At Roundhead recording studios, Jeff Tweedy draws a picture for Glenn Kotche who is about to lay down a track on Neil Finn's newest composition.

knowing the wilco song is on this album scares me for what the rest of it will sound like.
Not going to lie, it scares me a little too.

Jeff has written a song for the 7 Worlds Collide project which should be on the studio album. It's called "You never know". It was played at the Monday show (and probably at the others too).
Oh, okay, so it's for 7 Worlds Collide album, not the new wilco album.

I'd love to hear of tappers myself
I know they're taping it all for a DVD which I can't wait to get, but not sure how much of the night I went to they'll include. Either way, the album and DVD should be most excellent. I quite liked the new Wilco song they did last nite.
There was a new wilco song played?

Fake Plastic Trees is my favorite song ever. This would be a great cover to hear.
Neil doing Bodysnatchers too...wow.
Only a snippet and not the best sound quality, but... here it is anyway!

Washington, D.C.: Roxanne: Any word on whether the President-elect's favorite band, Wilco, will perform at any function?
Roxanne Roberts: Haven't heard that---but if they really are his favorite band (haven't heard that, either) then its a good bet they get an invite.

The National is owned by the NorVa and it looks like band are switching off ever tour, like Iron & Wine played The National this spring and then playde the NorVa just recently.
anyway, Wilco has been playing C-ville and they need to come to Richmond the next time around for sure. i'm sick of driving to shows. i'd rather walk. :-)

Wilco playing the NorVa again would be super nice, as I live only 15 mins away!

What is this? Is this a title given to one of the Bridge School tracks?
Well, I just called it that because I didn't know the name.
-
resonant and experimental..........Glen and Nels, would be nice.
-Robert
I agree, that would be nice!
I would like the the sound to have a bit of A Ghost is Born, a dash of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and a whole lot of Summerteeth!
I also love the new song, "Crush the Cities" or whatever it's called, but I just hope the album doesn't sound like that.

Nels talks about the new album. I think we've already seen this, but I decided to post it anyway.

Gonna sleep down in the parlor
And relive my dreams
I'll close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don't pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers, like they did before
I been to Sugar Town, I shook the sugar down
Now I'm trying to get to heaven before they close the door
------------------------------------------
I woke up on the roadside, daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are
Visions of your chestnut mare shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars.
You hurt the ones that I love best and cover up the truth with lies.
One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin' around your eyes,
Blood on your saddle.
and...
I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read
Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.
Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,
I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory
And all your ragin' glory.
-----------------------------------------------
You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone

Hey Everyone Again,
Wow. I really really like the song on the 25th a lot more now that I have listened to the song and have kind of understood the lyrics while reading them.
I picture the song set with the Spanish Conquistadors. Sounds crazy, but the sound and lyrics provoke images of The Fountain.
Although, of course the song can obviously be set in modern times. Anyways, it is quite brilliant. What a hook and the instrumentation is awesome. Can't wait to hear this with the band plugged in.
Hopefully, some more of you out there can shed light on this song's lyrics. I tried my best and it is a bit long and repetitive.

I hate to be negative but those songs are pretty lame in my estimation......They seem flat and uninspired and don't seem to have much of a hook to keep you listening.......I hope the next album has more life to it than the three or four songs I've heard so far........Might they be tired from the road?
Yeah, I find myself in agreement with much of this. The Colbert song is fucking fantastic, but the other four or five really have me worried, since I don't love any of them. If these are a fair indication of the new record, this could be the first Wilco album I actually don't care for. I like the Motown-meets-Mermaid-meets-On and On and On tune, but it's hardly anything to write home about.
Just curious for those who didn't state why, I was just wondering what is so wrong with these new songs? For me, while I don't love all of the new songs, I can say that I do love the "Crush the Cities" song from the second night of the Benefit. I can see so much potential in this song as well and the one from the first night. For the songs being in their early stages, I have more hope in the progress of the album, right now, then I did at the same point in the album making process with 'Sky Blue Sky.' The Colbert song is great! I really did enjoyed it, very fun song. I just hope it's not on the new album.

Did anyone figure out the lyrics for the two new songs? I've been trying to figure some of them out and it's driving me crazy. Can anyone help out?

I'm ridiculously happy.

It's a tie between the alt version of 'Someday Baby" and "Ain't Talkin' from 'Tell Tale Signs!'

Wow and I feel the exact opposite of these two songs! I especially love the second one, to me it already sounds like a treasure of a song. I get the same feeling from this one as when I first heard 'Jesus etc.' Now I am not comparing them lyrically, just my initial feeling to them at first listen. These songs just hit me in certain way (more so the 'Sky Blue Sky' did) that makes me very excited for the new album and what it might offer. Also, the songs are new and so I assume they're still working with them. So, if you think they're lame now, perhaps that might change for you later.

Wilco- AGIB tour- My first Wilco show- front row, right in front of Nels!!!!
Bob Dylan & Elvis Costello- 2007- Row 4- bought 2 tickets to the sold out show the night before off ebay for $75!! I was very lucky!
-
i can see the one from the 25th becoming something special in the studio, cant say too much for the 26th one although ive only listened to it once
I am really enjoying both these songs quite a bit! I'm especially loving the song from the second night- I can't seem to stop playing it! I think it has a very beautiful sound and feel to it. I enjoyed these two more on the first couple listens then I did with "One Wing" and "Sunny Feeling" and "You And I," although, I do like those songs as well! These two songs though make me very excited to hear what's coming next!

The 26th is on Dime now. Will upload the other new one if nobody else does.
