  1. Vampire Weekend - Blue CD-R

I had Oxford Comma for a while and was gonna hold off on full length til the official one leaked, but that song is too infectious and made me seek out Blue CD-R.

So yeah, good album and I dig the Massachusetts references all over the place. Are these guys from here?

  2. Biggest Surprises

Radiohead - In Rainbows: I remember thinking I wouldn't hear new Radiohead until 2008. Then I was looking around online and started screaming "10 DAYS! 10 DAYS! 10 DAYS!". My roommate is a huge Radiohead fan and was in the other room, but immediately knew. Just a great surprise.

Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond: Like Solace said, it's like they never left. This seriously stands up to Bug and You're Living All Over Me. J sounds fantastic and his solos are as good as ever.

Deer Tick - War Elephant: 21 year old dude from Providence (holla) puts out debut full length and it kills. I think this guy is gonna blow up. Everyone on here should definitely check this out: alt-country with really strong songwriting and a unique voice.

Jay-Z - American Gangster: Announced out of nowhere and stands up with the best of his albums. Although he has always been hot and cold, after Kingdom Come it seemed like Hov had maybe lost the touch, but now that he is back to talking about hustlin instead of being a CEO, it's all good. This has some of his best songs, Roc Boys, American Gangster, Ignorant Shit, Say Hello, Fallin'...he's on top of his game and it's great to know Jigga hasn't lost it.

Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha: Initially put off by this, but now I think it's a better overall album than Eggs (though it lacks the big highlights of Fake Palindromes and A Nervous Tic)

    Biggest Disappointments

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky: Only two classic songs (You Are My Face and IG); this just doesn't stand up to what Jeff is capable of for me. I couldn't connect with it.

Voxtrot - Some good songs, but nothing touches Mothers or Raised by Wolves

Arcade Fire - I don't know why I remain so let down by Neon Bible. Maybe it was just overhyped for me. I loved Funeral but just can't connect to this in the same way.

Bright Eyes, The Shins, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - All ok albums, but just big letdowns after the previous releases.

  3. Yeah the bookend idea didn't really word. All In It comes off as a massive intro and then it kicks into Lights Out, but We Close Our Eyes is just begging me to put on something else rather than wait for the redundant outro.

    Great album though.

  4. Bangers & Mash came out really well.

I liked the live version of Up on the Ladder better when it was spazzier.

Like Videotape, they didn't record Four Minute Warning the way I would have liked. I liked it when it featured big piano chords and that anthemic feel.

I like the strings in Down is the New Up and Last Flowers is pretty touching.

Overall, not bad for an EP.

  6. Handing out the pill to girls who's bodies aren't ready for the hormones that the pill provide could be dangerous. Is the pill even approved by the FDA for girls under age 18?

Plus, who is going to tell the gir'ls doctors that they are on the pill, surely not the parents because they probably don't even know. If the girl is too afraid to talk to her parents about sex in the first place, sure as hell she's going to hide the fact that she's on the pill from her doctor and from her parents. So the next time the girl is on antibiotic, is she going to be aware that the pill won't be effective? Could she be prescribed another drug that might have adverse side effects because this girl is on the pill?

What about STDs? The pill is 0% effective in preventing STDs.

The girls have to go to a physician or nurse practitioner to get the pills, so I assume their family doctor will know what they are on. And yes, birth control pills are FDA approved for under 18.
