  1. I believe that's in open Bb (Tweedy calls it open C in the commentary, but it's open C tuned down a whole step). The chords are everywhere if you want to play it in standard tuning. I transcribed a bit of the open Bb before I got hopelessly sidetracked or people got massively uninterested (who is going to tune their guitar down to open Bb for 1 song?). Still, you can find the transcription somewhere here.

How do you tune to open Bb?

  2. What songs are you referring to as "rocking?" I'll give you the second half of "Walken," but none of the others that I've heard are anywhere near "rocking."

I guess I meant more "Roll" than "rock", i.e. Walken and Is That The Thanks I Get.

  3. Anyone catch The Black Crowes set?

Yeah. They rocked, but seeing as I didn't know any of the songs, I couldn't get too much into it. Plus I was just beat from 2 days of standing in the hot sun and just seeing wilco, so I couldn't bear to go down in the crowd. But it was a good set.

  4. He said "it was like Dante's" there.

Great performance. Jeff was in a really great mood. I loved all of the rock star moves he's doing. It's so great.

Although the Flaming Lips yesterday stole the whole damn thing. Man, that was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. being in the middle of that huge crowd of people singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" was great.

    Hell of a festival though.

  5. All I can see is black and white

And white and pink with blades of blue

That lay between the words I think on a page

I was meaning to send to

You I couldn't tell if it'd bring my heart

The way I wanted when I started

    Writing this letter to you

But if I could you know I would

Just hold your hand and you'd understand

I'm the man who loves you

All I can be is a busy sea

Of spinning wheels and hands that feel for

Stones to throw and feet that run but

    Come back home

    It made no difference

Ever known, it made no difference

    Ever known to me

But if I could you know I would

Just hold your hand and you'd understand

I'm the man who loves you

  6. Just remember bobbob....don't drink to excess when you finally CAN drink. And if you do, do it in private..... :beer

There isn't anything wrong with getting loaded occasionally, but most of the time it turns out rather badly... :barf

I can drink, and I choose not to. It's not hard at all to get drinks, but it's not my thing.

  7. You need to learn to respect.

It's an internet forum. If I saw Louie in real life, i would give him nothing but the utmost respect. If you thought I was a 25 year old, it wouldn't make a difference, so whats the point?

  8. Dude I KNOW people are going to drink at bars and at shows and I have said repeatedly that I don't expect silence at shows, in fact silence would be creepy too. (there are times I find the OTS shows creepy for that reason.) There is a pretty fine, but at the same time obvious, line between respectfully interacting with a performer and hassling the living shit out of them. Hell I yell requests too and make comments to Jeff on the stage between songs, cheer generally when appropriate, etc., but I don't scream over and over and over and when he starts playing I shut the fuck up.

I know I am an old fart about this, but the fact remains, we get precious few opportunties to see Jeff in a club like the Abbey anymore and he clearly felt like things were out of control. Jeff clearly stated that he feels like people are coming to shows not for the music necessarily, but for the novelty. While that isn't super harsh, it is fairly damning none the less. No one expects a silent show. But I do think that Jeff does deserve some respect.

Fair enough, but fuck, give it a rest. It seems like every single thing you post nowadays has at least one reference to that show. We get it.

  9. There were few VCers at this NW suburban show. Needless to say it was fantastic, with Jeff playing with the Wilco Ensemble from the Old Town School and frankly he couldn't have been happier. I figure it is up to someone else to start this post, but seeing him in front of a reasonable audience and seeing him play with people who's major love is music (rather than alcohol and talking) was overwhelming.

Dude, I know this thread isn't the place for it, but can you drop the "high and mighty" bit? Seriously, we get it you don't like people drinking at a concert. Well, guess what? It's going to happen. I don't know how it was in the good old days, but I would be disapointed if a crowd was completely silent during a show. I'd bet 99% of people who go to Wilco and Tweedy shows are there for the music, but they are also there for the atmosphere. If I just wanted to hear the songs, I'd listen to the cd's. I go to shows so I can experience the music with other people and interact with the artist.

    Rant over. Sorry.

  10. I have yet to find a chinese apple tab that sounds decent. I can manage to do the verses in Drop D tuning, but I'm really lost on the bridge (am I waiting for/the uncovering...). Any help? I've seen the other chinese apple one posted, and it really doesn't work. Thanks!

    Can you post said verse?

  11. His father was a drinker

And his mother cried in bed

    Folding John Wayne's T-shirts

When the swingset hit his head

    The neighbors they adored him

For his humor and his conversation

    Look underneath the house there

    Find the few living things

Rotting fast in their sleep of the dead

    Twenty-seven people, even more

They were boys with their cars, summer jobs

    Oh my God

    Are you one of them?

He dressed up like a clown for them

With his face paint white and red

    And on his best behavior

In a dark room on the bed he kissed them all

    He'd kill ten thousand people

With a sleight of his hand

Running far, running fast to the dead

He took of all their clothes for them

He put a cloth on their lips

    Quiet hands, quiet kiss

    On the mouth

    And in my best behavior

I am really just like him

    Look beneath the floorboards

For the secrets I have hid
