  1. UGH!  My best friend passed away last year after his lung cancer spread to his brain.  Once it spread it was too much to overcome.  44 years old.

I feel for you, and I'm sorry for you and anyone else going through this.  This is a terrible disease.

Deepest sympathy on the loss of your best friend. That really, really stinks. We expect to lose our parents at some point. Friends not so much.

I think someone on this board said it best, in reference to Sue's struggles: "cancer is an asshole."

  2. Yesterday morning after dropping the kids off at school - On our local NPR station (KUNR) - played the tail end of the jam from Impossible Germany during their traffic report and morning program guide. Dad Rock at its finest!

I heard that too! On the Jacksonville, Florida station, WJCT.

  3. More Alcholol Content = Less Beer you need for a buzz = less money you spend on beer. = less calories you consume from drinking multiple beers.

Not to split hairs, but it's not that way for me. For one, females metabolize alcohol differently than males do. And the buzz I get off a 7% beer doesn't compare to the buzz off two regularish 4% beers. Plus the higher alcohol brews are headache makers for me.

First world problems, to be sure! Hopefully we'll all have tasty choices at the next Solid Sound. Cheers!

  4. I would like to see them offer a lower alcohol, all day drinking kind of beer.

Finally! An ally in the quest for, as you so aptly put it, an "all day drinking kind of beer." Is (around) 4% alcohol too much to ask? We need a beer for the long haul!

I know it's anathema to the craft beer fans, but year one they had Bud and Bud Light. I'm not ashamed to say that works just fine for me!

  5. I screw up presale every time.  What's the trick? I'm subscribed to wilcoworld, but seem to miss the presale email...

No trick, really. Sign up for an account on Frontgate, which you link to through Wilcoworld Shows tab. At about 9:45, log onto Frontgate and sign in to your account. Then just keep hitting refresh every couple mins til the tix go on sale. And have your credit card handy! I've had pretty consistent luck getting good-- not always great, though-- seats.
  6. There still isn't any Google-able evidence that this is actually happening, but the announcement was made by an employee of the county Parks & Rec dept., which sponsors this event and runs the lovely St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Once the announcement is formally made by Wilco HQ, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see more Florida dates added. A one-off in this neck of the woods seems highly unlikely.

    * I've heard that the wild house party they refer to in that video was at the house of a girl that used to cut my hair. I plied her for details but she said psychedelics were involved and the whole night was quite fuzzy.

  7. Holy shit! Just heard the amazing news that Wilco is returning to St. Augustine to open the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival! Friday night, May 1.

Heart palpitating, limbs trembling, smiling uncontrollably. College deejay that broke the news is spinning "She's a Jar" right now. Wilco fans in FLA rejoice!

  8. Toreador Brass --Tijuana Christmas

Louis Armstrong & Friends Christmas Collection

Ramsey Louis Trio --Sounds of Christmas

    Any Elvis Christmas album

...and a bunch of the ones Winston Legthigh mentioned in first post (Vince Guaraldi, Jimmy Smith, Ella Fitzgerald)

This year I added Oscar Peterson Christmas to my collection and I had a Lionel Hampton vinyl LP in my Amazon cart but I waited (it was $18) and lost it. Loves me some Christmas jazz!

  9. Seriously, people would want an all acoustic show? Why? Good God, that is about the only thing that could make me walk away disappointed. I suppose you're the people who just wanna sit there through the whole show, too?

Naturally I could only swing one show of the residency so I suppose since they've played almost all their songs already this is exactly what's gonna happen tomorrow night. Argh. I'll never understand this fanbase.

To quote Jeff, "you are not alone." For me, the turn-it-up-to-eleven full-on rock Wilco is the best Wilco. The acoustic songs are nice sprinkled in, but at a live show I really want the rockers. Hope you get sum tomorrow!
  10. Not watching yet, but looking forward to the release of Wild. Screenplay by Nick Hornby, which is promising. I hope they include the scene where Cheryl picks up a guy at a party strictly on the basis that he was wearing an early-career long-sleeve Wilco tee shirt. ;)
