you won't be dissapointed. maybe i am just excited by the newness of it, but my initial impression is that it's by far their best one.

well, the album is out there, and it's a monster. Amazing. the production is great. they deserve to be huge.

the album is featured on stereogum's "heavy rotation" section...i guess they have a copy. lucky bastards. wonder if we'll get their "premature evaluation" soon.

i find it hard to consider "Wilco, the Song" more than a throwaway song, but, who knows, maybe the album version will be interesting. the version i heard on Colbert just sounds like some theme song to a sitcom. not that crazy about Sunny Feeling either. One Wing is great though. those are the only three new songs i've heard.

you're right...Elbow only really broke out with Seldom Seen Kid. i think Doves were nominated for the Mercury Prize a couple of times too

awesome...pretty big tour this time. i hope they achieve some modest level of success here. and perhaps be as big as Elbow in their home country. thanks for posting solace there are promos of the album out there, but no leak just yet.

Pop is a great album, very underrated. I agree with most people that Achtung is the pinnacle of their career, but to dismiss everything after probably means you were not a fan anyway.

i don't frequent this part of the forum unless there is a new album out... can someone confirm the new songs they've played thus far? I've heard One Wing and Wilco Song on youtube. I really like One Wing, but Wilco Song seems like a joke and a little light. Is that a serious contender for the new album?

good post. i see your point. i like the new album, there are some great songs on it, but i just get the feeling that there are always looking to be the "biggest" band in the world, and this attitude is mostly attributed to Bono. he seems to worry too much about competing with those other supposed big (and younger) bands, Coldplay, Killers, Kings of Leon. it hurts the music. They are definitly more adventurous on this album than the past two, but not nearly enough as had been previously reported. maybe they'll come to the point when they'll put out music just for the sake of art, an

the first four songs are some of the best stuff they've ever done. it's just the middle part that drags it down. take out songs 5 (Crazy Tonight), 6 (Boots), and 7 (Stand Up Comedy), and you have a much better album.

no hard feelings. i discover a lot of new bands on this forum. i think i first found out about Andrew Bird from one of your posts... anyway, i just felt bad for the guy. i don't think NLOTH is a masterpiece, but it has some great songs and is respectable for U2 at this late stage in their career.

i don't think he was laughing with you, man, but at you...whatever...you'll find that you can't really be enthusiastic about certain bands on this messageboard. if it's not M. Ward, Bon Iver, Andrew Bird etc., don't bother posting.

Rolling Stone is giving the album five stars...not surprised, since they give all the veterans high ratings. while it's too early to really rank it, there are no bad songs on it, and there are some great ones. it's better than anything REM has done the past decade, or any other band that has been around for more than 20 years. and makes Coldplay sound tiny in comparison.

White As Snow really grew on me...now it's one of my favorites. i also love Unknown Caller, the title track, and Moment of Surrender. the only three i am not really crazy about are Crazy Tonight, Boots, and Stand Up - they seem like the obligatory pop songs to appease the record execs.

This leaked. just had a listen - it's a real grower i think. much better than the last two albums. the first four songs are great.
