    Support same-sex marriage
    Published: March 23, 2013

I was raised in Belleville and still happily reside in Illinois. Over the last few decades, I've had the good fortune as a member of the band Wilco to play music in every state in the union and in countless other countries. In my travels, I've witnessed firsthand that gay and lesbian couples want to marry for the same reasons all of us do -- to share a lifetime of commitment. I feel very strongly that everyone should be able to marry the person he or she loves and enjoy the dignity and respect that comes with that commitment.

By excluding same-sex couples from marriage, our state saddles them, their children and itself with second-class status. That is wrong, and it hurts Illinois families and businesses.

Nine other states have already extended the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples. I work and have friends in all those states, and I can say assuredly that it's time for Illinois to join them. Waiting and sending the signal that we're not open to and supportive of that community is a big mistake. The time is now.

I hope you'll join me in calling on the Illinois General Assembly to give same-sex couples the freedom to marry by supporting SB 10.

R.E.M.'S GREEN REVOLUTION: 25TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION OF THE BAND'S MAJOR-LABEL BREAKTHROUGH OUT MAY 14TH ON RHINO

    PRESS RELEASE:

25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Of The Band’s Major-Label Breakthrough Includes Original Album Remastered And Live Disc Spotlighting The Penultimate Show Of 1989 World Tour; Available May 14 From Rhin

Thank you for the into, it's always nice to know what R.E.M. are up to, one song I particularly recall from Green is Hairshirt, I think it-s beautiful, You are the Everything is also very good, Turn You Inside Out is a song very reminiscent of Discoverer. A good CD but I rank Accelerate even higher than Green.

  3. Roses Bloom Again?

Thanks, that's the name of the song. Chelsea Walls comes up with the search, I had forgotten about this, now I just wonder if the Mermaid Avenue version is the same as the one included in the soundtrack?

I'd think not, since the Bragg/Wilco tunes are Woody Guthrie tunes. And "When the Roses Bloom Again" is an A.P. Carter tune.

So, it's a song performed by Jeff Tweedy but not written by him, now I get it, thsnks for clarifying this.

  4. Not bad, although I preferred Tromso Kaptein, I think it's the better and rockier album, but not bad.

Biggest omission from the album is "There goes the ice", my only complaint as now I must find that Record Store Day EP which is said to contain the song, overall not other complaints. :) I just don't see the logic of leaving the song out of the record since it fits within the message and the spirit of Love from London, would have made a great single. End of Times is ok.

  5. just saw that the support for the Boston show is The Peter Buck.

It’s probably been a while since you heard your favorite Grant Green or Wes Montgomery licks played on a Fender Jazzmaster. But, as writer and musician Derek See uncovers in an upcoming Fretboard Journal #28 article, over the decades Fender’s poorly named instrument has found followers in the worlds of punk, indie and improv music. In his piece, See explains why the likes of Tom Verlaine, Elvis Costello, J. Mascis, Thurston Moore and Wilco’s Nels Cline have all embraced the Jazzmaster. In conjunction with that essay, we asked Cline to do this quick video demonstration showcasing why he loves this model so much.

  7. I realise I'm in the minority here, but I don't like much of Radiohead's electronic stuff. The Bends with its acoustic guitars is fantastic, it's probably the only Radiohead album that I want to listen to from time to time. Which brings me to Atoms, I understand it's mostly an electronic affair so that has prevented me from giving it a listen, I suppose it's unfair, I should at least give it a couple of listens and see if the music makes any impact on me, but already I was disappointed with the King of Limbs which I bought, it was only a series of computerised bits. Despite all of this I'm going to listen to the new Atoms and give it an opportunity.
