in case anyone is interested, you can hear the first track on their website: americanmary.com just click on the "Track 1" box. very good song. looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

i think it's better... that 7 minute track "Armchairs" is amazing. even the 1 minute instrumental is stunning. the dude's a genius. it's not enough that his music is brilliant, his lyrics are extremely clever and touching.
-
he's actually not like that...if you see them in concert, Yorke is animated and a pretty funny guy. not at all depressing or morose. just the songs are serious.
-
so you skip "Side with the Seeds"? That seems to be a favorite around here. i also think it's a great song, especially the guitar solos. "What Light" is definitely my least favorite.

i am probably in the minority, but i still think AGIB is Wilco's best album and will be hard to top. there are so many great moments on it - the guitar solo in ALTWYS, the crescendo in Muzzle of Bees, the breakdown in Spiders, etc... but i am not at all dissapponited with SBS....it's currently right behind YHF for me and tied with ST... slowly inching up though. right now, it lacks those "wow" moments that i experience with AGIB, but i think it will age well. i love You are My Face - that stands up with anything in their catalogue, and Side with the Seeds is great too. my initial im

sorry for the late request... i listened to the stream from the website on saturday, but would really appreciate a good quality copy. thanks very much in advance.

Will Wilco ever make it on the cover of Rolling Stone?
Azzurri replied to jdmel's topic in Just A Fan
SBS should get at least a 4 star review...and be the lead feature in the review section. i don't know about the cover - - they seem to go with people with broader mainstream appeal. do you think SBS will go platinum? i see a couple of songs that could be hits - either way, hate it here, -
it's my absolute least favorite track on the album, but it's funny how it always ends up being stuck in my head.

i agree. some songs have that edge though....Side with the Seeds has some kick ass guitar parts. and i love You are My Face. it's right up there with their best i think.

Any lyrics on the new album in particular stand out to you?
Azzurri replied to magusmachine's topic in Just A Fan
i am not too crazy about the lyrics to Hate it Here and What Light...a little too corny for my taste. You are My Face is probably the best lyrically -
my premature opinion - Your Are My Face is superior to the other two songs...
-
the epic guitar solos on Built to Spill's You In Reverse are pretty great too...

An audience with Maximo Park's Paul Smith
Azzurri replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
i like them too....the new single is decent, but i hope it's not representative of the whole album. the song sounds like much of the first album. what's cool about this band is the song structures and lyrics. -
i would say that Neon Bible is much more consistent than Funeral - in that almost all of the songs are really good (with the probably exception of the title track, which is decent but a little underwhelming). and a bonus for me is that the chick doesn't sing lead on any of the songs (except for half of one).

"What Light" is a little bit corny....it's like some cheesy campfire singalong

such a beautiful song

i've heard the following songs so far from Neon Bible: "Intervention," "Black Wave...", "Ocean of Noise," "Black Mirror" and "Keep the Car Running." i am not sure how much different "No Cars Go" is from the version that appeared on the EP. i don't know, maybe it's because its the excitement of hearing something new or because i am getting a little tired of the old songs, but these songs are pretty great and can stand on their own without comparison to Funeral. probably less accessible than the songs you mentioned, and maybe a bit darker in tone, but for me that's a good thing. i c

i haven't watched previous seasons, but just saw the 4 hour premiere on DVD. it's got an intriguing premise, and some intesting twists plotwise, but some of it just cheesy, especially the dialogue. what bugs me the most is that the terrorists speak in english, with stupid accents, which detracts from authenticity for me. it doesn't have a very cinematic feel to it (maybe because it's a tv show, duh) and Jack Bauer's character is kind of cartoonish and action figure like sometimes. overall, it's probably better than 95% of shows on tv right now, but still did not live up to the hype.

i like this song a lot too.... this is shaping up to be a great album. they are such a passionate, thoughtful band, as evidenced by these lyrics. and every song always seems so uplifting, no matter how dark the subject matter. tried to get tickets to the NYC shows today. 5 shows sold out. unbelievable

i read an excerpt, which was really good. The guy can write. i will pick it up at some point.

has anyone seen the Hong Kong movie upon which this is based, Infernal Affairs? That was cool. The actor who plays the Leo DiCaprio role is awesome. The Departed is not a strict interpretation, as the ending was different. It was a great remake though. Alec Baldwin and Mark Whalberg had all the best lines, really hilarious. And Leo was excellent as well. He came a long way from Titanic, thankfully (one of the worst movies i've ever seen).
