  1. OK, since we moved onto Florida. I can't wait. It's still freezing here, still snow in my yard. Selfishly happy these shows are not well attended. Saying at the Hard Rock and flying in that day. Just Orlando and St. Augustine. What should we do in between? Going with my husband who has seen the band once at Bridge School Festival 2003.

You could visit Deland, a really nice little town between Orlando and St. Augustine. A little ways off the interstate, but well worth it. Near Deland is Blue Springs State Park, a beautiful spot worth checking out. Deland has a sweet little downtown, with restaurants and antique shops.

The drive up A1A between Daytona and St. Augustine is great. Little beach towns and many miles of coastline.

  2. St. Augustine looks better as far as seats already sold (maybe around 2,300), but there are still tons of seats in the last upper tier, section 3. At least a few hundred, probably close to 1,000.

I mean, I don't expect every show to be a sellout, but come on, Florida! We don't have to be a tertiary market...do we?

Were you at the last show in St. Augustine in 2012? The venue had so many empty seats, I figured Wilco would never come back. The upper tier is the only section that is uncovered. Until this week it has been super rainy and you're taking a real chance with the weather.

At any rate, I'm so excited they did decide to return and looking forward to the Orlando show, too! I hope the sound at that Hard Rock venue will be great.

** Oops, post completely unrelated to Houston show.

  3. The extras sound fun and weird, as usual. Especially want to see the Lomax New Orleans music documentary and maybe stop the party long enough for a hike this year! I hope the Solid Sound documentary will be on sale, but it would be nice to see it on a big screen.

  4. Ah, a favorite topic of mine. Right now I have Busch Light, PBR (tallboy) and Old Style in the beer fridge. I've been known to keep Schlitz ('60s recipe), Strohs, Rolling Rock and the occasional Stella, Newcastle and Guinness in there too. I like to mix up my crisp, (mostly) minimal aftertaste, bubbly water. Craft beer aint got no place in my fridge.

    A kindred spirit!

My favorite cheap beer is an icy cold can of Busch. Out of a cooler. Also a big fan of Moosehead and Stella. The craft beers are too much flavor for my palate and too much alcohol for my brain.

When it comes to wine, however, I am much more discerning. Cheap beer, yes; cheap wine, no.

The only one of these I can recall hearing live is Candyfloss, but it doesn't come around too often.

** edit: I'm adding Muzzle of Bees to my list. It's on my Wilco top ten, and it doesn't get the love from the band that I wish it would.

  6. I finally found a place to stay and booked a room in Williamstown, near Williams College \o/

We'll rent a car in NY but I'm wondering what is better drive everyday or take the shuttle? How's parking and traffic coming in/out?

At SSF 2013, there was a shuttle stop in Williamstown right by the Dunkin' Donuts. I love not having to drive into North Adams!
  7. Nothing beats "An Evening With Wilco" show. When they do those, don't they usually announce it as such?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Yeah, as far as I know. Although that was what they called the show last Ocober in Raleigh, and it turns out there was no opener because there was a wedding at the venue and there just wasn't enough time. It was pretty much a standard show, time-wise.

I know I've said this on this board before, but not seeing the 2010(?) tour where they did the 3- hour shows, the true "Evening With," is one of my biggest regrets!

  8. This was absolutely amazing:

Watched this last night. It was riveting, but for me, ultimately unsatisfying. I can't figure out why the band leader was such a sadistic asshole. He claims it's to find someone like a Charlie Parker, that this kind of talent wouldn't show itself under ordinary circumstances. But his treatment of his students is so abusive that I think this guy has demons that the film never reveals.

  9. IMHO the fact that srmt would feel any need to come on here and apologize for putting together or not putting together these benefits — whenever Jeff is able to do them — is pretty ridiculous. Or tell us about it any sooner than anyone else, for that matter. (Though it is always great to hear from her! xoxo)

More proof that Wilco fans have it pretty damn good.

  10. I read Lena Dunham's book last week. I don't especially get her or even appreciate her television/film work that much, but I'm sort of fascinated nevertheless. After that I re-read a bunch of David Sedaris stuff and loved every word.

  11. I won tickets to my first Wilco show in 1999, so every show seems expensive compared to that.

My first Wilco show was free, too! But I've shelled out a whole lotta clams to see them since then.

At least we can have this exchange! Thankfully, Wilco still tours as much as they do. We're lucky.

  12. I'm hoping that there will be a showing at this year's Solid Sound. If they were really smart, they'd have it on sale in DVD/Blu-ray format at the festival for $15 and sell a thousand of 'em.

Maybe even multiple showings! But it would be kind of weird to spend part of 2015 Solid Sound watching 2013 Solid Sound.

  13. My daughter's friend was just telling me she has to save up $150 to see Taylor Swift. WTF! We used to pay like $15 to see big acts when I first started going to concerts in high school. REM, U2... I have a Billy Idol stub somewhere that says $12 on it. Unfortunately, the concert was in Philadelphia and I didn't have a ride.

Adjusted for inflation, the average ticket price for Wilco seems about right ($43-47). I think I'd pay $80 for Red Rocks, being the iconic venue that it is.

  14. Another possible act that would have been nice was Mac from Superchunk who has his first solo album coming out. But again anything on top of 2 nights of Wilco and a Tweedy performance was icing on an already awesome cake.

That would be so great. I love all things Mac. But I love all things Wilco, too, and that's what SSF is all about!
