  1. And Mo probably isn't the best closer ever, because he 90% of the time he's throwing one inning a game. Guys like Eckersley and the closers of the 80's routinely went multiple innings to pick up saves.

BUT THEY BEAT THE EVIL EMPIRE!!!11

He gets plenty of 4,5, and 6 outs saves. You're just trying to be oppositional, right?

  2. I wouldnt even try to make an argument like this, but I do think its interesting that in all the discussions about how great Mariano Rivera is, folks tend to forget that he has also blown some pretty enormous games -- like Game 7 of the WS against Arizona and game 5 (?) against the Indians on a homer a number of years ago to lose a series (did Manny hit that?). I think he also blew a game against the Sox a couple of years ago when the sox made their comeback from down 3-0. Wasn't he pitching when Dave Roberts stole second and then scored?

The Sox have definitely got to him a few times. A dribbler beat him in the DBacks series. The Sandy Alomar Jr. homer was the only other hiccup (that game hurt).

10 EARNED RUNS over 72 postseason games (111 innings) !!!!

Without him, the Yankees only win 1 (maybe 2) of the 4 they won.

  3. Since I know we're not gonna hear "Gun," as has been repeatedly requested, I'll settle for a new song that's just as good. I'm not sure that's gonna happen, but that's what I'd like to hear.

Lyrics to What Light + riff to Let's Fight + solo in Impossible Germany = the perfect song :D

  4. Tapers?

I saw one (maybe two, not sure if that guy just switched spots).

Not much more to add, just that it was well worth the trip from Jersey. My 8th time seeing this line-up, and they simply get better and better each time. Far, Far Away was the perfect closer :music . I had a bit of an out of body experience during that one (and I was stone-cold sober).

Kudos to Paul for accepting Jeff's request to hop on stage. You definitely deserve it :thumbup . Thanks again for all your great reviews.

Nice pics Viatroy. I must have been right next to you. I think I may have held your spot one time, but I didn't do a very good job. Hope you're feeling better.

Despite the heat, definitely one of my top show experiences ever. Great venue, great people, great vibes all around.

    Thanks again Wilco :worship .

    Oh yeah, Go Yankees !!!!

  5. i think you're on the Wilco forums, not the Paul Simon forums. check your url. and check who you call the greatest of all time.

The kid can't have an opinion?

As you should be able to see, not just Wilco shows are reported on here.

looks like you didn't need me backing you up...nice comeback....zing!!!

  6. I haven't used the "cherry" metaphor since high school (long, long ago), but isn't it "pop a cherry" or something like that? I'm not sure a virgin gets her cherry "broken", though I could be wrong since, well, as I said, long, long ago....

I'll respond to the substance of this thread later this evening, after I down a few (not cherries!!).

    ;)

    Are you really a professor?

  7. I need to throw this in, too: How in all that is sacred do White Sox fans put up with the utter inanity that is Hawk Harrelson and his co-boob? These two are beyond being homers.

They consistently bash the officiating when "they" don't get a call, even so far as to bitch about separate strike zones and arguing the validity of balls/strikes.

I had forgotten how much these guys blow at calling games. Not to mention the juvenile "he gone" and "you can put it on the boarrrrrrd....YES!" crap.

I was fortunate to get the NESN feed on Friday and Fox pretty much takes care of making sure I don't get to watch the Red Sox on Saturdays.

Seriously, do White Sox fans turn the volume off for each game?

    Always looking for new members.

  8. Couldn't agree more about the U2 monopoly on airtime. A good friend of mine said it best: "Bono, come down off your cross." I suppose now I shall say, "Bono, stay on your cross if you want, but stop interrupting my football with more of your pretentious, over-the-top songs."

I have to disagree with the outplayed comment, unless you mean fouls count as outplaying a team. France committed 24 fouls, gave up the only free kick of the game, and received 3 Yellow Cards and 1 Red Card. Also, Italy maintained possession for 55% of the game. Add to that the botched offsides call against Toni, and I think you'll see that France didn't outplay Italy.

I was pulling for Italy and they deserved the victory, but some of your comments are ludicrous.

Toni was clearly offsides, I don't what Balboa was talking about. And Italy did NOTHING offensively for the last 60 minutes of the match. They were hanging on for dear life in OT, while France was applying all the pressure.

  9. Allow more subs or something. This overtime was a snooze fest. Italy's whole team's just about dead. And of course, pks to decide it. By this point I don't even care who wins.

Zidane's headbutt was the most exciting play of the match.

edit: Crossbar wins the Cup !!!

  10. The difference between the two league right now is as stark as I can ever remember. I don't care how good the Mets are playing, I'd still take at least 5 times in the AL over the best in the NL.

Oh, and Jeter's an overrated captain.

  11. You're right. Only so many 1B/DH should make the squad. Which is why Paul Konerko should have been passed over for Hafner. Hafner and Thome are the best hitters in the AL and it isn't even really close. Hafner is by far the biggest snub of the year.

I'd like to hear a good reason why Pierzynski is more deserving than, say, Victor Martinez also.

    Agree with the first part.

For the second part, how bout cuz I could steal off of Victor. Yankees were 6 for 6 last night.

    Actually, I'd still take Victor.

  12. The webcast was awesome!!!

Only 6 AGIB tracks, which is a pleasant change. I love AGIB, but a little variety is nice.

Walken is soooo much better than the early versions.

Every new Spiders I hear is a little bit better than the last one.

Was gonna try and take the summer off, but I'm gonna have to make the trek from Jersey to Mass. Damn you, Tweedy!!!
