  1. I think it's an awfully big assumption to make that Wilco isn't "putting 100 percent into everything". I don't get the impression that anybody in that band is settling for anything less than putting everything they've got into their musical endeavors. Whether or not the end result fits any one person's particular taste, or what Wilco should sound like based on some notion that the earlier albums are the "valid" Wilco sound, is a very subjective thing.

I became a hardcore fan shortly after Sky Blue Sky was released (after finally seeing a live show), and this incarnation of the band is all I know, which gives me a much different point of view than somebody who has been listening from the beginning. I've listened to tons of shows from every period, and have found things to love with every iteration of this band. That being said, I really love what both Nels and Pat bring to Wilco, especially in a live setting. I disagree with the idea that Nels to "too good". I think he's a perfect fit, and represents an evolution in the sound of the band (that I happen to like). To me, Wilco just sounds like a band that has members that have personally and musically matured, and I'm okay with what's been described as the "dad rock" sound (even though I don't find that term very useful). For some people, Wilco's new music sounds less vital, and I'm okay with that opinion too. I used to be a huge Pearl Jam fan in high school, was with them from the earliest days, bought every import I could find, convinced myself that any obscure crappy B-Side (Bee Girl, WTF?) was gold...and then, suddenly after the 4th album, they just lost it for me. My relationship with the band changed, they got older, I got older, etc. It happens. I look forward to Wilco's next album, whatever it may sound like.

yup .. I think that is one thing us newbies have as far as a point of reference ... I think the currnet incarnation of Wilco is the best ... I like all the incarnations though but with Nels and Sansone it just speaks to me ....

  2. 1st Olberman wasnt a Journalist he was a bomb thrower for the Left .. On one hand I hate to see him go because the occasions when I could take the time to stomach him, he was like watching a Train Wreck.. I also hate to see him go because I like free speech and even if I cant stand what a person says, I still think that person should have a soap box to scream from ... he will just find a smaller box is all. The market of ideas and the market of the economy have both spoken and he and his network are not profiting anyone. Good Riddance and Good Day... Day 1 of no Olby!

  3. President Obama's message was spot on. The crowd was raucus and that was disconcerting and distasteful.

I did not watch it intially because I was afraid of a repeat of the Wellstone Funeral. I am not in any remote way a supporter of Obama but his speech was well done and I will give him credit when credit is due. The crowds reaction was boorish at times but there s no way to control peoples actions if they dont get what is acceptable behaviour. Nothing will change about civil discourse in the long term .... the right will behave in ways that the left doesnt agree with and the left will behave in ways that the right wont agree with .and no one will look themselves in the mirror from the President on down to see that we all act in divisive ways

  4. ...and that pretty much proves the point. There's evidently one obscure left-wing nutcase out there who says a lot of stupid shit, plus a few random quotes from less obscure nutcases (you obviously liked the Montel Williams quote so much that you included it twice).

The rhetoric from the right is featured prominently on mainstream outlets (Fox News, etc.). One does not need to search very deeply to find it.

There are morons with violent fantasies on both sides, but the right has let many more of them ascend onto platforms that give them nationwide exposure.

Yup I screwed up and quoted Montel twice and after posting that I left it because I was lazy and I knew someone would jump on it .. predictable .. also predictable was people dismissing the quotes I posted .... Since it doesnt take much effort to find violent rhetoric on Fox news as you posted .. how about some examples? Im not talking about people talking about talking about that the Obama agenda needs to be stopped etc... I am talking violent violent rhetoric ..

But really no ones mind is going to be changed here ..... the Left wont see the nasty rhetoric that they use and the Right wont see it either ....but neither side had anything to to do with this tragedy ... but some on the left thought it was a good thing to attempt to make political hay and that to me says alot

  5. I doubt this very much. Not violent vitriol.

Its really not that difficult to come up with Left Wing Vitriol ...

“So, Michele (Bachman), slit your wrist! Go ahead! I mean, you know, why not? I mean, if you want to — or, you know, do us all a better thing. Move that knife up about two feet. I mean, start right at the collarbone.” – Montel Williams, September 2, 2009.

“He is an enemy of the country, in my opinion. Dick Cheney is an enemy of the country....Lord, take him to the Promised Land, will you? See, I don’t even wish the guy goes to Hell, I just want to get him the hell out of here.” – Ed Schultz, May 11, 2009

“Cheney, by the way, looks very ruddy. I couldn’t get over that. Like, he must have feasted on a Jewish baby, or a Muslim baby. He must have sent his people out to get one and bring it back so he could drink its blood.” – Mike Malloy, October 22, 2009.

“[Representative Michele Bachmann is] a hatemonger. She’s the type of person that would have gladly rounded up the Jews in Germany and shipped them off to death camps....This is an evil bitch from Hell.” – Mike Malloy, October 17, 2008.

Can you believe that this society produced a filthy human being like that? A society that has, uh, in its element, corporate America that determines this pig - this pig is worth 50 million dollars a year; that's 1 million a week! This filthy dehumanized pig is worth that? I get him when the lights are out, he's mine, there's no question about that! None! - Mike Malloy Lib Talker

Murdoch is a Nazi; Murdoch is a Nazi! And everyone that works for him is a potential murderer! Do you not -- do you not get that? Why does anybody in this administration pay any attention whatsoever to anything these people say? They shouldn't be listened to; they should be dragged into the street and pummeled! And I'd be very happy to be the first person to do it. - Mike Malloy Lib Talker

"The Republican Party needs to be executed as quickly as possible." - Mike Malloy

Michelle (Bachman), slit your wrist. Go ahead... or, do us all a better thing Move that knife up about two feet.Start right at the collarbone. - Montel Williams

All very helpful and kind rhetoric

  6. and there is still no evidence he was inspired by what some here consider inflamatory rhetoric. I suspect there never will be any. This is not to say thet there shouldnt be a toning down of rhetoric... but for every piece of right wing vitriol that my liberal friends can point out I can point out a Left Wing piece of vitriol

and I really dont want to get into that game

  7. agreed

Calling this man a Republican or a conservative and blaming it on that would be like saying he did this because he had 'x' color eyes. He was mentally ill; regardless of what his supposed accomplice did or did not do, this kid carried out these acts as a sick individual, and not anything else.

  8. I have commented on this on my Face Book page but it is highly irresponsible to jump to the conclusion that this was the results of Right Wing Political Vitriol ... there is no evidence of that at this point .. it could have easlily been Left Wing Vitriol ... of which there is alot ... read the blogs ... people should stop using this tradgedy to score political points but I digress this killer could have had voices in his head, little green men any number of potential reasons he killed ...my guess he is just another Ted Kazcinski ... a crazy MoFo .....I am a Conservative.. probably not alot of us here on VC and I normally wouldnt voice any political opinion here because I am here for the music and the community
