  1. Anyone in boston with sunday night free - i highly recomend coming to TTs to the US debut of Canada's the wooden sky.

yes, full disclosure - my band is on the bill - but its not about getting people out for us - the wooden sky disc has become my favorite record in a year since someone here at VC turned me onto them a year or so ago. just fantastic rural folk and rock...

of course we are psyched and honored to be on the bill with them - but if you are in town i highly recomend trying to make it out to TTs sunday to check them out - they will definitely be getting bigger and this is your chance to see them in a nice low key environment.

    the bill includes

    9pm Preacher Roe

    940pm The Rationales

    1030pm The Wooden Sky

    1130pm Trucker Mouth

    $8, 830, 18+

    Hope to see you out!

  2. I have no idea the real story - but - reading a bit between the lines into what billy said about "When I was in the studio, they carried on with Jeff. When Jeff wasn't there, they worked with me." maybe this is where the split in opinions about how much stuff there is comes from - maybe ALL of what Jeff worked on is out there - and maybe there was more stuff that was put on tape with the rest of wilco backing billy, that jeff/wilco never considered anything other than demo's or rejected material. just a guess. or it could be that billy's full of shit man.

  3. duuude. forget all that. just take da T to quincy and have ah beeeeeah.

no seriously. welcome to town - you've got enough good rec's there to start you on your way. lemme know if i can help in any way!

though in current clubland - i'd correct that the paradise is 90% jam bands and lite-rock nationals now, and the middle east down is emo-screamo touring acts most of the time- stick with TTs, the lizard lounge, toad and church - and scan the others for touring acts that you want to catch!

  4. Its actually part of the DEMO funtion on the mellotron. A mellotron has a bunch of different sounds and all are run by tapes. Magazine is full of 'tron strings and voices. and like many keyboards the tron has canned tapes that work as demo features for the instrument.

I made a major fool of myself when I discovered this while overdubbing with a real mellotron at Q division on our new EP when we put the key in (you need a key!) and fired it up it played that intro and i started saying "MAGAZINE! MAGAZINE!" to which our non wilco obsessed engineer replied... "no. mellotron. mellotron."

  5. >I've never heard of a rock act playing at Tanglewood. Wow.

I saw the Moody Blues there in about 1982 or so. I'll leave it up to you if they're categorized as a "rock act."

not 'rock' per se but james taylor plays every year - lyle lovett has done a few shows there. prairie home broadcasts at least 1 show every summer with whatever hip musical guests are on that week so there's some 'popish rockish' stuff going on regularly for the last 10 years or so - but yes - to agree with your bigger point - i don't know of a headline 'rock' band show such as this anytime in recent memory! its going to be magnificent. as important as it is to most of us to get close to the band - this may be the one venue where being way back on the lawn is a distinct advantage among the fireflies, mountain & valley views and candlelight! woot!

  6. No worries - it went great- it actually sold out for our set - most crazy experience ever - we're one of those bands used to playing for 30 people on a tuesday - to all of a sudden have 110+ people really into our set was an amazing experience! thanks for all the well wishes - i'm on cloud 9 today - plus the rudds rocked and joyce and chick were not only fantastic - but they were super nice people - chris from anastasia screamed was out to see them - and they were all so cool and greatful to be playing again - just an amazing experience- joyce actually wrote a book about their story - for anyone who was a scarce fan its well worth checking out -

    thanks again@!

  7. This saturday - downstairs at the Lizard Lounge - my band The Rationales playing with the Rudds and Scarce. Its going to be a great night based just on the other two bands - and we'll do our best to live up to the bill! feel free to drop in if you're in the area - the lizard is a cool hang.

    8pm, $8 - free parking out back!

  8. was one of my favorites on AM at the time - i love the feel and the sparse sound and the vibe it creates. i realize that where he's gone lyrically and musically in the intervening years that a three chord song with those lyrics mustn't feel like his best work - but its simple - it works.

  9. do they have to be house hold name bands?

    if not - more ma:

still currently working and local and great!

    the figgs (partial)

    the rudds

    the gentlemen

    the real kids

    the pills

    the shods

halleluja the hills (led by former VCer Ryan Walsh)

and of course - the rationales!! ;)

there's more to the crop of 90s stuff:

    letters to cleo

    juliana hatfield

    jen trynin

folk stuff - catie curtis, patty larkin, etc.

gillian welch started playing around town with david rawlings while here at berkley

(and all the other bosstones, dropkick, godsmack, r. zombie & shit like that)
