love or hate him, this is pretty funny: ryan-adams.com

"The mummied dead everywhere. The flesh cloven along the bones, the ligaments dried to tug and taut as wires. Shriveled and drawn like latterday bogfolk, their faces of boiled sheeting, the yellowed palings of their teeth. They were discarded to a man like pilgrims of some common order for all their shoes were long stolen.

i just hope there is more to the record musically. maybe a little more edge to it. "O" was good but the tortured voice and minimalist sound gets a little irritating sometimes. admirable for its passion and intense emotion, but he sounds like he's dying in some of those songs.
-
yeah, you kind of feel sorry for the croaky old man...
-
the songs are suprisingly pretty good. his voice is better than Julian's!
-
i only heard the Lost Riots CD, and, while good in parts, it is ruined by the singer's voice. he just doesn't have the charisma or power to match the ambitiousness of the music. although Black Dollar Bills is a tremendous song.

i would love to see them live. they were in the States a couple of years ago, but i didn't even know about them at the time.
-
check out the first album, Sunset Studies, which is also excellent. i have yet to hear the newest one though; hard to get a hold of their albums here in the US, except for Strange Bird i don't think there is a better lyric writer around than the lead singer of this band. the song compositions are complex and you hear something new each time

geez, i guess i actually did start a kelly clarkson thread.... i haven't heard any of her music beside since you've been gone, which is not bad i suppose as far as mainstream music is concerned.
-
yes, the viachicago music review board is that powerful and influential. i don't even like Pete Yorn anymore. and just an hour ago, i really like his music.
-
then i'll think twice about starting a "Kelly Clarkson is awesome" thread...

I don't care really...it's just that there are a core group of artists on this board that people find untouchable and beyond comment, but when someone mentions an artist or group that may not fit into a certain mold, the insults start rolling in... i've learned about a lot of new artists on this board, and people seem to have a vast knowledge of music not heard in the mainstream, but sometimes the snobbery is a little annoying.

well thank you for making me see the light. i will now put on my Transfiguration of Vincent cd on and listen to what all the right people listen to.
-
it's my opinion dude. you don't have to act like your the chief arbiter of what is and what is not good music. you like m. ward's voice, but i don't. does that make me wrong?
-
i really like his albums. never seen him live, but will this friday. he may be boring, i don't know, but his recorded stuff is cool. i think his voice is great actually. i like it lot better than Sufjan or m. ward, who has a weird nat king cole like sound to it. i just cringe when i hear sufjan's precious wimpy voice.
-
it was hilarious. stay until the end because there are outtakes that are just as funny. best comedy i've seen in a while.

Johnny Marr now full time member of Modest Mouse

that's very interesting, but it seems like a weird pairing for some reason... what's next? morrissey becomes lead singer of Van Halen? -
http://sonybmg.com/musicbox/video/peteyorn/ this is a link to some pete yorn videos. the first song, "The Man," is a song off of his new album coming out at the end of the month entitled Nightcrawler. the dixie chick Natalie sings backing vocals on it. I think it's a really good song. it has a certain twang to it, which is different than most of his stuff. i am looking forward to the album. I loved his first album, musicforthemorningafter, and is second, Day I Forgot, is excellent as well. he got a lot of press of the first one, but i think he's pretty underrated. ch

i just can't get into sufjan...while i can see how many people find him talented, i find his voice incredibly annoying. it's just too wimpy and precious sounding. probably a superficial criticism, but that's how i feel...

great band - i have the last two albums, but not the new one. does it compare favorably to the previous albums? sort of like the Radiohead of Australia - not in terms of style, just because they are challenging and write very complex songs.

James Dean Bradfield (Manics) Interview
Azzurri replied to Albert Tatlock's topic in Someone Else's Song
Everything Must Go is my favorite Manics album, although i thought Lifeblood was pretty decent. it's not as bad as i thought it would be, considering the bad reviews it got. I also like "This is My Truth..." and everybody seems to hate that one. -
in watching the video again, it seems as though they were playing for an offsides trap...that is the only explanation i can give.
-
wow, that's incredible. i had never noticed that...what the hell was he doing?

i am sure you can compile a "nice" one for mr. untouchable, Zidane, as well... But poor Zidane, Materrazi called him a bad, bad word, and hurt his feelings so deeply that he had to crush his sternum with his dome... by the end of this mess, Zidane will unjustly be viewed as a hero who defended his honor. it's so easy to paint someone a villain, and Materazzi will surely be turned into one. It's in FIFA and the soccer world's best interest to restore Zidane's reputation to that of "God" so Materrazi will be branded a racist who got what he deserved. i don't give a fuck what Materraz
