show from the BBC, hosted by none other then.......... Brad Pitt?
Which I thought a little odd, but it's a really great listen, I never new to much about him except from Joe Boyd's book tour. It gives some details behind his mental illness, and a good amount of studio talk from Joe Boyd and the the guy who engineered all his sessions.

That took a little deep sea memory fishing, I never did get that sporty Ipod Nano, bummer.

Honestly, coming to a new forum that you've NEVER posted at before and writing about your band is NOT a way to get fans, in fact, it's just going to piss people off. Contribute to the community a fair amount, and then ask us to listen to your band.
I'll never understand this attitude, especially on a board for a band like Wilco, that I imagine is all for supporting art at all levels.

It seems weird that it has been 12 years.....I was in Lynchburg, TN with my relatives from Scotland visiting the Jack Daniels distillary that day. We were driving back towards Nashville and they were playing all sorts of Dead tunes on the radio (a rarity in these parts). I sorta figured something happened but it hit me like a ton of bricks hearing that Jerry had died.
Fucking bummer......I wonder what kind of music he would be into if he were still alive now
Yep, I knew he was gone, when I turned on the radio and they where playing Terrpain Station in it's
entirety. Anyway, without even being aware of todays anniversary, I listened to a show i just downloaded from 83, it's was pretty decent. I'll twist one up and throw Europe 72 on the hifi tonight that's fo sho.

This sucks, I didn't know the band personally but played a gig with them last year, a very good band. Lets just hope now the drummer pulls thru ok.

I may have missed if there was a thread about this one but,
Anyone else pick this up yet? Just about thru my first listen, I dig it alot so far, with some definite stand outs that are up there with there best work. I have really grown to love Neil Finn's songwriting more and more as I get older ( not old, just older ), and goddamn his voice which has always been great IMO, just gets better, and am really looking forward to hearing him sing live for this first time.

I just couldn't get into any of the spin off bands, Further Festival, Ratdog, Phil and Friends, etc. To me the music doesn't sound the same, which of course is understandable. It just seems to lack that "wow" factor to me. Also what's up with Weir these days with his elder statesman look? Disclaimer: was never a huge Bobby fan anyways
Me too, I stopped goin to shows in 93, i get my fix from my old tapes, and of course now the Archive.

The Original Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers , there first home recorded release. Something about this one for me, I describe it as sadness in the joy, there's alot of joy and alot of sorrow, and there's life for you. And then when your feeling a little better, throw on Chuck Berry's 'the great 28' and dance around like an old fool.

strangely enough, Tommy Gunn was on the Philly Local news recently on a story about the porn industry. I thought the song was just OK, might be better in the context of the record.

The outtakes has 2 versions of Mountains of the Moon, neither of which has the choir (at least the copy I have). Here's a link to the vinyl rip of the Aoxomoxoa that has uncut versions of songs, including MOTM with the choir.
Thanks for this by the way, never heard this version or was aware of it even. Just finsihed listening, great stuff!

For anyone in or around Philly, a fantastic new Record Store has opened up on 5th and Girard. It's called Tequila Sunrise ( not the coolest name, I know, but pay no mind ). Excellent stuff, great condition, and affordable. It's about 2 blocks from my house which makes the idea of actually saving money that much more difficult.

Exactly twenty years ago, I spent the month of July hitchhiking around the country to catch all the Bob Dylan/Grateful Dead concerts they were doing together. Three on the east coast, then three on the west. It wasn't planned, I just went to the first one, and it was great. Since I was fairly homeless at the time anyway, what the hell. The shows got better each time, as the Dead's worshipping of Bob forced him to knock off the rust and give a shit, relearning a bucketload of his old songs. His voice was in fine form in those days. I think it was the last time Jerry ever played lap steel in concert. Jerry was newly sober, and had reforged a good working relationship with Weir and the rest of the band. I ended up hitting 90% of the shows that summer and fall, and decided to try being an artist again, as I was getting a little old to be a broke hitchhiker, and the music was inspiring. I even met Missus J4 at a Dead show. Thank God for Jerry and Bob.
One From The Vault is my recommendation for a gateway Dead album as well. Not the most on fire, but pretty, precise and inspired.
I wish I new you back then to join you J4lackey, although at 14 in 87' I probably would have ended up just an annoyance to you. I always love hearing these stories, I never did more than 2 or 3 shows at a time.
Looks like it's already been covered, but when it comes to the Dead, I must chime in.
Europe 72
Workingmans
American Beauty
Live Dead
one from the Vault
Live from the Mars Hotel
Wake of The Flood
Bootlegs-
8/6/71 @ Hollywood Palledium
8/27/72 @ Old Reaissanse fair grounds Oregon
2/27/77 swing Auditorium
11/24/78 Cap theatre

For my money the early 70's were the best GD has ever been. Not to say I don't love almost every chapter of the band, just I am partial to the sound from that period.
I agree, I don't really enjoy listening to anything past 1980, therefore almost don't ever, except on occassion I listen to bits of some of the shows I attended in the early 90's.

No Nico Case?
Indeed, I would say Neko's first record 'The Virginian' is one of the Finest alt. country records.

For Better or for worse, in sickness and in health. Regular divorce stuff - very personal. Gingrich-esque endings, private yet discussable. Why are you pussy footing around an issue you know you would stomp his 'nads for if she was your sister? Call it as it is.
I might be pissed enough to punch a guy if he broke my sisters heart, but at the end of the day it would still have nothing to do with me.

No mention of the affair which caused his MS ridden wife to rake him over the coals and push him back onto he road? Low my brother, very low!
All I can say to this, is that's impossible to understand completely why relationships go south, but it happens alot and can happen to the best of us. Why not leave the personal stuff to the privacy of the people involved, where it belongs. Damn! I think I followed the wrong path, I should be a publicist.

My favorite of 2007 thus far! and the soundtrack to my week at the Jersey shore.

Just finally got the remastered version of this, I had no idea how just good this record is, I only ever heard the original a couple of times and never payed it much mind. The band is fantastic, it's nice to actually hear what they're playing, and helped me hear just how good these songs are, and i think backup singers are always a classy touch. HUGE difference and improvement between this and the original.
