  1. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds are a band you know!! This is a shocking omission, even worse than leaving Pixies off the poll for American bands. Who's going to start the Best British band poll?
  2. I can't understand how this poll can have Nirvana and Pavement but not The Pixies or Husker Du, much as I love Pavement and a good few Nirvana songs. In terms of quality of output, and influence on bands that came after they are just as important as The Replacements if you ask me.
  3. Just downloaded Let It Beard. Pretty good so far, 6 songs in...
  4. Haven't heard Boston Spaceships stuff, a Pollard offshoot I guess? And The Fall have only released 29 studio albums - the total output inc live and comps etc must be over 100.
  5. Yep, excellent group and one of my favourites. But imo, despite the brilliance of GBV at times, the Fall have hit the back of the net much, much more. And over a longer period
  6. Despite being a massive Fall fan I had never bothered with their messageboard until recently, which is where I found the poll that I posted. I was astonished to see that there were 1,266,561 posts made, and there were over 4,500 registered members. For a cult band that is phenominal. They have recently released their 29th studio album, has any other group or artist been so prolific? They may not have sold as many records as The Beatles but no other band has changed my life the way they have. I have bought every one of those 29 albums, I guess I'm a Fall lifer!!
  7. http://invisionfree....?showtopic=1896 They seem to think so, but they're biased. As am I, The Fall were my favourite group all through the 80's and 90's, and even in the 00's The Unutterable and The Real New Fall LP were excellent albums. The new one, Ersatz GB is a stonker too! Who else can still turn out good albums in their 34th year?
  8. Eno's theory is just masochistic in my opinion. Hopefully he doesn't restrict it to the shite he is producing these days, imagine having a small collection with valuable space taken up with records made by Coldplay, U2 and James!!
  9. Yeah Mike I would go with Remain In Light. Something just struck me too. I couldn't exist on 30 records without any reggae, especially 70's reggae. I would need at least 5 albums from that era. Plus, there is no Clash, PIL,Wire, Gang of 4, New Order, Echo and The Bunnymen etc (restricting it to bands making music within the era Robert highlighted), - thats just wrong.
  10. Came across this article by Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens http://www.themonthly.com.au/spin-it-30- albums-robert-forster-4150 I don't get it. There have been hundreds of truly great albums released, so this woman with 25 records only has a small percentage of these great albums. I'm probably missing the point, but its a good soundbite I suppose. Similar to Eno's thoughts about only having a dozen records in your collection, and if you want to add a new album you must get rid of one of the dozen you already have. Still probably missing the point , why is Robert advocating choosing infer

  12. 2nd best Double Album of the last 20 years apparently. http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/10/10-best-double-albums-in-the-past-twenty-years.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  13. The Specials opening for The Clash Joy Division opening for The Buzzcocks Suicide opening for The Clash The Skids opening for The Stranglers Mikey Dread opening for The Clash The Cramps opening for The Police Comsat Angels opening for The Sound Teenage Fanclub opening for REM Nearly all of these gigs in Glasgow or Edinburgh late 70s/early 80s In The case of Joy Division, my mate and I only went to see them and we only stayed for about 3 Buzzcocks songs before leaving. The Cramps were a happy accident, somebody at work talked me in to going along to The Polce gig with him. I had heard of The
  14. So, Crow, is it ST or BT that is top tier or middle tier? The reason I ask is because you have the following: YHF, AGiB, BT, TWL BT AM, SBS, W(TA). I'd be interested to know which is which, and because you are an upstanding kind of guy I know you won't do that really sneaky, underhand, and downright annoying thing of just fixing your mistake without acknowledging my post, as if you had it correct all along and therefore making my post look incomprehensible to people reading it.There's nothing worse than that is there!!
  15. After three weeks of intense re-appraisal I am going to revise my list slightly. 1. YHF 2. AGIB 3. BT 4. Summerteeth 5.TWL 6.SBS 7.AM 8.WTA

  17. Are some of you people just being wilfully obtuse? Or do you and others seriously think that over the last 40 plus years I havent heard nearly every Beatles song countless times DESPITE not hearing an album? They were UNAVOIDABLE!! Thank you, thank you , thank you.
  18. Of course i do. And by the way, do you realise how hard it is to type without any arms and fingers.
  19. I didn't realise that " railing against The Beatles just because you can" was outlawed. Do you like every band, have you never slagged off any bands on here, or amongst friends? Or is it just the sainted Beatles that are sacrosanct? Please point out to me where myself and the other two posters showed "some perverse pleasure" in pointing out we hadn't seen a few films. What language did we use to display this emotion? Nope, I didn't hang out with the cool crowd obviously :-)
  20. At last somebody almost gets it. its called having an opinion and not running with the herd . not because its cool to hate popular acts, (if that was the case i wouldn't like the smiths, radiohead, bowie and dylan amongst others), but because you just really dont like it. Are some people on here really so dumb to think you can't form an opinion on The Beatles without having heard an album? I grew up in 60/70's Britain, they were freaking EVERYWHERE!!
  21. good golly gosh and heavens above, for somebody with literally squillions of posts (where do get the time, i literally only have seconds a day to pop in to forums like this ?), you really shouldn't get upset over this sort of thing.
  22. Neither have I, Or Star Trek for that matter. Or Rocky, or Harry Potter, or Lord of The Rings.
  23. Excellent piece from Simon Reynolds, http://blissout.blog...n-never_11.html I can empathise with this given that I have been literally hung drawn and quartered in another corner of this forum for the heinous ctime of never hearing a single Beatles album. So whats your "guiltless non pleasure"? ps, for those of you not aware of Simon Reynolds, he is a well respected UK music journalist now based in the US who wrote for Melody Maker and Uncut amongst others. http://en.wikipedia..../Simon_Reynolds He has also written several books on music. http://www.amazon.co...eynolds&x=0&y
  24. I was always under the impression it was just a song about being on the road, and could apply to any touring musician
